Self-portraits:pop art styleWeek 1 and 2

Learning IntentionWe are learning to create a self-portrait in a Pop Art style while expressing our personality through the use of shapes and colours.

Success criteriaI am able to create a self-portrait by using Andy Warhol’s pop art style artwork as inspiration.

Materials

● A4/A3 blank paper

● Greylead

● Coloured pencils

● Crayons

● Black texta

Andy warholAndy Warhol was famous for his Pop Art style artworks. This is one of a series of self-portraits the artist made in 1986 using a photograph of himself wearing a wig. In this artwork Andy Warhol used a fluorescent camouflage pattern and a dark background to help focus attention on the artist’s face.

Examples of how to draw basic faces

Outline of task1. Draw your self-portrait onto a piece of

white paper using a greylead pencil.Which emotion will you show?Consider the size of your drawing – your self-portrait should fit nicely within the A4 piece of paper.

2. Create a pattern of coloured shapes within your face.

Use coloured pencils/crayons, make sure you can still see your facial features.

3. Outline your facial features with a black pencil or texta.

4. If you want to, you can then colour in your background.

Consider using black or a bright colour that might help your portrait stand out.

5. Then take a photo of your artwork and upload it to your computer. Then go back to the visual arts google classroom and insert the photo to your google doc.

6. Then write your answers to the reflection questions in the week 1 and 2 section.

*If you are unable to upload the photo and find the reflection questions, write your answers on a piece of paper and keep it in a folder with your artwork and you can hand that into me at a later date.
