Thisbriefrequireduscreatingastopframeanimationbasedonaphraseorcollectionofwordswhichreperesentedmovement.Istartedoffthisprocessbybrainstormingpossi-blephrases,whichIcoulduseasaconcept,andfromthisIarrivedat‘thereandbackagain’.Thisphrase,tome,evokedajourney.Ifurtherbrainstormedtheideaofajourneyandthoughtofgamepiecestakingajourneyonaboardgame.SincethisbriefwasconnectedtotypographyandIwantedtoconnectittoboardgamestheobviouschoicewas‘scrabble’.Torepresentthe‘journey’Ihadthe‘scrabble’piecesmovealongtheboardandaroundit,wherethe‘players’viewthe‘journey’oftheirpieces.Ialsomadeuseofa‘hand’togivetheviewerafeelofinteractivitywiththeanimation.

Week 3: 3D Typography

BackgroundThisweek’sbriefrequiredususingthetypefromlastweeksbriefandmovingthemintoAfterEffectstocreate3Dtypeinthebackgroundfromlastweeks.ThiswasaproblemformyasmybackgroundfromthepreviousweekhadnofloororsurfacetowhichIcouldplacethetypeontoinaway,whichwouldmakeitlookrealistic.Somyfirstmovewassearchingforanewbackground,whichevokedthesamefeelingandwordsasmypreviousone.Thissearchgavemethisnewbackground.InchoosinganewbackgroundIalsohadtogenerateanewcolourpalettetoworkwith.

Final Type

Using3DSforthefirsttimeandcreatingmyfirstever3DworkgavetheimagesbelowandtobehonestI’mtoexcitedabouttheresults.Atthemomentthisisthecurrentlevelmy3DSisatbutitwillimprove.Ifoundthebevellingstraight-forwardbutwhatgavemeproblemswasthelightingandplacementoftextonthebackground.Iusedthree-pointlightingandattemptedatusingittomatchthelightingofthebackground.Thiswastheprocess

Ifoundthemostdifficulttodo.Aproblem,whichoc-curredduringthisprojectwasthatwhenimportingmypathsinto3DSsomeofthepathswouldn’tappear,whichgavemehollowlet-terforms.Isolvedthisprob-lembyremakingthepathsandthenimportingonceagain.

illustrationswhichweretobeusedaswallpapers.Myfirstmovewastofindoutwhatwerethedimensionsofmycom-puterandphone.Thisgavemethecanvassizetoworkon.TocreatetheflowingbackgroundIdecidedtouseatex-turewhichalreadyhadapre-existingflowingrhythm.FortheregularrhythmIusedtheimageofashoebutspiltitdownthemiddleandswitchedthecolour.Ididthistoadddepthtotheillustrationstonotmakeittoboring.FinallyfortheprogressiverhythmIknockeddowntheopacityonthebrushes,asitwouldbelayeredontopofeachothershow-ingtheprogression.ForthecomputerwallpaperIhadtobearinmindthelay-outoftheiconsonthescreen.Isolvedthisproblembycut-tingofftherighthandsectionofthewallpapertomakespacefortheicons.

Week 7: Analouge & Digital Process

Processes

Mychosenpoemwas‘TheDeadWoman’byPabloNer-uda.Ichosetoexcerptthefirststanzaofthepoemandcreateanimagebasedonthisexcerpt.SotostartoffIanalysedthewordsandwrotedownwhatthesewordsmademethinkof.WordsthatIthoughtoffwhilereadingthispoemwere:sadness,death,anxiety,writing,lossandsound.ThestylesheetconsistedofimagesconnectedwiththesewordsandIendedupusingafewofthemformyfinalimage.Icreatedascribbled‘blue’collagetoemitthefeel-ingofanxietyandsadnessofthepoem.Ialsoaddedasilhouetteofawomanfortheobviousrea-soningofthepoembeingcalled‘TheDeadWoman’.FrommystylesheetIusedtheimagesofdeadleavesandspeak-ersinmyfinalimage.Iusedthedeadleavesintheback-groundtohintattheideaofdeathinthepoem.Ithenprintedthisdesignontolinedpaperinsteadofregular

Week 8: Protest Graphics

Initial Idea - Development

therewouldn’tbetoomuchgoingoninthescreen,sothattheviewerwouldconcentratemoreonthesound.My2secondanimationconsistedofastarquicklyspirallingoffthescreen.IdidthisbecausethesongstartsoffwitharumblingsoundandIthoughtthebestwaytorepresentthatthiswasthebestwaytorepresentthatsound.The3secondanimationconsistedofthreecirclesmovingintothecentreofthescreenandthemiddlecirclemovingtowardsthescreenandfadingout.IdidthistoadddepthtotheanimationandthereasonforthefadewassoIcouldtransitiontothenextanimation.Finallythe1secondanimationconsistedofasquareflippingonitsaxisandmovingoffshot,myreasoningbehindthiswastoonceagainadddepthand.Ichosetousevibrantcolourswithawhitestrokesothatmyanimationswouldstandoutagainsttheblackbackground.

Ofthethreebooksmadeduringthebook-makingworkshop,IfeltthatthebesttomakewouldbetheJapaneseboundasitcouldbemadeusingana3layoutandwouldbetheeasiest,ingeneral,toputtogether.However,af-terthinkingoveritIdecidedongetting

myfinalworkbookring-binded.IcametothisconclusionbecauseIfeltthatusingthehand-madebookwouldmakethemeasytodamageandalsotakealotoftimetoputtogether.Whereasusingaring-bindedbookwouldgiveamoreprofessionallookandalsoprovidethecontentswithprotection.IdecidedtodesignthreedifferentlayoutdesignssothatI
