Semiconductor Extension-of-Life® The World’s Most Comprehensive Solutions for Device Availability

“A proactive approach to obsolescence can keep production on schedule and keep maintenance and repair hassles to a minimum.”

Solutions provided for the critical semiconductors needed... with no compromises.

Rochester’s TOTAL SOLUTIONRochester’s Philosophy of Semiconductor Availability Rochester Electronics has the largest Factory-Authorized Safety Stock [FASSt] and Extension-of-Life® inventory and production device catalog, with full contractual authorizations from the original manufacturers.

Rochester’s Extension-of-Life scope of solutions assures both semiconductor buyers and system design engineers a legitimate and stable continuous supply of authorized and certified devices for the duration of a system’s life cycle.

Rochester’s FASSt™ (Factory Authorized Safety Stock) Program is for times when products are not available from traditional authorized distributors or have a long factory lead time. Customers can rely on Rochester to provide a complementary safety net supply of products that are fully guaranteed.

Rochester’s Extension-of-Life solutions range from in-stock, factory-direct finished inventory to continued manufacture of devices from both OCM and Rochester wafer/die, as well as OCM authorized Rochester re-created devices. These solutions guarantee availability for as long as a system’s production continues.

Rochester Electronics is the contractually authorized long term solution for more than 60 leading Original ComponentManufacturers [OCMs] to provide their customers critical long term support of discontinued and mature devices.

The timely transfer to Rochester Electronics enables flexibility to production schedules for its next-generation devices, while continuing to support industries requiring critical long term support.

“... quality, reliability and ongoing availability.”

It’s a growing problem for many industries across the world: Production projections – for six months or twenty years – call for a steady supply of critical semiconductors that will no longer be available from the original manufacturer.

Requirement estimations for EOL last time buy are not always accurate. Having a contingency plan is key. There may not be sufficient stock available and if found, it’s expensive to store the components so that quality is maintained.

Going outside the supply chain runs the risk of acquiring counterfeit and substandard semiconductors. These components are not always revealed until used in production, causing devastating failures in the field.

Assisting in planning for contingencies is Rochester’s specialty.

The Rochester ElectronicsSemiconductor Life Cycle

When a semiconductor is utilized by a CRITICAL SYSTEM that is slated to stay in production for extended periods of time, sometimes as long as 30 to 50 years, the manufacturer needs to make sure that production lines are uninterrupted.

Rochester can make this happen. For more detailed information on Critical Systems, use the QR code to visit the online documentation.

Complex industries affected by EOL situations need to plan well ahead of component obsolescence.

Avoiding Re-design with Re-creationRe-creation solutions are meant to avoid lengthy and expensive system re-design, re-certification or re-qualification. Re-creation does not always mean a huge expense. Rochester funded re-creation based on aggregate demand is not unusual. This takes the initial NRE cost out of the equation when considering re-creation.

• Process Modules• Full Process Installs• Gate Array• Customer-Specific Re-Creations• FPGA to ASIC Conversion • Alternative solutions available for lower cost/faster lead time

• Non-system critical lower cost options

Semiconductor Manufacturing: Product Re-creationThe Rochester Semiconductor Replication Process™ [SRP™] is rooted in an experienced, in-house design group who develop solutions for long-term support when inventory of finished goods and wafers are exhausted.

“As close to an exact copy of the original as possible!”

With the original manufacturer’s approval, Rochester can re-create the original device. The design is adjusted to run on the same technology and have the same die size as the original. The end product is a form, fit, timing, and functional replacement that is guaranteed to the original data sheet performance. A side-by-side comparison will show the two parts to look virtually identical, resulting in a true, drop-in replacement part.

• A highly experienced Rochester Design Team• Selection of off-the-shelf and Rochester-unique processes• Physical design replication from the original archive or die• Physical process replication through process and device analysis and selection• Electrical performance replication

Results in more than 100 successfully replicated products!

Types of products re-created by Rochester with 100% success:

• ASIC• Microprocessor• Precision Analog

• BiCMOS• Power Devices

• Mixed Signal• Bipolar• CMOS

High-Reliability testing that assures product quality. The idea of “High-Reliability” electronics comes from electronics systems that require enhanced reliability to meet their intended uses when extended life times, increased dependability, or robustness is essential. Hi-Rel products are made with better materials to delay end-of-life failure mechanisms and better control manufacturing processes to minimize manufacturing defects. Rochester’s protocol guarantees testing that is always accurate.

The Semiconductor Industry Association Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force [ SIA ACTF ]Rochester worked with the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) in the formation of the SIA Anti-Counterfeiting Task Force, which continues to work domestically and internationally to prevent counterfeit components from entering the supply chain.

The Site’s Origin:• Created in 2006 after the well-attended Rochester’s Anti-Counterfeit Symposium• Discussed with the SIA and several OCMs • Curt Gerrish committed Rochester to build and maintain the site as a benefit to the semiconductor industry supply chain

What is the Authorized Directory?• Repository of information of distributors as authorized by OCMs• Counterfeit information, news, resources and more

The Electronics Authorized Directory is the “Official Manufacturers’ Distributor Authorization Reference Manual” and is making it easy to avoid counterfeit product by safely purchasing through authorized distribution!
