Hamburg’s Site Hostess Be sure to make your lunch reservations at least one day in advance by 12:00 PM for regular daily hot lunches. Lunch is served at 11:45 AM. A
donation of $3.00 for the hot meal is suggested. If you have any questions or want to make reservations call Carol at (810) 231-3284 (this number does not always work so call the center).
NOTE: If you are unable to come in for your lunch, our kitchen would appreciate your cooperation to notify the center early that morning or the day before.

Trustee Monthly Meetings The Hamburg Board of Trustees will be meeting
this month on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 2:30 PM and Tuesday, August 21 at 7:00 PM. The Township board is hoping more seniors will
attend the meetings and get more involved in our community. Mark these dates down on your calendars and let
your voices be heard.

The State Attorney General’s Office will be in here to present information on Identity
Theft, your Credit Report Form, the Equifax Breach and Credit Freeze, Fraud Alert & Credit Monitoring. Lots of very helpful information will be dispensed so

End of Life Issues
Join us as Jason Negri explains the legal and ethical aspects of End-of-Life
issues. Jason Negri serves as the Hamburg Township Treasurer and is
also the Assistant Director of the Patients Rights Council. Jason will also discuss various types of advance
directives, what to look for when making advance directives and which
ones are problematic. His presentation about general end-of-life issues will include practical aspects of
estate planning, what can be wrong with advance directives, your durable
power of attorney for health care, end-of-life medical ethics and the
threat of doctor-prescribed suicide.

I ‘d like to introduce new members who have joined the Hamburg Senior Center this past month. Please

Sharon Wietecha teaches our Card-Making Class.
Every month a new session will teach different
methods of creating greeting cards from scratch.
A total of 4-5 cards will be made.

This summer has certainly been a hot one, but hopefully it has been a good one for you. For our August photo board, let us
share pictures of some of our favorite summer activities, past or present.
Attach your photo with your name on the front for all your friends to see. As always, your photos will be returned at the end of the month in the envelope on the corner of the photo board (where you will also see an envelope to put your suggestions
for future months.)

Senior Power Day
This year the theme for Senior Power Day is
“Disco into Aging”. There will be 50 vendors and the Red Barrel for medicine disposal
from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. We have a
comedian and door prizes from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Pre-registration has taken place
already…………..yeah, I know, you didn’t know anything about that………..me either!! I do at least know that hamburgers are on
the menu for lunch but not much more than that. You can call Senior Nutrition at 810-
632-2155 for more information on that.

Primary Election Day
Yep, it’s that time of year again! Elections!! Time to exercise your RIGHT to VOTE!!! And
yes, I do VOTE and have ever since I turned 18 and gained that right!! Obviously, I feel very
strongly about voting in every election as that is the only way to effect change. So in that spirit,
we are closing the Senior Center at the township’s request so that our parking lot will be available to those coming in to vote at the
township building.

Meeting called to order at 10:01 am. All board members present except Pat Kolasinski.
Approval of Agenda: Gary Kaiser moved with addition of a windows update, parking lot and a coffeemaker as agenda items, Gerry Przeslawski supported.

Old Business: (a) Arm Chair Travel: went very well and enjoyed by all ; (b) Fall Prevention & Peace of Mind Seminars: Fall Prevention only had 2 seniors attend while the Peace of Mind had 25-30; (c) Chair Yoga: Tuesday Yoga times are changing to 9:15 and 10:30 so Chair Yoga can be held in dining room; (d) Floor Wax: being done over
Holiday weekend; (e) Kroger’s Reward Program: received $26.40 on June 4; (f) Windows: Gary brought up the windows need to be either repaired or replaced, Chuck to speak to Mike Dolan; (g) Parking Lot: Gary brought up the several car accidents and when the lines are going to be painted again as well as more handicap spots, Chuck to speak to Deby Henneman at the township
New Business: (a) Cooking Class: presented by Gleaners and held July 25; (b) Identity Theft: State Attorney General’s office to present current information; (c) End of Life Issues: Jason Negri to speak on these issues on August 8; (d) Elder Law Presentation: elder law attorney Christopher Berry to explain how to protect your assets; (e) Senior Power Day: being held at Brighton High School on August 3; (f) Chris Semi-Retirement: Chris has begun to use up time and will work part-time beginning Jan. 2019 when
Julie will take over as Director; (g) Coffeemaker: Gary made motion purchase a new coffeemaker, Gerry Przeslawski supported, passed; (h) Attendance: 2018: May total of 1331, daily average of 60; June total 1146, daily 55. 2017: May total of 1286, daily average of 57; June total 1162, daily 55 2016: May total of 1170, daily 56; June total 1021, daily 46.
Call to the Public: Annette Koeble discussed Master Plan survey the township would
like to see citizens fill out; Deb Kaiser would like staff to go in prior to an activity to publicize survey. Sally Gates wanted to know what had happened to old bingo machine and was informed it would be recycled if it could not be sold.

August Pot Luck August is here and so is Hawaii’s day of statehood………...a favorite day for Joan Borik who always likes us to celebrate it in our Pot Luck. Joan is moving to CA to be closer to her son so this is her farewell
Pot Luck. Joan has been our table decorator for years so we will miss her!! And Mike Dolan has again volunteered to grill some hamburgers………...he must really like y’all!! 2 months in a row!! ;)
As per usual, please bring a dish large enough to feed 12—15 peeps (peoples, that is) :) and sign up on the sign-up sheet that is on the front foyer table so we know about how many
desserts we have as opposed to side dishes. We like to try and keep everything kind of balanced out if possible!

A passport, passcard or enhanced driver’s license are REQUIRED for Canadian Trips!!
Also, please remember to bring your driver’s license or state authorized photo ID on all casino trips!
It’s required if you win big!
Just a reminder that on the overnight trips a $50 deposit secures your reservation. It is also a very good idea to make your reservation earlier than the stipulated “monies due date” as trips like
that fill up fairly quick at the Bianco level. By getting your $50 deposit in, it guarantees your spot!
** We are sharing most day trips in order to make the trips a go, please reserve your spot quickly! Our trips for 2018 have been set up and a list is available in the office.

Summer is here and warmer weather means there are more motorcycles on the road and you should be
very aware of your surroundings. Before you pull out in the street make sure you look twice please ……….. motorcycles are everywhere and can be difficult to see in the road especially the black ones!
Like mine!! So take an extra minute or so to look out for that motorcycle that just might be me ridin’
on down the road!!
Senior Center Trip Cancellation Policy Adopted: 03/14/2018
Casino Trips: Can register in advance but all fees must be paid in full 30 days prior to trip departure
Advance reservations will be cancelled unless prior arrangements for payment have been approved by the Director
Seat reservations will be made upon final payment and are not transferable
No refunds, of any kind, will be given for cancellations up to 7 days prior to departure Day Trips: Can register in advance but all fees must be paid in full 45 days prior to trip departure

A full refund of the cost of the trip (not including the Cancellation Insurance amount) will be returned even if the cancellation takes place within the 30 days prior to trip departure, for any reason, for Day Trips only ** price of show/venue ticket not refundable after tickets are ordered!! Senior Center Policies:
In the event of bad or inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to cancel for safety reasons. We will do our best to reschedule should this occur. Under most circumstances this will result in a full refund
In the case of last minute cancellations, we will do our best to sell your seat in order to return your fee, however, cancellation fees may apply. Any cancellation fees that are billed to Hamburg Township by the Tour Company will in turn be billed to the registrant
No refunds will be given to registrants who do not show up for the trip
Copy of the Tour Companies Cancellation policy will be provided to all registrants
