The meeting decided that themain function will be held at
Sports stadium where the VIPshall unfurl the National Flagand take salute from the marchpast contingents drawn frombelt forces and school students.
Various committees were con-stituted by the DeputyCommissioner for monitoringnecessary arrangements for thecelebrations. He exhorted uponthe concerned agencies toensure that the arrangementsare put in place well in time forsmooth conduct of the day.
As per the past practice, theDay will start with the playingof Shehnai Vadan byInformation Department. After
the flag hoisting and paradeceremony, cultural items on thetheme of national integrationand national themes would bepresented by the students of thegovernment and privateschools. The DDC directed theofficers to put in sincere effortsfor making arrangements wellin advance. He further dis-cussed in detail the arrange-ments related to barricading,seating, sanitation, security,traffic regulation, power, waterand deployment of fire tendersetc.
The DDC directed PHE andPDD to ensure availability of
drinking water and uninter-rupted power supply on theNational Day as well as on allthe rehearsal days. The HealthDepartment was asked to makeavailable sufficient number ofdoctors along with an ambu-lance and medicines at thevenue. Directions were alsopassed on to MunicipalCommittee to intensify the san-itation drive in the city and themain venue. The DC directedcivic authorities to illuminatethe venue and put up tempo-rary toilets for the convenienceof the visitors, students andother participants.
STATE TIMES NEWSMENDHAR: Terming existingDistrict Planning Boards as'illegal bodies' , Dr ShazadMalik, Vice Chancellor of SaiNath University requested theGovernor N.N Vohra to imme-diately dissolve all existing dis-trict planning boards across theState.
The appeal for dissolution ofthese boards has been made byDr Shazad while addressing agathering in Naka ManjhariPanchayat Halqa of bordertown Mendhar under YouthMotivational and BorderResidents InteractionProgram.
The VC appealed toGovernor to dissolve theseboards and alleged that thesuccessive governments forpolitical considerationsappointed their ministers as thechairpersons of these boards.The VC informed the peoplethat though there is provision ofconstitution of District
Development and planningboard in each district under theJammu and KashmirPanchayati Raj Act 1989 andfurther citing section 45, 46and 47 of the act, the VC saidthis act clearly calls for electedand democratic bodies unlikeexisting boards where like mon-archs the ministers are appoint-ed as chairpersons unlawfully.The VC said how a non Local(Minister) can spare time andtake decisions at micro level asa district is comprised of sever-al tehsils, blocks, panchayatsand wards. The VC also
demanded inclusion of eminentand prominent locals of the dis-tricts as special invitees inmeetings of new DistrictDevelopment and PlanningBoards(DDPBs) as and whenconstituted as per the act.
During the meeting in NakaManjhari, the locals alsoapprised the VC about shortageof clean drinking water andshortage of staff in governmentschools. Earlier in the dayProminent people of the areagave a warm welcome to thevice Chancellor on his arrival inthe village.

STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: A plantationdrive was launched by DFOSocial Forestry RajouriNadeem Iqbal Mirza inGovernment High School(GHS) Mehtka on Friday inpresence of prominent personsof the village.
Range Officer GulshanKumar, Block Officer RomeshChander and other forest teamofficials in collaboration withthe school staff and the stu-dents planted 350 saplings offruit trees and other ornamen-tal plants within the schoolpremises.
While addressing the RangeOfficer advised the studentsthat they are better ambassa-dors in the remote areas tospread the message of plantingtrees which not only maintainthe ecological balance but alsoprovide us oxygen, fruits andherbs. He also advised the stu-dents to plant one tree everyyear.

SAMBA: Residents of WardNo 9 and 10 Samba have notbeen provided with thedrinking water by the PHEauthorities for the last sevendays without sufficient rea-sons to do so.
The residents said that allof a sudden discontinuingthe supply of drinking waterto the people is in no way lessthan a criminal act where thepeople are left with no alter-native. The residents thoughapproached many times theconcerned JE and others,but they failed to supply thewater taking such com-plaints lightly.
