VETERANS BENEFITS

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

The Congress has provided that entitlement.to:certain veteransbenefits be limited to persons serving in the Armed Forces during theperiod,, beginning August5, 064, referred to as the Vietnam era. ThePresident- -is authorized to determine the last day on,, which a'person musthave entered the active military, naval, or air service of the UnitedStates in order for such service to qualify as service during that period.

The signing of the cease-fire agreements .and implementing protocolson January 27, 1973, between the United States of America and the Repub1icof Vietnam, on the one hantivand- the Democratic Republic of Vietnam akOtheProvisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam onthe other hand, has terminated active participation by the ArMed Forces-ofthe United States.in the Vietnam conflict.'..-

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GERALD R. FORD0.President of the United. Statesof America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 101(29) ofTitle 38 of the United-States Code, do hereby'prociaiml for the purposes ofsaid Section 101(29), that May 7, 1975, is designated as the last day ofthe "Vietnam era."

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day ofMay in the year of our,Lord nineteen hundred eeventy-live, and of the.Independence of the United States of America the one-hundred ninety-ninth.
