Happy New Year!

Hard to believe another year has gone by, I hope 2017 is a healthy, happy year for each of you and

your family.

Updates:

Holiday Craft Show Bake Sale

A special thank you to Dorothy Bailey, the Chairwoman of the Bake Sale, and her crew who sold well

over $800 worth of goodies. On behalf of the Center and Dorothy Bailey, we would like to thank each

and every one who donated baked goods and to all of the shoppers who once again made the sale a

GREAT SUCCESS! All proceeds benefit our Center.

Christmas Party

A big thank you to Don and Betty Pare’ for the donation of the beautiful handcrafted rubbish bin, and to

our quilters who kindly donated a Christmas quilt. All items were raffled off at the Christmas Party.

The Center is so fortunate to have the support of our members who so generously donate their time and

talents, as well as the many gifts throughout the year. What teamwork, thank you to all!

Name Change

September Days Senior Center is looking to change its name and we would like your input. If you have

a name idea please write it down and drop it in the suggestion box located on the wall across from the

office.

Ping Pong

If you are interested in playing Ping Pong or would like to learn to play, the Center now has a table.

Great game for eye, hand coordination as well as a good challenge.

As another year has come to an end and I reflect upon 2016, I am ever grateful that I get to see our

members each day. It is wonderful to see our regular participants as well as the new members I meet

here at September Days!

I’m wishing for each of you a year filled with health, happiness and positivity!

Kind regards,

Lynette

Here’s a toast to the future, a toast to the past, and a toast to our friends, far and near. May the future

Today’s Plans

I woke up early today, excited over all

I get to do before the clock strikes midnight.

I have responsibilities to fulfill today.

I am important.

My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy, OR…

I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money, OR…

I can be glad that my finances encouraged me to plan

my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste

Today I can grumble about my health, OR…

I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn’t give me

when I was growing up, OR…

I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns, OR…

I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends, OR…

I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school, OR…

Eagerly open my mind and fill it with new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework, OR…

I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped.

And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me.

I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Have a great day my friend or...maybe you have other plans.

The Seven Wonders of the World

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present “Seven Wonders

of the World.” Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids

2. Taj Mahal

3. Grand Canyon

4. Panama Canal

5. Empire State Building

6. St. Peter's Basilica

7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, “Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many.”

The teacher said, “Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help.” The girl hesitated, then read, “I think the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ are:

1. To See

2. To Hear

3. To Touch

4. To Taste

5. To Feel

6. To Laugh

7. And to Love.”

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous!

A gentle reminder -- that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.

JANUARY FEBRUARY MARCH 2017

There is a nearly endless supply of morning exercise routines out there, but getting out of bed is the hardest part! Before you even make your coffee, try this short and sweet routine to prepare for the gym, the office, the kids, and anything else on your agenda! Morning can be tough, and when you have to wake up early to exercise, they are even worse! If I told you you can get energized for the day while still laying in bed, would you believe me? After you switch off the alarm, take a moment to mindfully settle into the new day filled with opportunity and then do these easy exercises. This routine takes about 5 minutes, with minimal effort and maximum energizing results.

Fast Palm Rub

Laying on your back with your head still resting on your pillow, bring your palms together at your chest and rub them as fast and hard as you can for 30 seconds. This will increase your energy level in seconds and increase the flow of warm blood to the body.

Toe Tapping

With your legs straight, keep your heels together and begin to tap you big toes together. Move your feet as rapidly as you can without straining yourself, and tap as hard as is comfortable. You will feel your legs start to tingle and energy will travel up your legs. Do this for at least one minute or 50 repetitions, depending on which comes first.

Spinal Twist

Bring your knees to your chest as if you were going to wrap your arms around them and give them a hug. Cross one leg over the other and let the legs fall to one side of your body. As you do this, position your arms into a right angle from your elbow pointing towards your pillow, and turn your head in the opposite direction on your legs. Gently bring your knees back to center, put the opposite knee on top and repeat. Hold each side for 30-45 seconds. When finished, stretch your legs back out straight.

Abdominal Breathing

Sit-up with a straight, but relaxing spine. Begin breathing in deeply and fill your abdomen with your breath. Do this for at least one minute to feel the full effects. With this mindful breathing practice, you’ll feel your cells awakening and energy building. Now your body is fully energized and ready for the day. Even if you’re not a morning person, these simple exercises will help you feel like you can take on anything-and all before you even step out of bed.
