The LINK Newsletter
ST. LUKE’S SCHOOL
September 12, 2014
Dear Friend of St. Luke’s School,
What a wonderful week at St. Luke’s School! Our students are settling in and the routine and
rhythm of school is apparent as I visit classrooms throughout the day. Our preschoolers began
their new school year on Wednesday and now all classes on campus are in full swing.
This issue of The Link contains lots of information about this past week as well as the coming
weeks ahead. There is also some very important information from our school nurses regarding
new regulations surrounding the administration of medication at school. Be sure to read this
edition in its entirety.
Sincerely,
Maureen A. Jannetta
Principal

WHAT IS CAMP at ST. LUKE’S SCHOOL? CAMP is an acronym for Come And Meander and Play. It is our before and after school
program that allows your child to be cared for by our staff on school property.

monthly. Cost is $6.00 per hour.
Morning CAMP 7:30AM-8:30AM

is bringing the child to school is to bring the child to Mrs. Deschenes directly and sign the child
in. Under no circumstance is a child to be left at the door or dropped at the door.
Afternoon CAMP 3:00PM-5:30PM
Parent may call the office directly or send in a note that your child is staying for after school
CAMP. Please do not send an email to the principal, teacher or secretary as we may not receive
the email in a timely manner.
Student will be delivered to CAMP staff at dismissal.
REMINDER: Only those listed on Emergency Care Form can pick up a child from
CAMP. Students are picked up in the gym or on the playground.

NOW OPEN TO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS!!
The St. Luke’s Drama Club will provide an opportunity for students in
Grades 3-8 to express their unique talents in a creative after school
program. Under the direction of Kerry Schiff (Miss Kerry) the Drama
Club aims to improve student achievement in literacy through theater
games, improvisation, pantomime, scene study, character building, and
teamwork. In addition, students participating in this 12 week course
will be prepared for the Drama Club’s second season, where we will
work on a one act play to perform for family and friends.
About the Instructor
Kerry Schiff has been involved with theatre and the performing arts as a
director, actor, stage manager, and designer. She started acting at a
young age where she played roles such as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz
and Pepper in Annie. Her love of theater grew when she began
teaching theater at summer camps and at All Children’s Theater. She
served as the house manager at the Community College of Rhode Island
from 2010 to 2012. She has been working as the theater teacher at
Vartan Gregorian Elementary School in Providence for the past 5 years.
She values the transformative value that theater has on young children,
both in and out of the classroom!

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSES…. Motrin, Tylenol and Cough Drops
The Tylenol/Motrin Form you received in your first day packet cannot be used
this year due to new RI State Health Regulations. This year we need all medication
orders to have both a doctor’s order and parent signature. This form is available on
our website (“Medication Authorization Form”). The old forms are not valid. We
must have a new form (doctor’s order and parent signature) in order to give any
child a prescription or over-the-counter medicine. This includes cough drops.
Epipens and Inhalers
If your child requires an epipen or inhaler we ask that you send it to school as soon
as possible. The medication must be in its original box labeled from the pharmacy.
In addition, we also need the proper paperwork which is located on our website.
Orders must be signed by a physician and a parent must sign and date the form also.
Field Trips
All medication forms must be up to date in order for a child to participate on a field
trip. Please make every effort to have all med forms and medication in by this
Friday, especially our middle school students who have a field trip on Monday
FLU CLINIC
A vaccination clinic will be held at St. Luke’s School on Thursday, October 2nd from 8AM-10AM in the gym. You can register online at
www.thewellcomp.com/school or fill out the consent form that is being sent home on Monday.
Although insurance information is collected, there is no out of pocket cost for anyone!

DRESS DOWN DAY CONNECTION
Our first Dress Down Day will be held on Monday, September
29th
The preschool is hosting the dress down day in support of the Mobile Loaves and Fishes Ministry
Mobile Loaves & Fishes is a social outreach ministry that provides food,
clothing and toiletries to our brothers and sisters in need.
Our church is part of the MLF truck ministry. This catering truck is shared by 9 local churches. Volunteers stock the truck with food, clothing, and
other necessities needed by the working poor and homeless of Rhode Island. Each month volunteers take the truck to various sites, shelters and
parks to distribute these items.
At St. Luke’s School our students volunteer at our Sandwich Club where students make sandwiches and fill lunch bags that are then loaded onto
the truck for distribution.
This amazing ministry is always in need of your support! The preschool has offered the first Dress Down Day for the Mobile Loaves and Fishes
truck ministry.
50% of all money raised at our September 29th Dress Down Day will pay for the food for the MLF truck.
(The other 50% raised goes directly to our PTO).
