Message from the Pastor We live in a world full of appearances and fantasy that blinds our eyes and prevents us from seeing the depth of things. We fix the house up, trying that our guests won’t see the dirty laundry or the trash. People who are dating present the best of themselves to cause a good impression. Many want to appear as wealthy and well-off, and so they speak about travels and money. Politicians try to appear honest, until their corruption is discovered. In each one of us there is, at bottom, some hypocrisy. We easily wear a mask around others so that we may look better than we are and to distract them so that they won’t see how we are inside. It’s like that pleasant smile worn by many sellers, that does not give us time to see through their intentions so that they can take our money. In today’s gospel, the Lord gives us a lesson about the value of things and the falsehood of hypocrisy. During this weekend’s Masses, we will see the simple appearance of bread on the altar. If we look only with our bodily eyes, God isn’t there and our getting together makes no sense. But if we look with faith, there is the Lord. Today we will read from the Bible; if we don’t look for God’s message behind the words, this book is only worth as much as a dictionary. If we don’t put the effort in seeing a brother or sister in each other, isolating ourselves as in the chairs of a theater, we are not the people of God. May this week’s Eucharistic celebration help us to understand the true meaning of our Christian faith.

Mensaje del Párroco Vivimos en un mundo lleno de apariencias y de fantasías que nos deslumbra los ojos y nos impide ver el fondo de las cosas. Arreglamos muy linda la casa, tratamos que los huéspedes no vean la ropa sucia ni la basura. Los novios presentan lo mejor de sí mismos para causar buena impresión. Muchos quieren aparentar ser ricos y acomodados y hablan de viajes y dinero. Los políticos parecen inmaculados, hasta que se descubre su corrupción. En el fondo de cada uno de nosotros hay un poco de hipocresía. Ponemos fácilmente una máscara ante los demás para que nos haga ver mejores de lo que somos y distraigan a la mente, a fin de que no nos vea el interior. Es como la sonrisa encantadora de muchos comerciantes que no nos da tiempo para ver sus intenciones de engañarnos y llevarse nuestro dinero. En el evangelio de este día el Señor tiene una tremenda lección sobre el valor de las cosas y la falsedad de la hipocresía. En las misas de este fin de semana vamos a ver la apariencia muy sencilla de pan sobre el altar. Si solo miramos con los ojos del cuerpo, allí no está Dios y nuestra reunión no tiene sentido. Pero si miramos con fe, allí está el Señor presente. Hoy vamos a leer en la Biblia; si no buscamos detrás de las palabras el mensaje de Dios que habla, este libro vale tanto como cualquier diccionario. Si nosotros no nos esforzamos por ver en cada uno de los demás a un hermano, preferimos aislarnos como en las butacas de un teatro, no somos el pueblo de Dios. Que la celebración eucarística de este fin de semana nos ayude a comprender el verdadero significado de la fe cristiana.
