Its hard to be lieve my year as President will be upafter next month. Talk about time flying!

    Tip of the Month:

Paper Piecing: Always remember to cut any pieces

of fabric, so that the edges of the foundation are cuton the grain of the fabric. Fabric stretches and thisis where the grain is most important. Cut the fabricinto strips the width of the largest piece, then sub

cut the strips into squares, rectangles, etc...Thisdoes two things: (1) keeps your fabric straight of

grain and (2) gives pieces that will fit.

    President's Letter cont.

You can use a very light weight sew in interfacing

for paper piecing instead of paper. it can stay in,you can see through it and it is cheap. Pigna pens

are great for tracing onto it. Or, you can use dryer

sheets for paper piecing instead of paper. Theseneed to be used sheets. They can be left after

    piecing for stablization.

    Happy quilting!

Congratulations to Jenna Ingle &Debbie Pierschbacher our 2008

    Mary Conkel Award winners!

    Alittle bit about Debbie Pierschbacher

My name is Debbie Pierschbacher and I will beyour next President of AAQG, look out, I hope

    I'm a good one!

I made my first two quilts when I was in highschool; I cut out rectangles of polyester scraps

using a recipe card as a pattern then sewed away. These two quilts are somewhere I think, probablyin my parents attic.

I did not quilt again until a woman I worked with,Mabel Hambling, showed us quilts that she made

in a class that met in Panora once a month. So Istarted out making 1 quilt a month starting with

quilts like Pineapple Log Cabin and a PostageStamp (meaning 1 inch squares) Star---it issurprising I kept going.

I still enjoy quilting and wish I had more time

    to sew.

    Alittle bit about Jenna Ingle

I began my quilting journey in 2000. I took an 8

week beginning quilting class through AnkenyAdult Education. My quilting classmate was my

mother, Charlotte Stordahl ( aka our guild

secretary). My Mom had been quilting for a fewyears, but wanted to get me started, so we took the

class together. I joined AAQG in June 2003, andjumped in with both feet. I have been vice

president, president, retreat chair and currentlyprogram chair. I enjoy being involved with theAAQG board, I like getting information first

hand, helping with decision making and I havemet a lot of lifelong quilting friends. I also LOVE

our annual retreat! It is an awesome weekend toget away from home and do nothing but sew,

shop, eat and chat... what more could a girl need?

I like receiving quilting magazines in the mail

( honestly, I get too many). My favorite is a newerpublication called 'Quilter's Home'. It is a modernquilter's magazine and the editor, Mark Lipinski,

is hilarious. My favorite fabric designer is AmyButler ( I actually met her 2 summers ago). She

has a modern flair, big motif prints in brightcolors, it reminds me of 70's wallpaper. I amattracted to almost all brightly colored fabric, and

batiks are my second favorite. I usually buy fabrickits because I can make it exactly how it looked in

the store. I also buy matching fabric for the back(yes, I pay full price for every yard of backingfabric). I am very particular that way.

I am definitely addicted to fabric shopping, and Iwill have to live to be 150 years old to complete

everything I have bought and what I inherit frommy mother (sorry mom).

I have a new obsession that will be starting thisJanuary 2009..... my first child! Yes, you read it

right, I am expecting January 28.

Thank you for my Mary Conkel award, I am

honored to be recognized among this group ofinspiring quilter's.

    Jenna Ingle
