How do you test for the presence of simple sugars? To test for the

presence of simple sugars… use Benedict’s Solution.

Add 5 drops of Benedict’s Solution and heat.

If solution changes to orange, then simple sugars are present.

Starch? To test for the presence of starch… use Lugol’s solution (IKI iodine)

Add 3 drops of Lugol’s solution

If a solutions changes to blue-black, then starch is present.
