The 2013 Penning season came to and end on Sunday afternoon, September 15th with the last run of our Finals. We had a record number of entries at 270 teams! Congratulations to all the winners and a HUGE THANKS to the organizing committee of Ken Dalgliesh, Wayne Klassen and Norine Mitchell. We could not have done this big a show without a large group of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers. I hesitate to name names for fear of missing someone, so to every-one who helped-THANKS! Also, thanks to our Judges, Rob, Karen and Randy who kept the show going and everyone in line.
I also want to say a special thanks to Laurie, our dedi-cated secretary, for her hard work at this show and throughout the year. She takes entries, puts together the runs, calculates the fi nances, and tabulates our points for each and every show. This is a pile of work and she has done a wonderful job for many years.
2013 has been a great year and I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM on November 16th to discuss your Associa-tion. And of course, the award banquet will follow at the Canad Inn in Portage.

More details for our next show, our Fall Classic, held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon are as follows;
• $120 per rider in #8 class• $100 per rider in #6 class• Horse and tack stalls- $45 for 2 nights per stall, $60
for 3 nights per stall• Weekend access pass- $25 (gains entry to MRCA
rodeo)• Charges for shavings are extra and unknown at
this time• Every horse must have a stall• Access pass charge is mandatory• CTCPA rules apply• Open class- 60 second time limit• #8 class- 75 second time limit• #6 class- 75 second time limit• Unlimited entry- change on rider• #8 or #6 class riders must be members of the CTCPA

This year we had a special “Let the Kids Ride” initiative that was generously
sponsored by Best Level Construction, Beaver Truck Centre and A Maze in Corn. This enabled
youth teams to ride in more teams and only have to pay $5. This was a great initiative, I know the
kids loved it and we are sending out a great thank you to our sponsors for making it possible. We would like to do this again
in 2014 so if anyone has any ideas for sponsors please bring them to

Summary Of Past ShowsThese were our last two shows before fi nals. This is always a busy time with people trying to get all of their teams qualifi ed for fi nals. But our great hosts always make the Pennings a great experience for all.
Shirley and Jeurgen of New Country Ranch always make their penning a fun-fi lled and memorable one by supply-ing a delicious supper and entertainment! They are always great hosts, I remember one particularly hot and dusty penning at New Country Ranch when Shirley and Jeurgen off ered up their own home so people could get cleaned up and cooled off . I was disappointed that I didn’t get to attend their penning this year, it is always a great show and I know it was enjoyed by everyone who was lucky enough to go.
The penning at Chalanchuck Acres was given much nicer weather their second time around, and everyone enjoyed their new arena once again. The canteen was greatly ap-preciated and everyone loved the food, as well as those running it. After the penning everyone came together and served a fantastic potluck as well. Pasta salads galore!! And deep fried chicken wings and fries followed by great des-
serts and many other dishes. Wayne Klassen supplied the deep fryer and the idea for everybody to come together. That is what team penning is all about; we compete against each other and ride hard all day, but at the end of it all we can all come sit together and enjoy each other’s company as friends.
Finals were a success as usual, this being our biggest yet! I want to thank all the competitors for being ready to keep things moving fast as possible, and an even bigger thanks going out to all our hardworking volunteers. Timers, announcer, our secretary, gate and cattle people; the weekend would not have been possible without you and your generously given time. Thank you. I know that everyone penned their hardest and did the very best they could. Congratulations to all the big winners, I look forward to seeing everyone again at the awards banquet as well as all the prizes being given out.
