Our Mission The mission of Prescott United

    Methodist Church is to make

disciples for Jesus Christ for the

    transformation of the world.

Adopted by Church Council November 23, 2010

Who Are We As PUMC? We seek to be an active and diverse

body united through Christ, where we

    joyously contribute our gifts, deepen

our personal relationships, and live our mission.

Adopted by Charge Conference October 21, 2007

Over these past three months, I have truly gotten to understand the meaning of the word, wanderer. Post May 18, the day of my graduation ceremony from Drew Theolo- gical School, I have passed through seven states and three countries at a mighty swift pace. In this short time, I have packed up my belongings, tied up loose ends and said goodbye to friends and adopted family in New Jersey. I have visited family members, all of them, in North Carolina and spent some quality time saying goodbye to the Atlantic Ocean. I journeyed to Switzerland and then on to France to experience one of the most profound spiritual retreats that I have ever encountered. Then, lastly, I boarded a plane with a one-way ticket in my hand headed to Arizona to begin the next phase of my journey.

I love to travel, I really do, but after an extended amount of time, one grows weary of carrying life in a suitcase. I cannot express to you the joy and the immense relief that I found when entering my apartment and encountering the countless gifts from all of you, welcoming me to my new home. It was as if I was able to take a deep breath for the first time all summer. As I looked around at the Christmas-like amount of gifts in my apartment living room, I realized that I was in a place that would quickly become home. The amount of hospitality that I received from all of you, through letters, emails, gifts, invitations and simple greetings, has been profoundly important in my feeling like a part of this community.

What is so beautiful about this congregation is that this same type of hospitality can be offered to people in this congregation, to those in this area who are looking for a church home and to those who visit the services here who are just looking. I am not the only person in Prescott who has had a wild and stressful summer. I am sure that many people need the same hospitality that I received, and we are all capable of offering it! God has truly blessed this congregation with a heart for hospitality, and I am thrilled to be a part. One of my favorite theologians, Henri Nouwen, wrote about hospitality in his book, Reaching Out. In it, he wrote, Hospitality means primarily the creation of free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend. I feel like a friend to many of you already, and I am thankful that God led me to such a place as this.

    Football & Fun

    September 6 7

5 PM Friday to 2 PM on Saturday

Beginning with a quick dinner in Douglas/513, and then off to

the Prescott High School football game and to watch the marching

band perform (3 of our youth are part of the marching band this

season). Then its back to the church for snacks, games, a movie...

    who knows, then to bed.

Saturday, we will have a hardy breakfast, do some crafts, play

games and praise God in all we do.

Please bring a sleeping bag (or other bedding) for each person,

change of clothes, PJs, toiletries, a game and a snack item to share.

Cots or air mattresses are recommended, especially for the more

    mature overnighters.

Cost: $4 per person for meals and costs. Admission for the

football game is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. (Please

do not let costs keep you away. We have funds available to help.)

Pick up a registration form in the office and return it back to the

office by September 3 so that we can plan for meals.

If you just want to come for the football game and/or the

Saturday activities, please indicate that on the registration form.

Septembers Special Offering Free Wheel Chair Ministry

Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM) provides free wheelchairs to poor and disabled persons living in developing third-world countries. FWM believes that when Jesus Christ lived in this world, He had special love for the sick and disabled. They try to share the same concern now for the poor, especially those with physical immobility. The chairs are individually built from available products (like the plastic lawn chairs) and are dis- tributed free to those in need, regardless of one's religious affiliation if any. This special offering will be received on the weekend of September 21 and 22.

Its Easy!! This is an eScrip announcement

about a special program during which designated purchases at Safeway, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Dominics and Carrs stores will honor a 10% return!! through September 10. For anyone not participating in our church program, its simply a matter of checking in at Customer Service and give your name and our church I.D. number = 9609092 for their computer. Then your purchase totals will be added toward the churchs credit for the return percentage. It costs shoppers nothing, and PUMC receives automatic cash back benefits. For those already enlisted, be assured that all names have been renewed; so just keep shoppin.

For those who shop at Frys, Jean Phillips can get you started with a pre-pay card to use to purchase your groceries and continue to recharge the same card at the store, indefinitely. See Jean in Esther Fellowship Hall/510 between services on Sundays or give her a call. A reminder for all you existing card holders: dig em out and use them if you have gotten out of the habit, or get a replacement from Jean if necessary. Everybodys bit adds up.

Special thanks go to all the loyal participants who continue to use their cards to buy groceries at Frys. Its a good time to register at Safeway, also, if you shop there occasionally.
