Carter Process Control GmbH CPC NEWS Issue 7 2014 SEPTEMBER 2014 CPC was asked by a customer in Mexico to help solve a continual problem of magnetite build up in two CCI Drag Valves. The valve applications were HRH Bypass to condenser (18” x 22” Angle Valve) and HP Steam Turbine Bypass (8” x 8” Angle Valve). CPC’s solution was to upgrade the plugs to install a magnetite strainer in the plugs as can be seen below. Magnetite Upgrade Solution The strainer is designed to collect the magnetite in the plug preventing the magnetite from passing up through the balance holes and getting trapped between the plug and the guide bushing which would cause stiction to occur. In addition the gap between the plug and guide bush is modified. With this solution all magnetite is collected inside the plug and can be removed during regular maintenance.

SEPTEMBER 2014

CPC was asked by a customer in Mexico to help solve a continual problem of magnetite

build up in two CCI Drag Valves. The valve applications were HRH Bypass to condenser

(18” x 22” Angle Valve) and HP Steam Turbine Bypass (8” x 8” Angle Valve). CPC’s solution

was to upgrade the plugs to install a magnetite strainer in the plugs as can be seen below.

Magnetite Upgrade Solution

The strainer is designed to collect the magnetite in the plug preventing the magnetite

from passing up through the balance holes and getting trapped between the plug and the

guide bushing which would cause stiction to occur. In addition the gap between the plug

and guide bush is modified. With this solution all magnetite is collected inside the plug and

can be removed during regular maintenance.
