From the International Literacy Association Conference-July 2015

I had the opportunity to listen to classroom teachers Penny Kitt le and Kelly Gallagher. Ms. Kitt le introduced several strategies for keeping records of high school independent reading, and I will be tracking students reading f luency rates as an indicator of growth through our independent reading element of the curriculum.

UPCOMING PD: In April of 2015, the PDC and administrative team met to determine the district PD needs for the coming year. Unanimously, curriculum was determined the highest priority.  Realigning curriculum in a common format ensuring a viable and guaranteed curriculum was targeted as the 2015-2017 PD focus.  The team determined hiring outside curriculum consultants to review our current curriculum and take us through the step-by-step curriculum writ ing process was the best way to build the district capacity in curriculum writ ing and alignment.Several proposals were submitted and FIRED UP Presentations (http:/ /www.kdfiredup.com/ ) f it our needs best. Kristel Barr and Mary Shatford will be with us throughout the year to introduce each step of the curriculum writ ing process and guide us as we complete the work.   Of course curriculum is never a f inished product.  We will also develop a curriculum review cycle to maintain an ongoing curriculum focus.

If one room doesn't work or f it your needs, you will be able to freely move to another room.

PRESENTERS NEEDED FOR BYOD FAIR: Presenters will need to be able to demonstrate how they use BYOD in their classrooms. Presenters will need to have something put together (short PP, a Google Doc) nothing elaborate or complicated. Presenters will get paid $20/h for 2 hours
