Construction has begun on the expansion of a new batch and mix tower for the “Jiffy” baking mixes produced by Chelsea Milling Company in Chelsea,

Michigan. Todd & Sargent was awarded the contract to design, engineer, and construct the tower which will be 80’ wide x 78’ long x 104’ high.

Todd & Sargent Superintendents Robby Shell and Epifanio Gudino, General Foreman Diego Avitia; Foremen Luis Rojas-Tellez, Sam Ramos, Eric Butler, and Matt Prater; Leadmen Anibal Fuentes-Cartagena, Joaquin Dominguez-Monroy, Edgar Avitia-Molina, and Galen Payton; and crews moved on site in June. They have poured the main slab and are currently building slipforms to prepare for a late September slip.

Chelsea Milling, a fami-ly-owned business, was established in 1901 as a traditional lour mill. By early 1930, they had expanded into the retail prepared baking mix market with their irst “JIFFY” Mix product. Today, “JIFFY” is the market share leader in retail prepared mufin mixes. Their entire opera-tion is located in Chelsea, Michigan and their prod-ucts are shipped to all 50 states, as well as many foreign countries through the United States Military.

Hitting its 41st year in 2015, RAGBRAI (Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) began at the Missouri River in Sioux City, Iowa, and ended at the Mississippi River in Dubuque, Iowa. The

seven-day mileage for RAGBRAI totaled 468 miles while the daily mileage averaged 67 miles.

STAR OF THE WEST MILLING CO.

Todd & Sargent crews are busy at the new Star of the West Milling Company lour mill in Willard, Ohio. The wheat silos, a 4-pack of 32’ diameter x 137’ tall silos, were slipformed in March 2015. Capacity of these slipformed wheat silos is 337,000 bushels. The lour mill slipforming process took place the irst part of June. The mill tower is 34’ wide x 230’ long x 115’ tall and incorporates seven levels which house

the Buhler milling equipment. All loors and the roof have been poured for the mill building. Steel lour tanks have been set. Steel cone hoppers under the storage silos are complete. Equipment installation has begun in earnest throughout the facility.

Todd & Sargent would like to congratulate and thank Dennis Taggart, Todd & Sargent Field Superintendent, for 34 years of service and his hard work. His hobbies include hunting moose, elk, and deer. Dennis also enjoys farming, collecting and working on guns, and snowmobiling. Dennis has been a great dad to his two daughters Kasey, 24, and Kelly, 22, who work at the Todd & Sargent Ames ofice. When not on the job, Dennis lives on a farm in rural Jefferson, Iowa.

Scott and his wife Lisa live on a farm outside of Thayer, Iowa where they raise cattle and horses. Scott‘s hobbies include working on the farm, Farmall tractors, and Harley Davidson Motorcycles. When not on the job, Scott loves spending time with his wife Lisa, two daughters, one son, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and four precious grandkids.

West Central Coop awarded Todd & Sargent the contract to design, engineer, and construct a new SoyPlus Expeller plant at their Ralston, Iowa location.

Crews have inished the slipform activi-ties. Construction of below-grade con-crete and footings for pre-cast and pre-en-gineered buildings will begin, as well as placement of loors in the process tower.

This new plant will include a whole bean transfer system from existing grain storage, a slipformed process

tower, a pre-cast dryer and expeller building, soymeal cooling and grinding, a slipformed meal storage silo and truck loadout. Additional soy oil processing and support systems (boiler, MCC, maintenance) are also included.

Crews include Superintendent Dennis Taggart, General Foreman Jorge Ugal-de-Uribe, and Leadmen Felix Enriquez-Osornio, Rafael Alicea-DePablo, Jayson Gonzalez-Rios, Nicomendez Flores-Rosario, J. Asuncion Ugalde-Osornio, and Edgar Ugalde-Ugalde. This facility will be substantially complete the summer of 2016.

Crews are working on the inishing touches at Parrish & Heim-becker’s new inland grain terminal in Gladstone, Manitoba. The slipformed workhouse has a 343,000 bushel (9,325 tonne) capaci-ty, includes 20,000 BPH truck receiving, 40,000 BPH shipping, and a BM&M Rotary Cleaning System on the bindeck. Tie-ins were in-

stalled to ill and reclaim the annex storage and to feed a future dryer system.

Construction is underway at the new malt house for Rahr Malting Company in Shakopee, Minnesota. This slipformed concrete structure will be Rahr’s sixth malt house located at this site. This facility will provide steeping, germination, and kilning of barley malt. Crews mobilized in April. The 167’

tall germ tower was slipped in July with the 74’ kiln tower slip taking place in August. Crews are currently in the process of pouring interior walls and loors to allow equipment installation to begin.

Malting operations are support-ed by their barley procurement and distribution facility located in Taft, North Dakota.

HEARTLAND CO-OP// LOCATION >

FAIRFIELD, IA

Todd & Sargent is proud to have constructed the new Heartland Co-op shuttle train loading facility in Fairield, Iowa. The slipformed structure consists of four silos with 890,000 bushels of storage, a screenings bin, a 4,000 bushel rail loadout surge bin, two “off-spec” grain interstice bins, and an 85,000 bushel wet grain bin.  Total storage is approximately 1,030,000 bushels.  This facility includes three 30,000 BPH bucket elevators routing grain from the two truck receiving pits and a third auxiliary truck/rail unload pit to the top ill system. The facility also incorporates dust aspiration equipment, scalping, screening, and 80,000 BPH reclaim and rail loadout system. Considerations have also been made for Heartland Co-op’s 7,000 BPH dryer system and steel bin storage annex.
