Interested in getting involved in this wonderful program? Please prayerfully con-sider if God may be calling you to the important and beautiful ministry of being a Faith Formation Catechist or volunteer. Our goal is to have two catechists in every classroom for K-6th grade. It is a wonderful gift to the young people and it is an amazing way to grow and learn your faith as well. Please email Jeanne at jchambers @archdpdx.org.

This weekend we celebrate Christ’s activity in our parish’s time, talent and treasure at the annual Ministry Faire (aka Opportunity Weekend). Activities and organizations represent how we minster to one another in the Body of Christ. As we join our parishioners in the courtyard after Mass we gain a better appreciation for how each of us is called to “win salvation for each other” through our gifts of wisdom, wealth and work. Concurrent with this annual Ministry Faire, we are launching our Capital Cam-paign with a message and a video. We will begin recitation of our campaign prayer after all the Sunday Masses over the next few months; and we will be

highlighting the compelling need to complete Phase I of our Master Plan of 2013. All parishioners will receive this week a CASE statement and letter describing God’s plan and goal.

To date we have raised $2 million towards the cost of the welcome center. Over the last two years, our leadership has made great progress since our last pledge campaign (2016-2019):

1. We have obtained design approval from the City of Gresham for Phases I, II, and III. 2. We have contracted with the Steier Group through the summer to lead our campaign. 3. Soderstron Architects of Portland are completing the design for city permits. 4. We are including the church and office roof as part of this Phase I, much needed. 5. We have formed a Campaign Cabinet and Building Committee to oversee the progress. 6. We are in the process of contracting a project manager to oversee completion of Phase I. 7. We have engaged a “silent campaign” in the month of August to secure significant initial

pledges. 8. We hope to unveil in late 2019, the timeline for the completion of the Welcome Center.

A reminder about the history of the original plan (always a need and a dream) in 1963: At that time there were insufficient funds to complete the entryway and welcome center. The next attempt in late 1980’s fell short of goal, so original plan was not completed. Now: We are again preparing to complete the original dream in Phase I, followed by Phases II and III. Phase I continues to be the keystone stage in preparing the smaller projects of Phase II (the gym and commercial kitchen) and Phase III (restructuring the parking lot and driveways). Over the last nine years, we have not idly ig-nored the parish center (school and gym) but have made needed improvements of nearly $600,000.

What needs will be met with Phase I? Beautiful space worthy of God’s house; outreach to the broader community and the poor; identifiable welcome area, entry/exit; needed preparation and staging area for weddings, funerals, events, receptions; service kitchen and expanded ADA rest-rooms/doorways, overflow seating and family room during Mass; flexible, multipurpose area for re-treats, meetings, music practice (5 choirs); needed socializing area. Our parish is growing as noted by the increase in baptisms, weddings, first communions, daily Mass attendees, and increase in numbers for faith formation.

A prayerful thought: This is God’s plan, God’s house and our home. Let’s make it happen: Sooner rather than later.

The days are getting shorter and it’s time to start thinking about indoor activities again. Dinner for Eight is a four-month program (Oct-Jan) in which you will be shar-ing dinner (or brunch or luncheon) with three different couples once each month. You will be the host couple one month deciding on the format and making the entrée, and the guest couple the other three months preparing the appetizer, salad or dessert. Couples (married or single couples made up of two friends) will be randomly placed in groups. The fun and enjoyment are limited only by your imagination. We have a table at the Ministry Faire where you can sign up, and as a special attrac-

tion; our group will be hosting an Open Night on Friday, September 13th at 5:30PM in the Fireside Room. Come and join us for some appetizers and wine and let us tell you all about it. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Steve Solcz 503.367.8483 or [email protected] regarding this sociable parish program.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the Mother and Child “Change for Change” campaign spon-sored by the Catholic Daughters. Over $2,100.00 was collected from the bottles that were handed out. This will go a long way to helping young mothers and babies. God bless you for your generous giving. Thanks also, to the Right to Life Committee who helped hand out the bottles after the Masses.

Empty Nesters Bunco is coming up on Friday, October 11 in the Fireside Room. Time is 6pm to 9 pm. The cost is only $7 for a night of good fun with lite refresh-ments. Excellent prizes for the night. Come join us. Call Shirley at 503-618-9923 and let het know you’ll be there.
