One them is riding in the children’s saddle his Mom began riding in and the other is riding in the saddle his Dad began riding in. Their parents are Troy and Janelle (Shanks) Bargmann. Proud grandpa & grandma from Nashua are Dennis and Janice Shanks. These little horses are the real deal. The registered matched pair has also pulled the boys, their Dad, Troy, and Grandpa Delbert Bargmann in a buckboard wagon in the Medora Parade of Horses. When Stetson was a sked how much his little pony was worth, without hesitation, he piped up and told the Sully Creek Campground manager, “$9,100.” That made his Grandpa Bargmann (who had purchased the miniatures for their grandkids) pretty proud. In the next breath Stetson said, “You don’t have enough money.” The boys have already rode their mini’s in the Dickinson Rough Riders Youth Rodeo and the Killdeer Youth Rodeo earlier this spring, winning seven trophies between them. Garett earned enough points at the Dickinson Rodeo to take home the 2013 Championship Breast Collar for boys ages 0-11. Little horses for Little Cowboys

Te thunderstorms didn’t show up in time Friday night to hamper Glasgow rom wreaking havoc onGlendive to kick o the Scotty ootball season.

Aer a slow start — the score was tied at six apieceheading into the second quarter — the Scotties wouldgo on a rip-n-tear rom there, leading 25-6 at halimein going on to win 47-14 over the Class A Red Devils.

Behind a great O-line, the Scotties racked up 348yards in total oense. Jonny Koessl, Jason Tibaultand Chase Fossum all had a pair o touchdowns whileTibault also connected on a pair o D passes, hittingFossum rom nine yards out and another to LachlanVaira or 24 yards. Tibault’s quarterback keeperscovered 40 and 45 yards into the end zone. annerRoness was good on three PAs, and Koessl caught the

Red Devils in their end zone in the third quarter or asaety.

Looking around the District 2B, Malta and Huntley Project battled it out with the host Red Devils overcomingan 8-0 rst-quarter decit to nip the Mustangs 14-8 witha touchdown and saety in the ourth quarter.

Te Plentywood Wildcats lost a wild one to theColstrip Colts 27-20, and Baker easily handled Wol Point 49-8. Te Spartans led the Wolves 34-8 at halimeand rounded out their scoring in the third period.Baker chalked up 394 yards rushing while the Wolvescommitted our turnovers including a umble andthree interceptions, one that was returned 73 yardsor a touchdown by Jordan Walker, who is also thequarterback or the Spartans.

Te Scotties will be on the road to ace Baker thisFriday night. Kick-o is at 7:00. Teir last meeting wasa 16-13 Spartan victory played on Scotty Field in thequarternals o the Class B Playos.

Te ollowing Friday, September 20th, is Scotty Homecoming with Shelby. Te Coyotes are currently 2-0 with wins over Choteau and Plains and will likely be3-0 as they are scheduled to play Harlem this Friday.

Countryside gets juiced back up

While only 0.18 inch o rain ell during the entiremonth o August (14th driest on record), Glasgow hasalready received 1.53 in September thanks to a low pressure system that blanketed northeast Montana overthe weekend. AS ar as the ash ood warnings that wereissued by the National Weather Service, particularly onSaturday, we dodged a bullet here compared to otherareas. Up in northern Valley County there were reports

o water over roads in some areas that got pelted withthree inches o rain over a very short period o time.As the upper level low pressure system exits our

region, the chances or showers and thunderstormsshould diminish by this evening, and a dry orecastlooks to stick around until the end o the work week.

During WWII, U.S.airplanes were armedwith belts o bullets whichthey would shoot duringdogghts and on strangruns.

Tese belts wereolded into the wingcompartments that edtheir machine guns. Tesebelts measure 27 eet andcontained hundreds o

rounds o bullets.Oen times, the

pilots would returnrom their missionshaving expended all o their bullets on varioustargets. Tey would say,“I gave them the wholenine yards,” meaningthey used up all o theirammunition.

Early aircraf throttles had a ball on theend o it. In order to go

ull throttle, the pilot hadto push the throttle all theway orward into the wallo the instrument panel.Hence “balls to the wall”or going very ast. Andnow you know the rest o the story.

Did you know?Old pilot terms are still in use today
