Can’t believe how fast the summer has passed. But thenagain, the past couple of months have been a blur for me. Hope to see everyone at the upcoming ETLA events,

including the East Texas State Fair later in the month. Also, in November the Kaufman Police Assocation longhorn show. Both extremely great events to attend and participate in. YOUTH - may I have your attention please - their will be a

ETLA YOUTH meeting at the East Texas State Fair, duringthe meeting you will be electing your YOUTH officers, discussing upcoming fundraisers and educational events. Please plan to be there. Also, there’s still time left to be a sponsor of either of the

shows or both. Without great sponsors like yourself it’s veryhard to continue the shows. Don’t forget to send in your newsletter information and I

hope to see you up and down the road - let me know how Ican assist you.

When Dr. Tim Roddam was in aleadership team meeting at hischurch and somehow the conversation turned to Texas Long-horn cattle, Staff Pastor Seth J.Elbe mentioned that he would likehis children to have the opportunity of getting “up closeand personal” with some Longhorns. Immediately, Dr. Timbegan putting together a Longhorn event, and on August 2,Pastor Seth and Sara Elbe and chil-dren Jones and Kamdyn joinedwith friends from Naples, FL visit-ing over the weekend, Angel andLeslie Ortiz and their childrenAden and Tyler, for a full morn-ing devoted to discovering Longhorns.

First, the group toured Marquess Arrow Ranch near BenWheeler, TX where gracious host andhostess Ron and Barb Marquessloaded the group onto two golf cartsand set out for the pasture. This crashcourse in Longhorns orientation in-cluded a presentation by Ron on the advancesin cloning that have taken his andBarb’s program to “the cutting edge.”

From the Marquess Arrow Ranchand after a few stops at points andpeople of interest along the way, thechildren actually got to work with apen of heifers near Murchison, TXowned by the Roddam Family and gottheir pictures made with a halteredcalf complete with brush and showstick. The next day at church, the two families were still aglow with the thrillof the previous day and hope to haveother opportunities to interface withLonghorns in the future.
