Writings from Fr. Walter…

Proud. Who Me?

We live in the midst of a society that yanks us in different directions. Newspaper ads call for us to see what other people want to sell. Rather than saying, “call,” better words might be either “demand” or even “tempt.” Society can certainly be recognized often enough as bombarding us with so much tempta-tion. How many people buy things that they do not even need! And more than ads in newspapers tempt us. People we meet, TV and radio shows, and now even the Internet “tempt” us; and not only to buy something, but even what to believe and even how to think. Why should we not simply admit that what other people and groups often want us to believe, in turn, runs contrary time and time again to what the Roman Catholic Church teaches? People, especially young people, are frequently tempted to live in a manner clearly unhealthy. So, the task for all of us is to find a way that enables us to stay focused through what is indeed a truly complex and troubling situation. The first question to examine is to see what we are currently focused on, and perhaps even to ask what we want to be focused on. Are we focused at all? If we are not focused on anything, then we are living in a way not all that different from a pin ball bouncing off whatever stands in its path. If this is our current assessment of ourselves, we would have to agree then that we are very susceptible to any kind of tempting influence. This wouldn't be true if we were to be focused on a positive goal that we want to reach, or a positive direction that we would like to have in life. If we were to keep a positive “bull’s eye” firmly in our sights, then we are not bothered so much by the different influences that cross our path. Why would we? At this point we would know where we want to go. We know what we want and we are capable of ignoring all that which doesn't lead to it. God wants us to be focused on Him, specifically. This theme is found throughout the Scriptures. Just recently we have been hearing in the Old Testament about how God led His people out of Egypt . He was described by the Chosen People as a fire by night and a cloud by day. People reached their goal of the Promised Land precisely by being focused on Him in whatever form He manifested to them. Jesus, in turn, wants to lead us toward the goal of a better quality life, beginning now and later finding fulfill-ment in Heaven. This becomes our Promised Land, the end result of our own escape from slavery into freedom. I repeat. Following the way of Christ doesn't only mean that we may end up in Heaven some-day. Rather, we start to see, to feel, and to know our freedom we get by experiencing God now. We can experience Him through His Graces of joy and insight by following Him devotedly with our whole hearts. But if we are to have such experiences of freedom, we need to focus. After all, how can we expe-rience such Graces if our energies are scattered in a million directions, wanting so much as we do? For us to be open to the experience of God, we must first and foremost want God for Himself. If we do, then God Himself becomes our goal. If God is our goal, then we will decide to live in such a way that allows us to remain focused on Him. His teachings become our primary path by conscious choice. At this point nothing can possibly distract us as all we can see – is God.

Peace, Fr. Walter

ALTAR FLOWERS

Remembering Jesus’ Message of Divine Mercy…

St. Faustina Writes in her diary

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church …

August 5, 1935 (Feast of O.L. of Mercy) “… Then I saw the Blessed Virgin unspeakably beautiful. She came down from the altar to my kneeler, held me close to herself and said to me, ’I am Mother to you all, thanks to the unfathomable mer-cy of God. Most pleasing to me is that soul which faithfully carries out the Will of God. Be courageous. Do not fear ap-parent obstacles… fix your gaze on the Passion of My Son…’ “

(Diary #449)

“Mary’s role in the Church is inseparable from her un-ion with Christ and flows directly from it.. ’This union of the Mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal concep-tion up to his death;’ it is made manifest above all at the hour of his passion’ “ (Lumen Gentium 58; ccc# 964)

An intimate message from God to you…

My Child,You may not know me, but I know everything about you. (1) I know when you sit down and when you rise up. (2) I am familiar with all your ways. (3) Even the very hairs on your head are numbered. (4) For you were made in my image. (5) In me you live and move and have your being, for you are my offspring. (6) I knew you even before you were conceived. (7) I chose you when I planned creation. (8) You were not a mistake, for all your days are written in my book. (9) I determined the exact time of your birth and where you would live. (10) You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (11) I knit you together in your mother's womb. (12) And brought you forth on the day you were born. (13) I have been misrepresented by those who don't know me. (14) I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love. (15) And it is my desire to lav-ish my love on you. Simply because you are my child and I am your Father. (16) I offer you more than your earthly father ever could. (17) For I am the perfect father. (18) Every good gift that you receive comes from my hand. (19) For I am your provider and I meet all your needs. (20) My plan for your future has always been filled with hope. (21) Because I love you with an everlasting love. (22) My thoughts toward you are countless as the sand on the seashore. (23) And I rejoice over you with singing. (24) I will never stop doing good to you. (25) For you are my treasured possession. (26) I desire to establish you with all my heart and all my soul. (27) And I want to show you great and marvelous things. (28) If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me. (29) Delight in me and I will give you the desires of your heart. (30) For it is I who gave you those desires. (31) I am able to do more for you than you could possibly imagine. (32) For I am your great-est encourager. (33) I am also the Father who comforts you in all your troubles. (34) When you are broken-hearted, I am close to you. (35) As a shepherd carries a lamb, I have carried you close to my heart. (36) One day I will wipe away every tear from your eyes. And I'll take away all the pain you have suffered on this earth. (37) I am your Father, and I love you even as I love my son, Jesus. (38) For in Jesus, my love for you is revealed. (39)He is the exact representation of my being. (40) He came to demonstrate that I am for you, not against you. (41) And to tell you that I am not counting your sins.

Jesus died so that you and I could be reconciled. (42) His death was the ultimate expression of my love for you. (43) I gave up everything I loved that I might gain your love. (44) If you receive the gift of my son Je-sus, you receive me. (45) And nothing will ever separate you from my love again. (46) Come home and I'll throw the biggest party heaven has ever seen. (47) I have always been Father, and will always be Father. (48) My question is… Will you be my child? (49) I am waiting for you. (50).

Love, Your Dad, Almighty God.
