Last week was the final installment of my report about our latest statue, that of the founder of the Congregation of Marians, recently canonized (made a saint), Saint Stanislaus Papczynski. The statue has indeed already been blessed and, as of this writing, permanently installed in the chapel dedicated to the Blessed Mother behind our main altar. I did offer in the pastor page some historical background a few weeks back about his life and relationship to the Marians. As a reminder, Fr. Al, Fr. Tony, Fr. Ron and myself are all Marians, members of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception. With objective historical facts now shared, we can ask about his relevancy. What meaning can we get from his life? He was a human being, with the same desires that all of us have. He lived in turbulent political times, I guess like we do now. Yet in all of this, he showed that one could dedicate oneself to God and because of this commitment, find oneself ful-filled. With God, and the service to others which a true dedication to God brings about, nothing else carries the same fasci-nation that perhaps they once did. This means that one’s life is now complete. There is nothing missing from it. With this satisfaction settled, now other pos-sibilities of one’s life can be considered. You might remember the six needs of Strategic Intervention, developed by Tony Robbins and Cloe Madanes (of family therapy fame), that I discussed one time before. I repeat them again. 1. Variety, 2. Certainty, 3. Love and Connection, 4. Significance, 5. Growth, 6. Contribution. These needs must be satisfied if one is to enjoy real happiness. Of importance here is the teaching from Strategic Intervention that the first four needs are necessary for basic human satis-faction. However, the last two needs are of a more spiritual nature. And this last two needs are what improves the quality of our lives. If one does not grow, for example, one will die. And the power behind this statement applies just as strongly to contribution, the final need. The quality of my life improves immeasurably when I can contribute, or better yet, give back to my fellow human beings. These needs could be seen as satisfied in the life of Saint Stanislaus. He knew both variety and certainty. He knew love and contribution a result of being the founder of the Congregation of Marians by which he could live out his religious life with others. He knew significance in the same way, from living out his role as the founder of a religious order. Now let’s look at the last two needs. Through his experiences in life, the turmoil that came about from his prior membership in another reli-gious order and then leaving it, finding in himself the creativity in developing a new religious order, he experienced what it was like to contribute to his society. He grew in his relationship with God and learned just how creative he could be in writ-ing about God, considering that he wrote many books about God and the Blessed Mother. Finally, he knew contribution in that he was famous in Polish society as a preacher, as well someone who could write about God with an eloquence equal to his power of his preaching. He even ministered to Kings, Archbishops, and Bishops. Finally, he disproved the prejudicial notion that one cannot have a satisfied life as a religious priest. St. Stanislaus not only lived a satisfied life, he lived a more satisfied life than many of his contemporaries. Be patient under trial, as the Bible tells us. Be patient under God’s loving care. God repays those who love Him in manifold ways. The saints know exactly what this means. St. Stanislaus knew this meaning intimately.

Blessings, Fr. Walter!

ANNIVERSARY WISHES

Remembering Jesus’ Message of Divine Mercy…

St. Faustina Writes in her diary

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church …

“A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat. In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray. A soul pure and beautiful must pray, or lose it’s beauty; a soul striving after purity must pray or will not attain it; a soul newly converted must pray or else fall again, a sinful soul must pray that it might rise again… every single grace comes to the soul through prayer.” (Diary #146)

“The habitual difficulty in prayer is distraction… to set about hunting down distractions would be to fall into their trap, when all that is necessary is to turn back to our heart: for a distraction reveals to us what we are attracted, and this humble awareness before the Lord should awaken our preferential love for him… theirin lies the battle, the choice of which master to serve.” (ccc:#2720)

As Our Lady of Peace Parish enters the New Year, we are busily making prep-arations for our liturgies to proclaim the “Good News” of the Gospel. Over the years it has become apparent that the sound system, a major backbone of all that we do in ministering to the needs of this parish, is in dire need of atten-tion. In recent years it has been showing its age, with periodic pops, crackles, and noise. There have been many complaints that it is difficult to hear and understand the spoken or sung Word, especially in the back of the Church, during Mass and other functions. In order to continue enriching lives through Parish Liturgies, a new sound system is needed. We are confident that the new system proposed by Kevin Shaw and The AV Church is the ideal choice and will greatly enhance the religious ceremonies at Our Lady of Peace Parish. The proposed system will cost approximately $50,000.00, which will include complete installation, adjustments, and training. Since the sound system is an urgent, and not a regular, church budgetary item, we are asking for your support.

Please consider matching your weekly offertory gift to the Parish with a gift to the “To Hear Thee More Clearly” sound system fund.

If you can afford more than your weekly offertory, that would be an additional blessing to our Parish.

You may find envelopes in the vestibule of the Church after Masses, or contact the Parish Office to make your generous gift. Please make checks payable to:

Our Lady of Peace and write “Sound System” on the memo portion of the check.

The sound system is a major backbone of our liturgical celebrations including daily Masses, Sunday Liturgies, Weddings, Baptisms, First Holy Communions, Confirmations, Funerals, Prayer Services and many more. We pray that you will help us make this exciting vision a reality.

Thank you for your time, generosity and prayers regarding this matter.

TUITION ASSISTANCEAs we begin the registration process for the coming school year, I want to let current and futureparents know that there are a couple of ways you can receive tuition assistance. The Catholic Ed-ucation Foundation (CEF) gives thousands of dollars of tuition assistance to students in schoolsall across the Diocese of Joliet. This past school year, our school had the most students receivetuition assistance that we ever had. We had 13 children received tuition assistance for a total of$9,100 this school year. If there is a need by a family, CEF wants to help each child go to a Catho-lic school.

Not only do our students receive tuition assistance from CEF, but they also receive help from ourparish as well. This school year, our parish has assisted families with $19,218 through matchingtuition grants and other help.
