SES versus Victoria English School Rounders MatchThe Year 5 and 6 Rounders club competed in their first ever Rounders match against Victoria English School on Monday 22nd March. The standard of fielding and batting by our school teams was excellent and both teams romped to victory! It was a great opportunity for the children to put their skills to the test and they were thrilled with the results!Scores

SES versus Sheffield SchoolOnce again the Rounders club came out in force to test their skills against another school. The 30th March proved to be more of a challenge for the teams as they had to play against teams from older year groups. This however did not dampen their enthusiasm and the teams played with skill and style! Once again the playing standard was high and many were impressed by their performances. The children in this year’s Rounders Club deserve praise for the progress they have made and their commitment to the weekly practices. Two senior teams (Year 8 and 9) also competed successfully and Sharjah once again felt victorious!Scores

Year 5 & 6 Netball Our Year 5 & 6 netball stars played friendly matches against Uptown recently, here at S.E.S. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and were particularly pleased with the results: the Year 5 team drew 2 all . The Year 6s won by the impressive margin of 7 goals to 1. Well done to all the girls who took part! A huge thank you must go to the parents and siblings who came along to support so enthusiastically.Miss Smith

Year  6  Spring  Netball  TournamentThe  Year  6  girls  showed  off  their  skills  at  the  D.E.S.S  Spring  Netball  Tournament  last  week.  All  of  the  girls  played  their  socks  off  and  had  a  fun-‐packed  afternoon  of  netballing  action!

The  girls  came  in  >ifth  in  their  round  and  were  truly  a  fantastic  representation  of  the  rising  sporting  talent  at  S.E.S.    Beating  NIBRAS  6  goals  to  0  was  a  highlight  for  the  girls  and  gave  them  a  well  deserved  con>idence  boost.    Another  top  moment  was  drawing  2  all  with  D.B.S.    The  girls  had  a  few  very  close  games:  they  were  beaten  by  JPS  5  –  2,  JESS  Jumeirah  2  -‐1,  D.E.S.S  2  2  -‐1  and  BSAK  4  –  3.    Throughout  all  of  their  games  the  girls  worked  extremely  well  together  and  never  gave  up  their  true  >ighting  spirit.

It  was  fantastic  to  see  the  girls’  talent  being  recognized  throughout  the  afternoon  with  Charlotte,  Georgie,  Kyra  and  Natasha  being  awarded  Player  of  the  Match.    Charlotte  received  Player  of  the  Match  three  times  –  go  Charlotte!

Miss  Welsh  and  I  are  extremely  happy  with  the  progress  the  girls  have  made  since  the  Christmas  tournament  that  they  participated  in;  the  standard  of  play  has  really  developed.    Well  done  girls  –  you’ve  really  stepped  up  your  game  to  the  next  level!

Senior Netball LeagueWe have finally come to the end of yet another successful season for the netball teams at SES. There have been ups and downs along the way but each and every team worked hard, demonstrating teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play throughout the season. We won’t know the final positions until later this month but congratulations to all the girls involved, including those Year 6 players who had the opportunity to play for the Year 7 team and gained valuable experience. A special thank you to our four team captains: Year7 Safiya, Year 8 Agni, Year 9 Harini and Year 10  Rae who ensured that the teams remained focused and on target in each and every match.

SES finish 6th

The Sharjah English School U14 rugby team finished a very creditable 6th position in the Dubai Schools League. For most it was their first experience of playing in such a competitive schools league as they learned much about themselves and their determination. For most of the games, SES demonstrated very good technical skill particularly in the set pieces and good possessional play. Many of the players have now gone on to clubs to improve further their ability. Congratulations also goes to Lucas Oakeley and Joshua Southworth. Representing the U14 Hurricanes, Dubai they won the league title beating Abu Dhabi in what was a tough encounter with both teams playing good rugby.

KS3 Swimming Galas 2010During the first week back after the Easter holidays the PE department ran three mini swimming galas for each of the year groups in Key Stage 3. These mini galas proved to be extremely successful and provided some very close results. Bonus points were given to houses for showing teamwork and individual leadership skills and for demonstrating specific technical skills during certain races such as tumble turns. This all added to the excitement and indeed final results. Students who were unable to swim took on the roles of official recorders and judges ensuring everyone took part on some level. As you will see from the breakdown of results in the table below, Lawrence were the overall KS3 winners, with only a few points separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and that each individual mini gala was won by a different house.
