Session IV

Installation and Technical Support Issues

Page 2: Session IV

Licensing

• Tools – User Manager

Page 3: Session IV

Licensing – too many users

• Change of machine name• Remote desktop turned on with XP• Disconnect instead of logout on terminal

services• Abnormal shutdown

Page 4: Session IV

Licensing – clear users

• Login / logout from same machine name• Logout terminal services session• Call us• Email halsys.lic to [email protected]

Page 5: Session IV

NT/2000/XP Rights• User should be power user or

administrator of local machine• Use Control Panel – User Accounts or

Users and Passwords• Allows users to:

– Save scanner settings– Save hit list formatting– Store edit duplicates setting– Keep last application, database, and

basket

Page 6: Session IV

Internet and halFILE

• Internet Service Providers configure for 100% up-time

• halFILE requires local DNS so if only DNS is provided from the Internet then halFILE is down if Internet is down

• Login issues on 2000/XP• Run a local DNS server• Setup WINS resolution• Use local hosts file• Test

Page 7: Session IV

Moving halFILE• Any change of location (Path, server, or

share) even if names are the same.• Change basket path• Change configure drives• From all stations run \\server\share\folder\

hfw20.exe /regserver or g:\folder\hfw20.exe /regserver to avoid error 48 when exiting modules

Page 8: Session IV

Delete Document• Configure –

Security – User Profiles

• Double click user

• Double click database in right-hand panel

• Click extended settings

Page 9: Session IV

NAS / Image Storage

• Windows based NAS (i.e. Dell PowerVault)

• Unlimited users• Domain / active directory support• Hot swappable drives• Fault tolerance – RAID5

Page 10: Session IV

halFILE Printer

• We finally got it right !! • Unfortunately, no one has an easy way

to install it.• We have added a menu to the

administrator to easily install this feature from each workstation.

Page 11: Session IV

Where is that feature?

• Base Edit Utility– On the fly– File Tables

• Tools Import• Associated Import

Page 12: Session IV

TWAIN vs. WIA Scanning• WIA has limited functionality compared to

TWAIN• WIA designed specifically for the Scanner and

Camera Wizard• Limited number of devices (especially production

level) are distributing WIA drivers• Our TWAIN scanning module is capable of

communicating with a WIA driver but using TWAIN provides more functionality including resolution and image quality control

Page 13: Session IV

halFILE Viewer Issues• B&W instead of color display

– View – Scale – Optimize (Ctrl+O)• Can’t zoom or copy/paste after using annotation tool

– Tools – Select Annotation – None• SharpDesk Imaging

– Need special version of halviewer.dll from us• Imaging Pro 1.1

– Not supported – images will disappear upon zoom• Only prints first page of doc

– Patches available for Imaging Pro 2.6 on our cd• Get printer dialog when I email document

– Allows you to select pages to email. Just ignore printer selection.

Page 14: Session IV

TWAIN Scanning Issues

• UNC Paths now supported in TWAIN– Tools Options (set TempDirectory)

• 380 invalid property value after clicking save settings and getting out and back in scan module has been fixed

• Invalid function call or capability data is not supported– Running hftwain32.exe instead of hftwain32pro.exe

• Appears to lock up on stapling (F5)– Set scan station id– Station ID can be set from administrator

Page 15: Session IV

Common Error Messages

• String or binary data would be truncated– Information in a field is too long– We will tell you which field in 2.2

• 380 errors or missing screens– Screens sized too small and module was

closed– Older search versions on XP– Reset windows option in 2.2

Page 16: Session IV

Common Error Messages

• Error converting character string to date/time– Set Date Format Tools Options menu of

administrator– Change regional settings to 4 digit year without

day of week for short and long date formats• Control not connected

– Delete kimgp32.ini from windows directory or 2.2 upgrade

Page 17: Session IV

Unexpected Behaviors• Changing printers in halFILE sets that printer as

the default printer– Requirement for Imaging For Windows

• Get in without a user id or password– If first user alphabetically does not have a password set

• Ctrl+S but nothing happens– Invalid code in a field. Tab through each field until you get

an error– Nothing was changed on the update screen– New search module to resolve issues with memo fields

Page 18: Session IV

Unexpected Behaviors

• Slower scanning after upgrade– Check resolution and make sure its 200 DPI– Check image size and make sure it is a Group IV

Tiff• Minimize terminal services session and return

and search and index screens look odd– 2.2 upgrade will resolve

Page 19: Session IV

Report Issues

• Reports chop data to 255 characters– 2.2 upgrade– Create schema.ini for 2.1

• Errors 533, 534, 599– Report not yet upgraded– Need to verify database inside Crystal Reports– Not using halreports.dsn– Out of date report32.exe

• Crystal 9– halFILE installs Crystal 8.5 runtime. – If your reports are Crystal 9.x than Crystal 9.x needs to be

installed on the workstation from cd

Page 20: Session IV

Installation Issues

• Older 95/98 boxes that were essentially original install with no updates

• MDAC failed due to mix of versions on a machine

• Recommend using Windows Update regularly• Security check failed

– Re-select application and database dropdowns and exit

Page 21: Session IV

Improve Performance

• Workstation CPU Speed• Increase memory at workstation• Server CPU / Memory• Budget PC (great performance)

– Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 256 MB of RAM• Powerful PC (outstanding performance)

– Pentium 4 3.2 GHz with 512 MB of RAM

Page 22: Session IV

halFILE Update Service

• One-time registration process via the Internet

• Everyone needs to be out of system• One PC performs the update. Other station

get updated when halFILE is launched• Requires high speed connection

(DSL/Cable)
