You – the PKF – have reached the topand together we reap the fruits of previous hard work.Last year we made a few recordings for prestigiouslabels and they have been enthusiastically received. The orchestra’s reputation has been strengthened. Our collaboration with the Royal Opera in Oman as their orchestra in residence has been deepened.During our USA tour we visited more than fifteen cities!Around the world, the PKF – Prague Philharmoniaenjoys the reputation of a virtuoso orchestra offeringexcellent performances; an orchestra capable of elegant phrasing, unique sound and absolutecommitment to music.

My personal and artistic experience with the PKFplayers gets more rewarding and encouraging by the day. It has been a great honour for me to havethe opportunity to get to know Prague and its inspiringaudiences better. Our hope is that you will enjoy ourconcerts as much as we enjoy preparing them for you.We look forward to sharing our passion for music withyou in the upcoming 2017–2018 season.

the Human Voice and Legacy of Beethoven

With the motto ‘Captivating’, the PKF – PraguePhilharmonia enters its 24th season, paying tribute to the human voice and Ludwig van Beethoven’s oeuvre. In contrast with the last instrumental season, in this year’sPKF programme shine a number of names of outstandingsingers, regular guests at world-renowned opera stages. With the second pivotal theme running through the programme the orchestra returns to its roots, to the key PKF repertoire, the so called Viennese School.Altogether nine of Beethoven’s orchestral works will adornthis season, including four symphonies. The master piece ‘The Creation’ by Joseph Haydn, Beethoven’s teacher, will be also performed. Another area of attention will beBeethoven’s modern legacy in the works of the Viennesecircle; namely Richard Strauss, Anton Webern, Alban Berg and Alexander Zemlinsky. Excursions into the 20th and 21st centuries and the works of Benjamin Britten, Luciano Berio, Bohuslav Martinů and the contemporaryCzech composer Ondřej Štochl will bring a breath of freshair. A new PKF – Prague Philharmonia season – different, unique, ‘Captivating‘.

Word — Poem — song Make reservations for Monday evenings with the PKF –Prague Philharmonia! The Chamber Series at the CzechMuseum of Music offers ten concerts with distinctprogramming that spans centuries and genres. As usual, the (K) series is a show of virtuosity and the art of teamworkof the PKF players and their guests, jointly the mainprotagonists of chamber evenings. A half of the series’concerts will reflect the dominant theme of the season – the human voice. You may look forward to the musical-theatrical project of early Baroque songs Usurpator tiranno,as well as the arrangements of Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder formezzo-soprano and string quartet and Shakespeare’ssonnets set to music. Among the purely instrumentalprogrammes we’d like to bring to attention the eveningswith the popular Dvořák Trio, the Zeiher Quartett and theclosing concert that focuses on Baroque oboe concertos.Alongside compositions by Couperin, Monteverdi, J. S. Bachor Haydn we shall hear music by Janáček, Novák and PetrEben. We have a new offer – a family ticket for the (K) series.By instilling the love of chamber music in your children, you may create a spring board for symphonic concerts!

The musicologist Martina Sermain will be guiding the audiencesthrough the concerts.

CHILdren’s CLuB notIČKA

NOTIČKA was founded by the PKF – Prague Philharmonia elevenyears ago, with the aim of providing young audiences of popularconcerts with an even stronger and more intense contact withclassical music and art.

Five to six weekend gatherings a year are organised by NOTIČKA,focusing not only on music and musical education, but providingalso an opportunity for children to develop their aestheticalsensitivity, experience something unique and learn many new facts.

This year’s theme is searching for music in other forms of art. The term petrified or frozen music will be explained, and also thatrhythm can be found in paintings and sculptures. Theatre and musicin theatre will be explored. We shall learn the difference betweenopera, ballet and musical and to conclude through a session of music therapy will find out whether music can heal.

The project is aimed at children 4 to 14 years old.Notička prep for children 3-4 years old.

We welcome new friends. If you want to join in, have a look at ourwebsite www.pkf.cz/noticka-club or contact our club coordinatorHana Zaalová.

PKF – Prague PhilharmoniaYou may know the orchestra as the Prague Chamber Philharmonia, the original name chosen by the ensemble’s founder, Jiří Bělohlávek. With his youthful orchestra he spent thirteen long and beautifulyears and his legacy is to this day heard in the ensemble’s accurateand idiomatic playing, in the perfect execution of details, in the waythe players communicate with their audience and in the zestemanating from each note played. Next year the PKF will celebrateits 25th anniversary. The number of concerts at home and abroad is increasing. The orchestra travels to destinations such as the USA,China and Oman and is enthusiastically received everywhere. Wemake CD recordings with star soloists. Why not join our audience‘family’ and share with us the unique atmosphere of our concerts?

Music is part and parcel of my life, of ourlives. I cannot imagine a better base forsharing this passion than I have at the PKFand a more beautiful city than Prague.
