Feed Dogs, why are they so important?

Feed.dogs.are.the.workhorse.that.pull.material.through.the.machine..Not.all.are.created.equal,.but.all.have.the.same.job..

One.of.the.biggest.problems.I.see.with.feed.dogs.failing.is.when.small.piles.of.debris.are.left.to.build.up.over.time.under.the.needle.plate.restricting.the.height.the.feed.dogs.can.travel..This.in.turn.creates.other.bigger.problems..Restricting.the.travel.of.the.feed.dogs.will.make.the.machine.feel.sluggish,.and.most.of.the.time..we.are.inclined.to.help.the.machine.along.and.give.the.material.some.help.moving.through.the.machine....Pulling.fabric.will.deflect.the.needle.into.the.needle.plate..This.will.nick.or.scar.the.plate.causing.burrs,.which.will.break.or.shred.your.thread,.or.even.cause.skipped.stitches.on.a.zig-zag.or.decorative.stitch...

So.how.do.we.avoid.this.problem.from.re-accuring?.It.depends.on.the.material.and.the.frequency.of.sewing...If.you.are.using.material.that.will.put.out.a.lot.“fuzz”.and.debris.like.terry.or.batting.then.you.must.clean.your.machine.more.often....It.usually.does.not.take.long.to.check.just.to.be.on.the.safe.side...So.if.you.take.the.plate.off.and.you.see.whats.in.the.illustration,..its.time.to.clean,.and.quite.possibly.time.for.a.tune-up..If.you.see.this.kind.of.build.up,.bring.all.the.debris.forward,.and.vacuum.or.dust.it.out..We.have.maintenance.kits.available.to.do.both.of.these.procedures...Also,..after.cleaning.its.a.good.time.to.oil.the.hook.....
