The plant is owned by Honorable Mr. Naveen Jindal.

The plant was acquired by JSPL from Al Ghaith Holdings on 2nd

July 2010.

When JSPL took over the plant, Material Handling unit, Natural

Gas, Sea water and R.O Plant operations were not ready.

All the pending activities were completed in full fledged manner

and first trial production was achieved on 5th December 2010.

This date was 4 months ahead of targeted date.

Commercial production was declared from January 2011.

This Midrex plant capacity is 1.5 MTPA production rate.

We have our own Jetty for loading and unloading of product and raw

material, including two terminal with the capacity of receiving

capsize vessels.

The Raw material yard has the capacity of storing around 0.4 million

tons of oxide and HBI yard of 0.16 million tons.

We have our in-house R.O Plant for meeting our water requirement

for the integrated Iron & steel Plant; Natural Gas Pre-treatment

system.

As per the design of Midrex, this plant was designed to operate along

with SMS plant and to produce 1.1 million Tons of HDRI and 0.4

million tons of HBI per annum.

When we commissioned and started production from DRI Plant, we

had only 3 Briquetting machines and SMS Plant was not ready Due to

the regular PMI of machines, we were not able to achieve the desired

Rated capacity of 187.5 TPH

So, we erected and commissioned the 4th Briquetting machine in-

house on 26th October 2011, and enhanced our production capacity.

In spite of the 4 Briquetting machines, the PMI hours cause

restriction to achieve the rated capacity with the absence of HDRI.

Oxygen injection was commissioned on 13th March 2012 and thus we

have achieved our rated production capacity of 187.5 TPH.

Achievements:

Highest Monthly Production on Jan – 141,976 MT (previous 138,998 on Jan 13)

Highest HBI Production on Mar – 132,186 MT (previous 122,358 MT on Jan)

Continuous Operating Hours of Plant with 1,436 hours with production of

253,298 MT ( 16th September to 15th November 2013) surpassing previous

record of 1174 hours with 198,084 MT. (28th July to 15th September 2013).

After NGPT modification in Annual Shutdown (May-2013) , frequency of carbon

deposition in reformer was minimized & frequency was reduced to two month

from one month with high production.

Successful commissioning of ERI Pressure exchangers in R.O Plant Unit 1 in

December 2013.

“40” M Pipe form PDC to Feed Legs

Shadeed is the First Hotlink Plant to feed HDRI directly to SMS.

After Plant commissioned CLO feeding was started & gradually raised to 15-

20% of overall feed.

Due to Hotlink, “40” M feed pipe was from PDC to feed leg & Increase in Clo %

was resulting in hang-up.

Problem was Addressed to Midrex & asked JSIS to Provide Nucleonic Level

sensor Every “10” M on addition sledge hammer & has been provided.

Commissioning of 4th Briquetting Machines

Plant was designed for 187.5 tph with 3 briquetting machines & hotlink, As SMS

plant is Under commissioning , Management decided to go for 4th Briquetting

Machine.

4th Briquetting Machine was Commissioned on 27th October 2011 , which

provided Flexibility to do PMI, Almost 100 hrs of PMI was saved without

Production Loss.

Erection & Commissioning is done by JSIS Team which saved 1.62 million USD.

Steel Making Shop (Successfully taken first heat

on23.04.2014)

Electric Arc Furnace (EAF): the nominal capacity is 200 Tons. This is

largest in Middle East. It has unique feature to directly charge Hot

DRI at 650 C into EAF by gravity and thereby facilitates substantial

energy saving. This is worlds’ first Gravity Hot DRI Feeding System .

The furnace is most modern and technically superior.

Continuous Casting Machine: This is a combi high speed caster to

produce Billets and Blooms in Square & Round sections. It has 8

strands and is the largest and first of its kind in the world. The

nominal capacity of the machine is 2 Million Tons per Year. The

machine is capable of casting the following range of sections :-

* Sq. Billets ranging from 100 mm to 220 mm

* Square Blooms up to 350 mm x 350 mm and Rectangular

Blooms up to 350 mm x 380 mm.

* Round Sections from 180 mm to 406 mm.

Vacuum Degassing Furnace: Special steels are processed through the

furnace to cater to specific customer needs.
