POINT OF VIEW

Infrastructure in a State of ChangeIT infrastructure is changing fast, evidenced by phenomena that include cloud computing, software-defined data centers, pay-as-you-go (or use) offerings, and converged and hyperconverged computing. This is digital transformation in action: a rapid pace of change driven by business needs.

Move Today Shape Tomorrow Next Steps on the Digital Transformation Journey

By Bob Madaio, VP, Infrastructure Solutions Marketing, Hitachi Vantara and Lee Caswell, VP Products, Storage and Availability, VMware

You no doubt want to prioritize resources: Reduce the number of full-time employees (FTE) occupied with “keeping the lights on” and move them to strategically significant initiatives. Teams must create business value, be agile and efficient to stay relevant. And we realize that to achieve this, your ability to accelerate and modernize application development processes is critical. The windows of business opportunity are increasingly narrow. Our focus is to develop solutions that:

■■ Reduce IT management burden.

■■ Simplify and automate.

■■ Reduce infrastructure costs.

■■ Scale at will.

■■ Ensure that service level agreements are met.

■■ Meet availability targets.

While many understand that digital transformation is a solution, the challenge is how to harness the benefits of new infrastructure without disrupting existing systems. Data is an organization’s most strategic asset: It technically lives forever and the value continues to grow over time. For these reasons, we believe a modern data strategy is the foundation of any digital transformation strategy. You can derive competitive advantage when disparate sets of data are brought together into logical insights.

We deliver data services that allow you to efficiently manage, govern and mobilize disparate data any place you need to with reduced complexity and cost.

“Working together, Hitachi and VMware deliver the power of an ecosystem that combines the latest technology with a wealth of experience and world-class support.”

UCP HC

The hyperconverged Hitachi Unified Compute Platform HC (UCP HC) combines the strength of Hitachi UCP with VMware vSphere, vCenter and vSAN software to provide an all-in-one hyperconverged solution. The robust solution leverages the full value of existing VMware investments, provides a future deployment roadmap, and is very quick to deploy and scale.

UCP RS

The rack-scale Hitachi Unified Compute Platform RS (UCP RS) provides a hyperconverged infrastructure with VMware Cloud Foundation, consisting of vSphere, NSX, vSAN and vRealize Suite, to provide an integrated software-defined data center (SDDC). Organizations can use this SDDC solution to embrace private or hybrid cloud for faster time to market, while enhancing security.

We reduce the complexity of deploying and managing legacy IT by natively integrating compute, storage, networking and management for turnkey delivery of end-to-end modernized data center operations.

Achieving BalanceTo stay responsive to the business while you address the security, scalability and integration challenges introduced by shadow IT, you need a modern IT architecture that supports both traditional and cloud-native applications.

The right infrastructure partner is essential to realize the full potential of digital transformation. Your partner must offer robust solutions so that IT can implement an effective delivery and migration strategy. Our focus on modern infrastructure, simplified IT delivery and diversified consumption can facilitate your digital transformation. Ultimately, you will shape your ability to capitalize on tomorrow’s opportunities with this decision.

Deliver the Industry’s Fastest Time to ProductionWe recognize the impact of the changes within IT organizations and have intensified our alliance with VMware. Together, we create solutions that make it easier and faster for you to keep pace with change. You can move forward with digital transformation and accelerate time to business value.

We created Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP), optimized for VMware, to address any use case, at any scale, and in any location. Whether focused on the data center, remote edge or public cloud, with UCP you can deploy a secure solution into production fast. We deliver an optimized, preconfigured and pretested solution in just five or fewer days.

Five solutions exemplify our tighter integration with VMware and the ability to easily migrate workloads into modern infrastructures.

UCP

We use APIs and adaptors developed specifically for VMware in the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) portfolio. The solution supports the full range of enterprise workloads whether traditional or cloud native.

You can achieve rapid time-to-value from highly standardized building blocks and advanced software automation “out of the box.” Hitachi’s service-led approach engages VMware experts who can meet your more complex needs.

UCP CI

The converged infrastructure Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP CI), a factory built and tested package of compute, storage, and networking combined with VMware vSphere virtualization platform creates the best foundation for apps, cloud and business. This solution keeps management simple and operational costs low.

“In today’s world, it is no longer the large fish that will eat the small fish, but rather the fast fish will eat the slow fish.”

Cloud Native Application Development

IT teams must balance between cloud native and traditional application development. The challenge is to reduce the cost and complexity associated with the delivery of disparate applications and services.

VMware adapters within Hitachi Management Packs make it easy to:

■■ Automate and orchestrate tasks.

■■ Simplify management.

■■ Maximize value within VMware environments.

Hitachi Unified Compute Platform Advisor (UCP Advisor) automated management and orchestration software for converged infrastructure simplifies management through tight integration with VMware vCenter. It provides single pane of glass visibility across compute, network and storage.

This unique native integration makes workload migrations far easier. There is no need for your team to learn new systems, buy additional software, or undertake the risky and time-consuming task of manually integrating systems. Quite simply, all the heavy lifting has been done.

Customer Successes“We chose Hitachi UCP HC after extensive evaluation against other hyperconverged vendor solutions. UCP HC’s all-in-one, single-vendor solution, with native VMware integration, made it easy to meet our performance and availability needs. To economically grow and scale as we expand our business closed the deal.”

Vo Nguyen, IT Manager, Seven System Viet Nam JSC

“What’s really interesting is, when we first had an opportunity to meet the Hitachi team, they came in and simply listened, and they questioned to understand. When I walked away from the conversations, I realized that they were valuing us as a customer. They were interested in our journey. They were more concerned about our success. I was impressed with the talent that Hitachi brought to the table, every time. That’s pretty powerful. That’s what partnership looks like.”

Michael S. MathewsVice President and Chief Information Officer, Deluxe Corporation

“What Hitachi brought to the table was quality and expertise. Hitachi did an excellent job of pinpointing the problems we face and putting together a professional and compact package supported by a great customer service team.”

Andreas Kranabitl, Managing Director, SPAR Austria Group
