TECHNICAL SKILLS

2005 - 2009 The University of Manchester, School of Earth Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences Earth Science (MEarthSci), 2:1 Hons

MSci Earth Science: Final projectIndependent project assessed the potential for economically viable gold extraction in the Leadhills region of Scotland. Large scale smearing of gold data acquired from tailings of derelict lead mining alongside numerous geographical, geological and hydrodynamical factors had to be negotiated during analysis of the geochemical data. This provided an excellent opportunity to improve problem solving skills; research and scrutinise literature; to collect, analyze and present large sums of geochemical data, and subsequently to communicate this information to others through a variety of media.

BSc Geology: Final projectThe course involved the analysis of real data, from microscopic to a global scale and incorporated a 6-week independent mapping project in Spain. This provided an opportunity to gain valuable scientific, analytical, and communication skills which were essential to completing such a large project.

2003 - 2005 A-Levels York Sixth Form College 3 A2 levels, Geology (B), Geography (C) and Chemistry (D): 1 As level, Media studies (B)

1998 - 2003 G.C.S.E’s Boroughbridge High School 8 GCSEs: 7-grade A-C incl. Maths, English and Science: GNVQ in Leisure and Tourism (equiv. 2 GCSE A-C).

• Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Proficient with ArcView (equiv - As), Mapinfo, AutoCAD, Promine, Gemcom.• Extensive experience operating and manipulating data from numerous analytical instruments including: Atomic - absorption (AA), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Environmental-SEM, Electron Microprobe, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy, X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy.• Skilled assayer, Implemented sample collection and processing for exploration and benefitiation samples at Nalunaq gold mine. Including data analysis of mineable gold grades, gold benificiation efficiency, progress of electrowinning, fineness of dore gold. • Excellent IT skills that include efficient use of all office packages, advanced knowledge of geochemical data manipulation on Excel, Adobe (Illustrator/Photoshop), Stereonett, advanced researching, and a range of IT based data analysis software.• Full, clean, category B drivers license.

August 2010 - Present: Angel Mining Plc, Nalunaq, Greenland:

• In charge of the day to day running of the Assay Laboratory including the full gold and cyanide sampling system for UG exploration and processing plant, which involved the management of staff and the analysis of geochemical data. • QA/QC, Administered full sampling program at Nalunaq Gold mine for UG and surface sampling: geological, groundwater and mineral processing plant. Analysis of Free & WAD cyanide levels in processing plant, tails and groundwater, Analysis of gold: Exploration, mill, leaching, Carbon-in-pulp, tailings, electrowinning, dore gold.• UG mine geologist and geo-engineering duties inc: independently mapping and sampling rock faces, maintaining records of underground geological inspections (AutoCAD, Promine and GEMCOM), assisted in implementing mine ventilation, examinations of rock quality in exposed faces, and general assistant to geological and metallurgical superintendents.

KEY SKILLS

Leadership and Co-ordination• Assay lab manager at Nalunaq gold mine: In charge of an assaying team and co-manage a cyanide sampling team in the plant. Training of teams for commisioning of cyanide leaching plant, focussing on efficiency and health and saftey. • Assisted mettalurgist superintendent in the audit of the processing plant and have project managed minor construction projects: redirecting ventilation, overseeing contruction of leach and CIP tanks, upholding health and safety procedures.• Employed as a head chef at the frog and bucket, systematically checking and ensuring that the kitchen porter and waiting staff carried out their duties efficiently and effectively, organizing food orders and stock rotation.• Organized weekly 5-a-side football events between the Earth Sciences Department at University, by creating a league and regular fixtures involving approximately 100 people.

Teamwork• Work long FIFOs everyday where my time is effectively managed between the mine, processing plant and assay laboratory: good teamwork and the ability to work beyond the call of duty is essential.• Worked efficiently with a colleague collecting data for my final year project, dramatically increasing our projected datayield by 30%, receiving very positive feedback from our peers.• Completed a highly regarded module, ‘sustainable development’ accredited by the Royal Academy of Engineers which afforded the opportunity to work efficiently in a team, form productive relationships with clients and critically reflect on and change organizational practices.• Keen team sportsman playing cricket for local and district teams and actively involved in a regular 5-a-side football team, a climbing club and a squash league.
