Client: Cornwall CouncilValue: £685,000Location: Newquay Harbour, CornwallThis high profile project consisted of the construction of new fisherman’s stores and offices together with various improvement works to the harbourside. The new building was constructed to replace a timber built structure that burnt down some time ago; it consists of seven stores on the ground floor, with four first floor offices together with the accessible ancillary rooms. The new facility was built to take into account the poor ground conditions within the quay itself and finished with natural Brazilian slate roof to match the adjacent RNLI building. The front elevations also incorporated natural stone walling to match adjacent buildings and ensure the new building was in keeping with the Grade II Listed status of the harbour.

Client: The Royal Bank of Scotland PLCValue: £515,000Location: PlymouthThis scheme was awarded through our involvement with the Royal Bank of Scotland Framework and consisted of replacing the copper roof, installation of a new walkway latchway system and refurbishment of the clock tower on the existing Grade II Listed five storey building. The barrel vaulted roof was covered in a patinated copper material fixed by traditional methods therefore we appointed the local roofing company that had completed the original roof works 50 years ago. Extra care was also taken with the Grade II Listed clock’s gearing system as it is approximately 50 years old and extremely delicate. We had to undertake the works around the mechanism and adapt the access ladder to the clock tower roof without disturbing the gear.

Client: Truro SchoolValue: £771,000Location: Truro, Cornwall An enclosed courtyard at the rear of the school was identified as the location for an extension to the Dining Room. This involved the demolition of a single storey building and workshop, installation of new switch room and construction of the new extension with a first floor gallery. The construction included Gluelam Beams, together with steel and concrete circular columns. The roofs were particularly interesting being a combination of zinc pitched surfaces and green flat roof areas. We resequenced the construction program suggested by the design team to reduce the impact of noise and dust on the school and held regular management meetings with the school to define and resolve traffic and pedestrian protocols.

Client: Scottish Widows Unit Funds LimitedValue: £1.24 millionLocation: BristolWorking in a live office environment, this project consisted of the strip out and refurbishment of an existing 30,000 square foot office building including landlords common areas (lobbies, stairwells, WC accommodation, main reception, plant and store rooms and car parks) and two separate floor plates on floors 1 to 4. As existing tenants were in occupation throughout the complete refurbishment noise levels were kept to a minimum so as to prevent any disturbance to the day to day running of the business.

Client: Plymouth City CouncilValue: £527,000Location: PlymouthThe complete refurbishment of a redundant building on site of the fully operational Salisbury Road Primary School. The building, which has been partially used by Plymouth City Council in recent years, now houses six Reception and Year 1 classes, together with ancillary spaces such as WCs, group rooms and offices. As a way of encouraging the pupils to take an interest in the building work, a Health and Safety poster competition was held to raise awareness of being close to a construction site. In another community initiative aimed at helping the school, we sponsored the provision of 30 Key Stage 2 Maths and Crossword Puzzle books for the pupils.

Client: Cornwall Housing LtdValue: £955,000Location: Bodmin, CornwallThe scheme comprised the design and construction of nine new build dwellings for Cornwall Housing on a brownfield site and included the demolition of derelict garages. This project was procured through Cornwall Council Framework and provided a block of four 1 and 2 bedroom flats together with a terrace of five 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses. One unit was specifically designed to meet the needs of a wheelchair bound tenant. The dwellings were constructed to meet the requirements of The Code for Sustainable Homes and Code 3. Therefore we employed a specialist Code Assessor to ensure the scheme fully met all requirements of the Code.
