Shells Wind Parks Produce 500 Megawatts of Renewable Energy Yearly

Businessman, investor and blogger David Lawrence, who writes Energy Perspectives, was formerly head of global exploration for Royal Dutch Shell and the executive vice president of exploration and commercial at Shell Upstream Americas, with responsibilities including Shell's wind business and LNG. After retiring from Shell, David Lawrence continues to support energy initiatives, including renewable energy, by serving as chairman of the Yale Climate and Energy Institutes external advisory board, as well as participating in events such as the 2015 Yale Alumni in Energy Annual Conference, which discussed energy law development, renewable energy, energy policy and oil and gas in the new price environment.

Shell has sustained its position in the wind industry. With eight wind projects stateside and two overseas, Shell is actively implementing renewable energy sources that produce carbon-emission-free electricity. As it stands, the organization avoids putting 1 million tons of carbon dioxide into the air every year and produces 500 megawatts ( Shell share) of power with its existing turbines.

Among its wind parks is a location in Egmond aan Zee, just off the Dutch coast in the North Sea. The park consists of 36 turbines that stand 180 feet tall. Each turbine annually generates three megawatts of electricity that are delivered to more than 100,000 households in the region.
