GROUND RULES
These rules apply to all handlers during training sessions and have been
formulated for the welfare of you and your dog.
Any Club member, or any person guilty of unseemly conduct or acts harmful to the club, may be asked to leave the Training area. They may also be dealt with by the Committee of The GSDC of S A Inc. under clause 6, and relative by-laws of the Clubs Constitution.
Any dog which is sick WILL NOT be permitted onto the Club grounds.
Dogs who have suffered a CONTAGIOUS DISEASE WILL NOT be allowed on to the grounds until 5 weeks after being cleared by a veterinarian (a vets certificate may be re-quired). Puppies should not be brought out onto the Club grounds under the age of 8 weeks or at least 2 weeks after they have been inoculated for
HEPATITIS, DISTEMPER AND PARVOVIRUS ( vaccination certificate may be required).
Bitches in season are not permitted on the grounds unless at a recognised Club event.
The use of switches, spiked collars or whips is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN ON THE CLUB GROUNDS.
Members shall not treat their dog in a manner which may reflect badly on the Club.
Dogs are NOT to be taken off-lead or left unattended, except on the directives, or under the supervision of a Class Instructor.
The handlers of dogs which foul the Club grounds, will be responsible for cleaning up same, with the
equipment provided.
The Head Instructor has the authority to permit the use of a muzzle or training devices, as required in special cases. The use of the equipment is to be under supervision, and its use on the grounds, other than above, is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
Dogs under the age of 12 months ARE NOT permitted to use jump equipment higher than 400 mm, or longer than 800 mm.
Pursuant of the Health act "Dogs" ARE NOT permitted inside the Clubrooms.
In the interest of safety and health, and in consideration of others, parents are required to super-vise the behaviour of their children. The Clubrooms and Toilets MUST NOT be used as playing
areas.
In the interests of public health the Clubrooms and the verandah area are NON-SMOKING areas.
TRAINING HEAT POLICY
If the forecast temperature is predicted to be 38 degrees or above on channel 9 weather at 6pm the night before training, (Wednesday nights or Sunday’s), all training will be cancelled.
Appropriate foot wear must be worn at ALL times when handling / double handling dogs on the Club grounds. Bare feet, thongs, slip on shoes, high heels, sandals or crocs are not suitable foot
wear and members wearing any of the above will be asked to leave the training area.

President’s Report

We were all saddened by the sudden loss of two of our club
members. Gwenda Baker and Anita Strikwerda. The Committee
and Members extend deepest sympathies to their families.
As the redevelopment of the area around the club moves on, I
have met with Dominic from Adelaide Shores and the develop-
ment of our grounds is still on hold for approximately two years
due to financial constraints. The Committee will still move for-
ward on improving our club rooms and equipment however.
The Committee recently decided to cease the production of the
Shepherd News in its current printed format. This decision was
made after much deliberation and was necessary due to the very
high printing costs involved. This edition of the Shepherd News
will be the final in printed format and subsequent issues will be
available to download from the Club’s website. For those
members who do not have a computer or are unable to download
a copy, there will be hard copies available for collection from the
club, in A4 format. Members who are unable to attend the club,
can request a copy be posted to them but will be required to pay
for postage.
The 2014 National Show and Trial to be held in Canberra is fast
approaching so good luck with your training to those members
who are travelling across for this major event.

2014 looms to be another busy year for me. With the Shepherd News going online, I have
been exploring template options to make it interactive and easy to keep up to date. I have
taken inspiration for other online newsletters and look forward to bringing you all this new
format.
Like many I am getting ready for the National in Canberra, very much looking forward to the
show and busy training the dogs to be ready and fit. Hope to see lots of SA members there
showing and trialling.
It has also been a sad few months with loosing 2 ladies who were both German Shep-
herd enthusiast and current or past members, our thoughts are with their family and
friends during this difficult time.

She achieved many obedience titles with various breeds of dogs (including Shepherds of
course), won numerous awards and the Golden Dumbbell (don’t know how many times or
in what year/s) Also participated in Agility.

Anita was passionate about the German Shepherd, her kennel was Shepherdhill Kennels
and she was very proud of this. Anita enjoyed showing in both the All Breeds Ring and
specialty showing. Anita was also passionate about the white swiss shepherd.

comprising of: Family =73, Family Pensioner = 9,
Single =69, Single Pensioner =9, Junior =2,
Honorary =1, PATRON =1, giving a total of 185
units of Membership, if you consider a Family Mem-
bership to comprise of at least 2 then that equates to
266 Members.
The Committee has made a decision to cease producing the Shepherd News
as an A5 booklet and posting it, apart from the Annual General Meeting
edition. . This will save the Club about $4,000 per year in printing and
postage, also the committee felt in today’s digital world that by the time the
Shepherd News is printed and distributed by post that much of the
information contained within it is out of date and has probably been sourced
by members from the club’s website or Facebook page.. From the next
edition the Shepherd News will be sent to your email address in a PDF file
and available on the club website for download. Members who do not have a
computer will still be able to request an A4 hardcopy which will be available
to be picked up at the club grounds. If a member still wants the Shepherd
News posted than an additional fee will charged for postage.
The 42nd National is getting close, entries close on Friday the 18th of
April and the Show & Trial will be held on the 16th,17,& 18th of May hosted
by the ACT Club at Exhibition Park, Flemington Road, Canberra ACT, pack
your thermal underwear you may need it as Canberra can be Very Cold. It's a
long 16 hour drive so take regular breaks or have alternative drivers at the
ready. Dave & Allison Rumble from SA are Judging some of the Obedience
classes as well as Winners of Winners.
There will be a Survey at the SA Club on Sunday May the 4th and if required
a Breed Survey will be held on Thursday 15 May 2014 at 3.00pm at
ACTGSDA Club Grounds, Exhibition Park, Flemington Road, Mitchell ACT

We have been AMAZED by the depth and breadth of people have been
touched by Zar. He truly was one in a million - so a short history .
Brooksvale Easy Street - “Zar”, Born 30Jan 2004; Died 19 Jan 2014.
How was he selected ? A chance ad in the paper, led us to a kennel at
Mosquito Creek on the way to Goolwa. The only one out of a litter to be
attracted to us, who promptly wee’d on Lib’s shoes. Despite her misgivings,
we bought him, and he curled up and went to sleep in her arms for the trip
home, creating a bond that was only broken today, although it was frequently
tested. On his arrival he met “Ollie” who was LESS than impressed and when
Zar [as he was christened by us] barged into Ollie’s food on that first day,
he was promptly snapped on the snout, which by chance broke a blood vessel
in his nose. We thought the squealing pup would bleed to death, but his hard
introduction to life at the Vial’s prepared him for what was to come. Hard
training at GSDCSA earned him a Class 5 in Obedience, proving he was a lot
smarter than his handler.
Thanks to Doctors Eleanor & Ken at Harbourside Vet Care at Largs North, we
had him for 18 months more than we had hoped. And to Adelaide Animal
Emergency at Kurralta Park for the easing of his passing.
Our grief has been mollified by messages of condolence from people whom we
didn't realise had been so touched by him.
