TRACK 1 – SHERLOCK -HELLO HELLO

SYNOPSIS – Sherlock Holmes’ granddaughter reads in the newspaper that the Crown Jewels have been

stolen from the Tower of London, and that there is a reward of £50,000 for their recovery. Just as she is

thinking about how she’s going to find them, she receives a letter and a clue. It’s an opportunity not to be

missed. She decides to follow the clue which takes her on a journey around London. On the way she

meets a policeman, Policeman Plod, who is also looking for the Crown Jewels. Who will find them first?

Who stole them in the first place? Follow Sherlock’s adventures around the capital and discover more

about London’s famous people and places. From the London Eye to the underground, our audience is

asked to jump on board and solve the crime of the century!

WORKSHEETS 1 and 1B

Use the flashcards to teach the most “typical “ sights and things in London.

Before you hand out WORKSHEET 1B, write the name ‘Sherlock Holmes’ on the board. Put the children into pairs and ask them to write down

everything they know about Sherlock Holmes. What did he look like?

Where did he live? What did he do? Etc. Now they can read about him

and answer the questions.

After that, tell your students to read the newspaper article and match the

vocabulary with the pictures.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SHOWS FOR SMALL GROUPS

ü A teacher’s sized table

ü A clear space of 3m x 4m

ü 1 x plug socket

ü The actress will arrive 30 minutes before the performance and will leave 15 minutes afterwards.

GUIDELINES FOR A SUCCESSFUL SHOW

In order for the children to enjoy and follow the 45 minute story told in another language, we recommend

the following guidelines:

ü  Ensure that the children have done at least some preparation from the Workpack, so that they know

who the characters are and are familiar with the story.

ü Do not allow the children to come to the session with toys, drawings, food or drink.

ü To avoid distraction, limit the number of times teachers or children need to enter/leave the room during

the performance.

ü Ask all teachers/monitors/parents present during the session to encourage the children to participate.

ü Ask all teachers/monitors/parents present during the session to refrain from talking amongst themselves.

ü Turn off all mobile phones.

SHERLOCK WORKSHEET 1B

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character who first appeared in 1887 in a book called “A Study in Scarlet”. The character of Sherlock Holmes is London’s most famous

detective, who used his logic and forensic skills to solve even the most difficult crimes. Sherlock lived and worked

with his good friend and assistant Dr John Watson. The character lived at 221b, Baker Street, London. His house is now The Sherlock Holmes Museum.

Who is Sherlock Holmes? In pairs write down everything you know about Sherlock Holmes. What did he do? Where did he live? What did he look like? Etc. Now read the information and answer the questions. Were you right?
