WORKFORCE HIGH HEALING THROUGH DOING.For many years, minority communities have struggled with inferior educational options and inadequate workforce development programs. In many communities, these deficiencies have led to wealth regression, widespread poverty, and an unending cycle of dependency.
Exacerbating these serious issues, the COVID-19 virus has damaged and continues to harm minority communities in an immeasurable and disproportionate manner. The untold damage includes catastrophic loss of life, ongoing and future health problems, and increased economic hardship. As the country emerges from the cloud of the virus and the lengthy lockdowns, minority communities will need, more than ever, effective programs which provide valuable education, transferable job skills, improved employment prospects and Workforce High is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Collaborative Organization wealth creation.
Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Harlem are teeming with potential. Hidden in the constant news of violence and poor
math scores lies an untapped labor force needing the skills to compete for the careers corporations and communities desperately need filled.
Wealth creation has been regulated to be a college ready or nothing mantra in some of the most challenging places in the country. With little home support, some school systems and organizations have helped a few navigate through college with meaningful degrees and job prospects. But many of our youth enter high school unemployable and graduate with scant job prospects. We have ushered countless of our youth unprepared to college only to see them return with debt and broken dreams as we check off compliance regulations.
Deaths by poverty will exceed 5% after 2020. The reactionary policies that follow the tragic loss of lives will only highlight the one truth that exists in communities of color and poverty: That we have continually failed to put systems in place to help people break the cycle of dependence.
More than ever, we need to heal and provide intentional paths to success. Mentorship programs and after school homework clubs have never been the answer to economically devastated communities. When we listen to the youth, we hear that they want to learn how to start businesses, make things, and earn an honest living. When we listen to concerned principals and college counselors tasked with providing pathways, we hear one consistent message:
We need to help our students shift their MINDSETS.
It takes love through innovative systems to shift culture. Workforce High’s history of healing through doing brings like minded people together to cultivate the resources and opportunities to bring about change. From the entrepreneurial META24 Bridge program and social enterprise MZUZI storefront, to the focus on personal development leading to corporate apprenticeships and career placements, are what sets Workforce High apart.
PATHS. PASSION. SUCCESS.

EDUCATION SERVICE PROVIDERS BLENDED LEARNINGWorkforce High is a collective of educational service providers that are changing the perspective of what career and college ready looks like through a true blended learning experience .
Workforce High students work on core subjects through a unique competency-based curriculum that engages them through engaging entrepreneurial ventures.
Workforce High trains students through the 21st century makerspaces called META Labs. The system is a metacognitive skill mastery pipeline placing our students on intentional tracks towards employment and graduation. As students build transferable skills, we work with employers directly to place students in careers where they start building wealth immediately after high school.

Factors that contribute to youth disengagement, particularly among minorities, often include core skill deficiencies, poverty, homelessness, disabilities and criminal records. Declining African American and Latino household wealth exacerbates youth disengagement.
Wealth reduction among minority families combines with growing youth disengagement to create nearly insurmountable barriers for many young people to find paths to the middle class. Change is needed!
A CASE FOR HEALING
Today, an estimated 6.3 million young people ages 16-24 are disengaged from school and the workforce. Unless they receiveadequate education and support, the outlook is grim:

CHICAGOSTATISTICSStudents Need Bridge to Apprentice to Career Pipelines More Than Just Placement in a Traditional Work Programs. We can strengthen schools by providing them the tools to prepare students for post secondary options.
More employers are seeking potential laborers right out of high school due due to the increased risk of acquiring negative habits after graduation. The problem is many of these eligible laborers do not have the experience prior to exiting high school and need it to both build transferable skills as well as deal with legitimate trauma and bad habits.

EDUCATION ATTAINMENT OF OPPORTUNITY YOUTH SERVED-Organizations reported that the majority of OY participating in services have not completed high school or a GED (51%) or have only compelted high school/GED (38%).
READINESS FOR COLLEGE-LEVEL COURSEWORK-Our opportunity to change the course for our poorest populations begins with the Dev-Ed students in our city colleges. Dev Ed students are those who are stuck between the relevance of their high school education and wanting to be autonomous.
Statistically, Dev Ed students struggle to remain in school and are ill-prepared for careers. Current Dev Ed students need a Bridge program while current middle and high school students will benefit from added value systems of learning preparing them for work and careers.
Bridge Programs are needed in existing high schools and community colleges. Reversing poverty starts with shifting the mindset of dependence by spending our most valuable resources to help each person reach their potential.
We scatter resources to tackle issues when our primary systems need a surge of innovation and autonomy to tackle the issues. When we look at statistics such as these the answer is not compliance checkboxes of minimal adjustments but truly intentional paths for success.

The Workforce High system encompasses four main components for success:
PUBLIC PRIVATE B.A.C. SYSTEM
We have large and small existing makerspaces where students augment core competencies through work-based learning. We have standalone sites on Chicago’s west and south sides, as well as schools across the city utilizing META Labs.
Workforce High’s motto is Healing Through Doing. We train career-skilled workers in cognitive behavior therapy to work alongside students during internships and post hire.
We have hundreds of project, place, and work-based courses guaranteed to engage students while helping them in their core development. The courses run the gamut, from introductory to apprentice-based, depending on the ages and skills of the students.
Workforce High partners with several companies with a high demand for laborers. Our Career Placement Partners work intimately with us to understand how

Workforce High’s Collective measures success by the ability of our previously disengaged students to be trained, placed, and maintain employment over a six month period. We have helped thousands of youth in Chicago and Michigan master these 1skills through our five-tiered entrepreneur to apprentice based system. We call it the B.A.C. - Bridge to Apprentice to CareerPipeline.

Scaling Healing Through Doing works through our career navigator mentors who we call Incredible Messengers. We train skilled workers in simple processes of Cognitive Behavior and Self Determination Theory. We primarily target high low and high trauma participants and celebrate a gradual release process of personal development while they are engaged in mastering transferable skills. We go beyond simple mentorship and wellness checks as we start as early as fourth grade to promote pathways from trauma to wealth creation throughout the city. The program outcome for healing during the process looks as follows:

In order for the Healing Through Doing Process to work, students must be engaged not simply in terms of interest, but they also must gain the understanding that what they are working on turns into future earning power. Below is another program outcome grid that details the amount of skills students can expect to master as they matriculate through the 5 Tiers of the B.A.C. system.

PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP NEEDS
Workforce High’s collective is a unique system. The B.A.C. pipeline is poised to help existing and new participants connect to newly added corporate partners. In order to maximize Earnings we need to increase B.A.C.s impact by expanding the time (Extension), the skill level of the social enterprise (Experts), and continue to integrate our curriculum with major corporations (Education). Initially, $1M in funding will allow us to increase this pipeline and continue to help our most vulnerable populations heal themselves and their communities through doing what not only interests them, but what benefits their continued development.

Once students get to this level they can sustain materials and their businesses. What is challenging is the time with instructors and
the next level of excellence. Most transition to the job/career side by this point but many return wanting
to expand on skills.
Students outside of high school have limited scope and
chance to grow business. Need private funded opportunities for post graduation,
including full time retail experts.
