Fire and lights, spirit and hope, friendships renewed and
strengthened, past and future, a celebration of the holy
sacraments, it all came together for nearly 300 campers at
the mission center’s two reunions this summer.
“The CVG reunion was a real testimony to me of how
we can be one in Christ and live, love, and share the kingdom
way of life,” said Pat Reaves, director of Reunion 2 at Cedar
Valley Grove Campground near Mechanicsville, IA. “Cedar
Valley Grove Reunion 2 was an exceptionally meaningful
week!”
The week began with a BIG bang on the 4th of July with
well over 125 campers and guests attending the opening ser-
vice, a celebration of 50

The hymn says, “We
are companions on the
journey” -- journeying
together and journeying
with God. Here is a
summary of this past
year's journey:
1. Nov. 1, 2014: CV-N
Priesthood Retreat was
held at Cedar Valley
Grove with about 80
attending. Michele
McGrath challenged us to
“move out with God.”
Our theme for the
Retreat was “Priesthood
Faithfulness: Magnifying
Our Callings.”
2. Don and I continued to
speak throughout the
Mission Center and offer
support to all.
3. More congregations
have started having
regularly scheduled local
priesthood meetings. This
is encouraging.
4. During the Lenten
Season, priesthood
members were invited to
join together in daily
prayers for the different
congregations of the
Mission Center. An out-
line letter was sent to the
priesthood so we knew
which congregations to be
praying for on a given day.
5. Plans are moving
forward for a Priesthood
Retreat on Oct. 31 at
Camp Nauvoo. Keith

City Center Ministry would like to thank all who are interested in supporting
our kids Christmas shopping store. We have about 20 kids who come on a regular
basis. Here is a short overview of the project: Through the years of working with the
kids at City Center Ministry, one thing we have observed over the years is how
thoughtful the kids are for those who care for
them. Each year we play bingo at our Christmas
celebration and each year we watch as the kids
win and choose a gift for someone else. So we
decided last year to open a Christmas store
upstairs at the church so the kids could shop for
the people on their gift list. This year the store
will be open Dec. 5. We will have helpers for
each child and will gift wrap so their special gift
will be a surprise. Because our kids donʼt have
money to buy gifts, they have been earning
Christmas bucks since January by attending Sun-
day school and church each week. Each gift will
have a small price and the price in Christmas
bucks. They have been so excited all year about this and when they shop, they will
know they have earned the “money” to buy Christmas gifts.
There are several ways you can help us make this special for the kids. You can
donate money, which we will use to buy various gifts, or you can donate new or gen-
tly used items you think adults (primarily women) would like to receive. Some sugges-
tions are: Pyrex dishes, mixing bowls, bath towels, scented lotions, one-size-fits-all
slippers, scarves, mittens/gloves, hats, candles, flashlights and batteries, blankets, toys
(kids 1-15 years), gift wrap/bags and bows. We would appreciate donations by Nov.
1, so we have time to see what has been donated before we shop.
Thank you all for your support of our ministry through your prayers, donations
and concerns. It is through this support we are able to offer this special ministry.

years at CVG. The service opened with
two plantings: a blooming tree as a
symbol of the future, and a Burning Bush
as a reminder of the past. Maquoketa
Pastor Carole Kasowski created a
painting for the occasion entitled Keep
the Fire Burning. The painting, featuring a
blazing campfire in front of a wooden
cross was presented and hung in the
dining lodge. “We had an incredible day
of fun, fellowship, and celebration of our
50 years of camping memories at this
beloved place,” Reaves said.
Reunion 2 was extremely blessed to
have Andrew, Jewell, and David Bolton, along with David's
fiancée, Laura Phillips, as our guest ministry, Reaves said.
“They were 100 percent present with us, and truly minis-
tered to us in heart-felt ways. God richly blessed us, and
we felt His Holy Spirit in many and varied ways. We
started each day with early morning guided meditations,
prepared by Marlene and Lyle Brim, and got to experi-
ence the labyrinth, too. Dave and Cathy Loy created six
worship centers that focused on the five Mission Initiatives
and on generosity, to help us better understand their
purpose, and how we can live them, in our daily lives.”
Two weeks earlier, 170 campers,
including 65 children, had gathered for
Reunion 1 at Camp Nauvoo, nearly 200
miles south overlooking the Mighty
Mississippi River. “The campgrounds
overflowed with joy, hope, love and
peace,” said Deb Batey, camp director.
“We were blessed with the ministry
provided by Kevin and Katie Bryant and
their two young sons. The Bryants,
ministers at the Powerhouse church in
Baltimore, provided us with many
larger-than-life stories. We were in awe
at what they see on a daily basis and the
hands-on ministry they provide.”
A baby blessing and two ordinations highlighted the
reunions. Teagan Meierotto, daughter of Tyson and Sara
Meierotto, was blessed by Evangelist Jerry Wiemann
during Reunion 1. Tyson and Sara met at camp and felt the
reunion was the appropriate place for the blessing of their
first child. Lachlan Mackay was ordained to the Office of
Seventy by Apostle Andrew Bolton, and Alex Crump was
ordained to the Office of Priest by High Priest Doug
McFarlane at Reunion 2.
At Reunion 1, campers took part in the first ever
“Lights Over the Mississippi River” cabin lighting contest.
The Molly Depriest Gibbs family became the first trophy
winner with the Colleen Tripp family coming in a close
second. Campers enjoyed a group from Rutledge, Mo.,
that demonstrated how to live a life that is about being and
not about things. “We also learned about the Islamic
religion and had an entire class on exercises in spirituality,”
Batey said. “We were blessed to have classes in which
Lach Mackay taught church history and Deb Luce taught
the reunion text.”

Carole Kasowski and her horse Cisco proudly displayed the church banner in Maquoketa’s annual parade and took first place in the horse division. The Jacob Luce family decorated their van and Jacob walked alongside it handing out suckers with encouraging messages attached to them.
