OsteospermumGeneral informationDuring the entire summer, our showgarden is the place to judge, photograph andadmire our Osteospermum assortment. The plants are tested on their performance inthe Dutch climate and our own conditions. By keeping track on the various crops andvarious, year by year, we get a reliable image of each variety. Certain crops are moresensitive for mildew, but this is not visible in the same way every year. The constantgathering of all data will lead to a reliable judgement.

The plants are replanted from a small pot or as plugs planted into a 20 litre pot or 9,5litre hanging basket around week 16. In each pot 5 plants are planted and in eachhanging basket 3 plants. Around week 20, the plants are put outdoors after somehardening off in a cold greenhouse. The pots are placed on concrete stands, situatedon a clean concrete flooring. The field is placed in such a way, that the plants are in fullsun all day except for a small part with some morning shadow.

The special outdoor-potting soil is enriched with 3 kilos/m³ Osmocote slow releasefertilizer for 5 to 6 months. Apart from that all pots are watered and fertilized bymeans of a drip system. Each watering is done with an EC of 2-2.5 on a vegetativeschedule. The frequency of watering depends on the irradiaton. We apply no cropprotection chemicals except for 1 or 2 preventive mildew treatments before themiddle of June.

During Summer, dead flowers are removed regularly.
