My most loving pranams to the Lotus feet of Our Beloved Swami, revealed el-

ders, Sai youths and teen youths of Kedah! Jai Sai Ram.

Where is God? Where is Swami? Many have asked this question, many

more have looked for answers. Yet, the answer is simple. The formless Supreme

chose to take a wondrous form that of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, with that

dark halo of hair, dressed in elegant orange hues, endearing Himself to all

hearts. It is His utmost grace that we knew His presence on earth and can openly

say that God walked the earth, we lived with God and witnessed this to be true.

Our beloved Swami never passed away, but He has passed into all of us to stay

within us permanently. Yes, He has gone nowhere but resides in our heart. He is

Sai Hrudaya Vasine, indweller of hearts.

Dear teen youths, what we need today is unwavering faith in God. Faith

alone can protect us. Under all circumstances, at all times, consider God as the

basis of life. We, the limited beings can never claim to know everything about the

limitless Swami. Every satsang with a Sai devotee or participation in any func-

tion, provides us with an opportunity to know more and more of Swami and His

leelas. After all, learning is a continuous process. The glory of the Divine gets

unfolded gradually and we should consider ourselves lucky to come across such

glorious occasions to listen to and learn. It is a fact that the journey of several

miles begins with a single small step. It is one such small step to integrate

thoughts, shape our action and build a better rapport among the teen youths of

Kedah by their selfless contribution and dedication in publishing this newletter,

Sai Hrudaya Vasine (SHV) under His guidance. We would like to grab this op-

portunity to expand our heartfelt gratitude to those have helped us directly and

indirectly in making this possible. Special thanks Dr.Praveen Kumar as your

support is immensely valuable. It is a divine blessing to all of us and sincerely

    thank you beholden

    Truth

The life principle within each of us isthe truth. We would not be existent with-out it and once we are not there, theworld also ceases. This life principle isidentified as the human soul which inturn is the 'resident divinity' within eachindividual. It is this truth which is the

basis of every other thing and with the power of which the heart beats, thelungs breath and the system works. Therole of human intellect is to find out thetruth.

Interestingly, when one realizes and ex- periences this truth, one sees that the same truth pervades every other personand object. And in essence we are allone.

Truth has different levels. There is thetruth of sense perception such as: 'the

fire burns'. One can ascertain this withone's senses. There is also the truth byinference: such as 'man is mortal'. Webase this statement on the strength ofour observation of those around us and

extend it to arrive at a general conclu- sion, even though we may not have seenevery human being born in this worlddying. Apart from all these is the truthwhich is incapable of being destroyedor hurt. It persists and pervades thewhole cosmos.

When you seek the Truth, you are seeking God. Truth is

God. Truth exists; so too, God exists. Truth must beconsidered as life giving as breath itself. Just as a

person with no breath in him becomes useless, life

without Truth is useless and becomes a dwelling place of

strife and grief. Believe that there is nothing greater than

Truth; nothing more precious, nothing sweeter and

    nothing more lasting.

The end of knowledgeis LOVE. The end of

    education is character.

Shridi Sai Dwarakamayi Prasanthivasi Sai Ram

Shridi Sai Dwarakamayi Prasanthivasi Sai Ram

Oh Lord You are the One who incarnated as Sai Baba of Shirdi and resided in themosque which you called Dwarakamayi. You are the same one come again asSathya Sai Babawho established Prasanthi Nilayam –   the abode of supreme

     peace.

Sairam Sairam Ek Naam Sundar Naam

O Lord! We adore you through your beautiful name ‘ Sairam’!

Shridi Sai Dwarakamayi Prasanthivasi Sai Ram

O Lord Sai Ram! You are the same Lord Sai who incarnated before at Shridi andnow in Prashanti.

    Maulah Eashwar Sai Ram

O Lord! You are the same infinite Almighty One whom some adore as Maulahand others as Eashwar, and yet others as Sairam.

    Parthipuri Ke Hey Bhagawan

O Lord! You are the Omnipotent and Omniscient One who incarnated in Put-taparthi!

    Dayakaro Kripakaro Rakshakaro Hey Bhagawan

OhLord, the Almighty One! Please bless me with Thy grace, Thy compassion and

    Thy protection.

Shiridi Sai Dwarakamayi Prashanti Vasi Sai Ram

The first word,  Shiridi ,  refers to the holy land where Sai choose to incarnate asShiridi Sai. Shiridi, is the most endowed shrines of India.

The second word,  Sai , means the holy one/Lord or bellowed. Baba first appearedin Shiridi as a sixteen year old young handsome lad.

The third word,  Dwarakamayi   is the city of Lord Krishna. Shiridi Sai gave thename Dwarakamayi to the mosque he lived in.

Next is Prashanti Vaasi . Prashanti refers to Prashanti Nilayam and Vaasi means the‘resident of ’. In the 108 names used to adore Sathya Sai , there is a line which goeslike this, “Om Sri Sai Dwarakamayi Vaasi namaha”. Sometimes Baba also calls itthe Masjid Mayi which is the mother because it saved people and granted favoursto all. Just like Dwarakamayi, today Prashanti welcomes people from all corners

and races. Elaborating on the word prashanti which comes from ‘  Pra’ and ‘ Shanti’meaning peace. Baba says, many feel that they have attain peace not real peace. Itis temporary peace. Peace is when the energy spreads to one person to another andencompassing the whole world.. The last word is,  Sai Ram, which we use to referto both Shirdi Sai and Sathya Sai.

    Faith is like our

    life breath. It is

impossible to liveeven for a minute

    in this world

    without faith.

    Bro. Omshivashankar

Sai Ram Sai Ram Ek Nam Sundara Naam.

The name Sai Ram appears twice in the line.

The name Ek means One and Naam appears twice in this line which means name which makes Ek Naam One Name and Sundara Naam means Beautiful name.

Shirdi Sai has said that ‘If you only utter Sai… Sai…I will with my grace present you even the Seven Seas.Trust these words of mine and you will achieve your welfare most certainly. When the Lord came as SathyaSai he said that the lord and his name are both one but the sweetness of the name is seldom found in the form.As soon as the name Mango is mentioned one is reminded of an example of an incomparable sweetness but ifit an actual mango is held in the hand the doubt first arises in the mind if it is sweet or sour, but when the namealone is repeated, these things do not come to mind only the sweetness is experienced. The name of the Lord isvery powerful. Swami has said, “Whenever My name is chanted or sung, I shall install myself There”.

Shirdi Sai Dwarakamayi Prashanti Vaasi Sai Ram.

This is the repeat of the first line of the song.

    Maulah Eashwar Sai Ram.

First word here is Maulah, referring to the formless divinity Shirdi Baba often used to say Maula Malik mean-ing God is the master of all Beings.

The second word is Eashwar meaning God. Shirdi Baba encourages the Hindus to celebrate the Rama Navamifestival and the Muslims to celebrate their holy festivals. Swami never encouraged anyone to give up his or herreligion. All Gods are one. Its just that they are interpreted in many forms. All religions preach good deeds andencourage humanity.

    Parthipuri Ke Hey Bhagavan.

The first word here is Parti Puri, which means the place Putta Parthi. The second word here is Ke, meaning ofand the third word Hey is a manner of calling out lovingly to a person.

The last word here is Bhagawan which means God himself. Baba says that ‘Bha’ stands for creation, ‘Ga’ for protection, ‘Wa’ for Destruction. He who holds all these three powers which is creation, protection and de-struction, He is Bhagawan. There is no one greater than the Lord himself.

    Dayakaro Kripakaro Rakshakaro Hey Bhagawan

The first word, Daya Karo which can be split to Daya, meaning compassion or mercy and Karo meansto give. Only when our heart is full of compassion only then we can claim that we have a Heart. This lineshould be sung with full faith in Swami . If there is Ego while singing this song, it will bring no positive effectto anyone

The second word is Kripakaro where Kripa means Grace and this can be interpreted as, Oh Lord make meworthy of Your Grace and bless me to always remember you.

Baba once told a chain smoker, if you do not leave this habit of smoking I will not think of you, and you willnot be able to think of Me. The ability for us to think of Him is also his Grace. Without His will or grace weare nothing. So we must be gifted that Swami has showered the grace on us all to be in this Sai organization.

The third word is Raksha Karo. Raksha means protect.

The fourth word is Bhagawan whose meaning we have already seen.

HE IS TRUTH; TRUTH IS HIM

My humble salutations to the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan Baba. Sai Ram dear broth-ers and sisters! Being the embodiment of truth, “Swami is Truth; Truth is Him”.

Truth or Sathya can be defined as an unchangeable reality. Sathya can be ap-plied to whatever that comes from the heart where it is as pure as a newbornchild. It remains true all the time. It can never be changed nor can it be sup-pressed or hidden for a prolonged duration.

Bhagawan often reminds that when one seeks the truth, one is seeking the omnipo-tent Lord. Sadly, without understanding the essence of Sathya, people nowadayslive in an illusionary state where we do whatever it takes for us to get fame and

wealth. We fail to understand that a philanthropist who seems noble in the eyesof the world is indeed useless if he does it for mere fame and cheap publicity.

Since our Balavikas years, we are often advised to serve those who are in need.We are taught to love everyone as ‘ our own family’. So we should never expectanything in return when we render help or assistance to ‘ our family’.

We must serve mankind with selfless love and compassion. This action is a formof Sathya. We will receive the love and blessings from God, only when we serveHis children with clean and clear intentions. Remember, ‘  Manava Seva,Madhava Seva’; Service to Man is Service to God.

Similarly, being able to sing bhajans is a sacred reward from the Lord Himself forus to serve ourselves towards liberation. Bhajan singing creates a chance for usto experience the truth that God and we are One. So, when we are given this op-portunity, we have to fulfill our dharma as a bhajan singer by singing bhajanswith full of love, adoration and respect for Him. This is why we are asked to un-derstand the meaning of the bhajan and practice it numerous times. When we tru-ly understand the meaning of a bhajan, we tend to revel in the glory of God. Ihave personally experienced this with the bhajan ‘ Sai Matha Pitha Deena BandhuSakha’.  I could feel a sense of gratitude towards Swami while singing this song.I also got a chance to learn that anything can be achieved with true love and dedi-

cation. So singing bhajans with devotion becomes a form of Sathya too.

Beloved brothers and sisters, if we believe we are Swami’  s soldiers, then we haveto act like His soldiers. We have to make sure that we follow the supreme princi-pal ‘ Sathya’ in all out thoughts, words and deeds. We have to always keep inmind that we are fortunate to be in Swami’  s fold. For all the love that He hasshowered upon us, let us thank Him with our pure hearts and deeds. Throughtruthful actions, we too can be transformed into ‘  Narayana’ (God).

“ Let us be a Sai!” “ Let us make a change!”

    Rahmaniac reflection

Wooow!!! It does sounds weird, doesn’ t it? Well, this is none ofany physics law or concept. Want to know exactly what it means?

Just wait … Have you ever heard the song ‘  Enge Pone Raasa” from the movie Maryan? Initially before writing this out, I and my friend Vicky from Perak turned out to be philosophers for sometime trying to find the perfect topic to write about. Finally we end-ed up watching the making of the song. Something was ringing mymind. So I continued till the end. But then I got indulged in thebeautiful process of creating the song. For a student who has been‘ abnormally’ listening to bhajans more than cinema songs, thiswonderful incident has helped me to have a deeper insight of mu-

sic overall. First of all, music is rather a discovery than anything.‘  Ellam Pugazhum Iraivanakke’ has always been said for everyaward got by AR Rahman. For such a globally reckoned guy, hismodesty and humbleness has clearly shown that love is the funda-mental key for god to bless him with lots and lots of success in cre-ating extraordinary music. This implies to us as well, comparing itto bhajans, god is to whom we can pour all our love infinitely. As

swami said, BHA.RA.TA (bhava, raaga, thaala), the first empha- sized on was the feel. How could a song be felt when the singer is feelingless? Sing with love, but tune according to the tone of the song. Bhajans are also of sad, happy, joyful, mysterious, loving, active, asking for forgiveness, slow and also motivating. Theremany talented devotees who sing amazingly but thett thet cannotbear the fruit complately hen the bhava is not there. Like AR Rah-man there are such people who compose songs for god without ex-

pecting anything in return. So, try to feel, then follow Swami’  s rule

    of the 100-

    time-

    bhajan-

singing practice. This is vital for us as foreven professional singers need a lot of practice. Next is, that manymusicians have struggled to get the right tunes for the certain partof the lyrics to really soak the words with the perfect music wherethey can’ t get it back exactly as how they played the best previous-ly. Mr. Kabal, AR Rahman’  s guitarist, have said it once that it ’  sdifficult to get the same feel, touch, and essence as before duringthe composition of the music. So I think this would give a picturewhy we should take bhajans joyfully and enjoy every second in itto sing the glory of the God. Jadhara’  s and tabla’  s are not the only

instruments to play for the bhajans but it ’  s okay to explore moreand bring more gaiety in bhajans like by learning new instruments

fused on who was the musician and singer. This implies to usduring bhajan practices too. Bhajans are wonderful sessionswhere we also become super musicians and talk through music.

It ’  s even beautiful when the chemistry is spontaneously develop-ing during the bhajans. And eventually by God ’  s grace, unityarises under the name of God. Besides, the vibration gets higher

and higher when all the music falls in the right place when it ’  stowards the end. As Bob Marley said, “One good thing aboutmusic, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” From a drummersview, I feel a musician feels inspired and motivated to play thenaal. Honestly, I have no idea how things gets heated up duringthe bhajans but it just happens. But when a singer is singing, wonders of music really do happen where all of us get blendedtogether. Furthermore, in some cases, many people wants to sing, but it will always be a dream. Though many people have made it

realizing bhajans as a good foundation. It even helps studentsactivating their right - side brain where for hours in schools theymostly use their left - side brain for analytical thinking. When both

side of the brains function optimally, it makes a person performoutstandingly. I really thank you swami for showing AR Rahmanas an analogy to compare bhajans with. I think by now you guyswould have really got the word Rahmaniac. Haha!!! Proud to beone. Guys, if you are having problems relating perceiving bha-

jans as a fun thing, well this might help you.

    “The greatness of a

    man is not in how

    much wealth he ac-

    quires, but in his in-

    tegrity and his ability

    to  affect those around

    him positively.”

God is Truth, Truth is Goodness,

Goodness is Beauty, Truth, Goodness, Beauty,

Sathyam, Shivam, Sundaram is yourself. be yourself.

In the Vedas and later  Sutras , the meaning of the word Satya evolves into

an ethical concept about truthfulness and is considered an important virtue.  It

means being true and consistent with reality in one's thought, speech and ac-

tion. Our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has also emphasised on

    SATYA which generally means TRUTH.

Only when a person learns to speak the truth only then he is considered

moving forward in spituality. “ Nothing is higher than the Law of Righteousness

(Dharma). The weak overcomes the stronger by the Law of Righteousness. Tru-

ly that Law is the Truth (Satya). Therefore, when a man speaks the Truth, they

say, "He speaks Righteousness"; and if he speaks Righteousness, they say, "He

speaks the Truth!" For both are one.” In the hearts of every human being there

is a spark of truth , but the main problem is, as human beings we get influenced

by certain situations which forces us to lie or speak untruthfully. These negtive

situations poisons our mind and hearts , thus causing us to lie. The most effec-

tive solution to overcome such situations is to follow our beloved Swamis teach-

ings by following the NINE CODES OF CONDUCT.

Daily meditation and prayer (Jap). Group devotional singing (bhajan) or prayer with family members once a

week.  Participation in Sai Spiritual Education (Bal Vikas Programme) by children

of the family.  Participation in community service work and other programs of the organiza-

    tion.

Regular attendance at the Center's devotional meetings (Bhajan or   Nagar Sankirtan).

Regular study of Sathya Sai Baba literature. The use of soft, loving speech with everyone.

Not speaking ill of others, especially in their absence.  Narayana Seva. Practice placing a ceiling on desires - consciously and con-

tinuously strive to eliminate the tendency to waste time, money, food andenergy - and utilize the savings for service to mankind.

By following the NINE CODES OF CONDUCT set by our beloved

Swami we will be able to experience the inner transformation in ourselves , thus

the habit of lying will automatically stop and then every word spoken by us will

be pure truth. Swami says , “There is in everyone a spark of truth; no one can

live without that spark. There is in everyone a flame of love; life becomes a

    Truth has no fear;

     Untruth shivers atevery shadow.

dark void without it. That spark, that flame is God, for, He is the source of all

truth and all love. Man seeks truth. He seeks to know the reality because his

very nature is derived from God, who is truth. He seeks love, to give it and

share it, for his nature is of God, and God is love.

In another case Swami has also said , “ If you want to know the

way in which you have to observe Sathya or truth in speech, look into the Bha-

gavad Gita (‘ The Celestial Song ’ from the Indian epic ‘  Mahabharata’). It tells

you that the best form of speech is "anudvegakaram vaakyam" (speech that

does not create pain, anger or grief to others). The Shasthras (ancient scrip-

tures) also say, "Sathyam bruyaath, priyam bruyaath na bruyaath Sathyam

apriyam" (Speak the truth; speak the truth pleasingly; never speak truth which

is unpalatable). Simply because a statement will please the listener, don't speak

it out to win the person’  s approval; if speaking truth will cause grief or pain,

then maintain silence." This is the vow of truth in ordinary daily life. If you are

going to speak the truth and that truth is going to hurt somebody , then Swami

says keep that truth to yourself. Hurting somebodys’ feelings is also considereda bad action. So, lets all learn to speak the truth as its not difficult if we follow

all the teachings of our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. BE GOOD,

DO GOOD!! The chief duty of man is investigation into truth. Truth can be

won only through dedication and devotion, and they are dependent on the

grace of God, which is showered only on hearts saturated with love.”

     BRO OMSHIVASHANKAR RAJANDRAN

    Every being in the uni-

    verse has the potential-

    ity of transcending the

    senses. Even the little

    worm will one day

    transcend the senses

    and reach God. No life

    will be a failure. There

    is no such thing as

     failure in the universe.

    THE WINNING SMILE

Once it happened that Krishna, Balarama and Satyaki who werequite little boys at that time, scarce

four or five years old, strayed into athick jungle, all alone. Darkness

fell, and there was no way of reach-ing Gokulam! Of course, as youmust have guessed already, it was a

stratagem of Krishna. Even at thatage, he would do nothing without adeep purpose behind it and the pur-

pose would invariably be teaching someone some good lesson.

They decided to spend the night, just where they were. Krishna put fright into them with his descriptions of ghosts, ghouls, and demons roaming in search of human prey. He proposed that two of them sleep for threehours at a stretch while the other one keeps watch.

It was Krishna’  s duty to keep awake and be on the lookout from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Satyaki was to be vigi-lant from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Balarama was to start his part of the duty at 1:00 a.m. and keep on till

4:00 a.m. Satyaki sat up at ten and Balarama and Krishna laid themselves on beds of dried leaves and slept soundly. Meanwhile a demon did actually present himselfbefore the little Satyaki.

He fell upon the boy, who resisted heroically, dealing andreceiving hammer strokes with fists with a good deal ofclawing and biting in between. The demon had to retreat atlast, leaving Satyaki badly mauled, but happy. The twobrothers were sound asleep. They had not been disturbed inthe least by noise of the encounter. Satyaki had met blowwith blow, and dealt injury for injury. At 1:00, he awak-

ened Balarama and stretched his body on the heap ofleaves, as if nothing had happened.

The demon invited Balarama, too, for combat and had toretreat humiliated, because Balarama too was as fierce as he, and his blows were even more terrible thanSatyaki’  s. Balarama too curled himself into the bed at 4:00 a.m. after awakening Krishna who was to keepwatch in  Brahmamuhurta, the auspicious hour when Gods are to be propitiated, that is, until dawn

The demon came roaring like a wounded tiger, and advanced furiously at the little Divine Boy. Krishnaturned his sweet charming face at him, and rewarded him with a lovely smile. That smile disarmed the de-mon. The longer he came under its influence, the weaker became his vengeance and venom. At last, the de-mon became as docile as a lamb. When the other two awoke, they were surprised at the victory that Krishna

had won by the weapon of Love. You cannot destroy anger by anger, cruelty by cruelty, hatred by hatred. Anger can be subdued only by forbearance. Cruelty can be overcome only by non-violence. Hatred yieldsonly to charity and compassion.

“  WHY DID YOU DISSAPOINT ME SWAMI ??!!!!

    S A I H R U D A Y A V A S I N E

“ Why did you disappoint me Swami ?? !!!! That was the first thought which came in my mind as tears rolled on mycheek at the very moment I got a call from one of my Indone-

sian Sai brother to inform me about Swami who left his mortalcoil . The very same day i was excited that i will be graduating

from my studies after my 5 years journey of education at Ban-dung, Indonesia.

The very same day I was already looking forward and plan-

ning my very first trip to Putthaparthi end of the year which my parents gave a “ green light ” and also as a graduation gift.Confused, shocked, disappointed, heart broken, angry. I was

     just devastated.

Being born in a non Sai family, getting exposed to Sai through avery good friend of mine, since the tender age of 10, it only tookme few months to fall in love with him. .SSSBC of SS3 was myhome centre and Saturday was the most looked forward day ofthe week . Balvikas and bhajans was definitely much more ex-citing then tuition, school, dance classes and family weekend

    outings

Grateful I am to have parents who do not stop me from participating in any Sai activities despitethem being non Sai believers at that point of time. As everybody’  s ultimate goal is to at least seeSwamy in physical form one time , that dream was also mine and I was worried when will that op-

portunity be. Never did i assume that opportunity will only come to me after 15 years of being his“ son” the same year He left his mortal coil.

“ Why did you disappoint me Swami ?? !!!! the same question i asked again and again at Ban-dung Sai Centre during the Samadhi Day special prayers, i was never able to sing , i was neverable to chant any slokas, neither focus...just emotionally disturbed. It was very difficult to digest

the fact that he is no more there despite everybody was trying to convince each other he just phys-ically not there. “Won’ t I be seeing you anymore??”  How unfortunate i am for not being able to see you even once... “Why u had to do this to me??”.. As time goes by accepting the fact that iwouldn’ t be seeing him at this birth and due to some circumstances somehow my first trip to

     Puthaparthi that year got cancelled.

As I always questioned him for not being able to give me the opportunity to see him physically..ihave realised that along my life journey he has never failed to show me his “ presence”  I havelearned that Swami is present everywhere and every time ...

When i was lying in unconsciously in ICU at the hospital with my mum sitting next to me cryingas the doctor said that there is no hope in me surviving when diagnosed with Haemorrhagic

Dengue. I was 23 at the that time. The same moment my dad was praying for the first time in front of Swami’  s little altar which i set up at home ,some honey nectar start appearing on themini paduka which i have placed there.. recalling the miracle stories which I used to share to my

parents that happened with other devotees elsewhere, it triggered my dad to bring it into the ICUand he fed me few sip at the corner of my mouth. Exactly half an hour later when the doctors

came to monitor on my vital signs, yes literally “ It ’  s medical Miracle “..my health im- proved tremendously and after few days I was discharged . This was a great turning point

for my parents as they started believing in Sai and got more involved at centre activities.

Born as human being, we will never be able to run away from Karmic consequences..No onewill have a smooth sailing life and definitely will have some break downs.. Another unfortu-nate event that happened to me is when I met a massive accident .As I was driving back aftera dance performances at Sg Petani, I lost my way ( I was still new to Kedah that point oftime) , i was trying to figure out the roads and find my way. Out of no where , a speedingcar hit my car on my left, my car toppled and rolled over 360 degrees several time, thendragged over the tar road few meters , my car was already on fire due to the friction and ithought i was heading death.in that panic attack, life threatening incident i only could closemy eyes and pray, slightly before plunging into the trench, my car stopped...the factoryworkers who witnessed the scene at that area came to aid and took me out of the car.. the

first question which they ask “ Awak masih hidup ke??” that itself is enough to describe howhorrifying the accident was. Still traumatised I looked on myself ,there weren’ t a single inju-ry or a scratch head to toe. When I touched my chest i felt an object ,like a card. As i insert-ed my hand into my pocket, Swami’  s photo was there. It was actually the small photo ofSwami which i glued on my car dashboard. Yes it was a sign, Swami saved me at the edge ofmy death.

These few incidents has thought me to realise the reason i have been saved ..what ’  s myrole , what ’  s my purpose of life? ..It ’  s a like a wake up call or a loving reminder to keep

doing His work. I felt as if whispered.. “ I am saving you yet again and again, you have a lot My work to do, a lot more to achieve ..more and more, i am not letting you go”...The more ido His work the more he loves me, the more I do his work the more he protects me, themore I think of him he is always with me.

Finally at the age of 26 after saving up from my very own salary i was given a chance ormore of a blessings I would say to make a trip to Puthaparthi with my Indonesian SaiYouths. When I was there I did not feel his absence. I felt his presence everywhere. Duringone of the day while resting in the hostel. A sevadal came knocking our room door. When iopened.. he asked “ Are you Dr Praveen from Malaysia who came with the Indonesian dev-otees??”  I said “ yes” . He handed me a big bag saying that it ’  s a gift for me. Puzzled I

asked the Sevadal who gave this and why me, he explained that Swami gave to him to pass itto me as a gift when i come Puthaparthi , apparently Swami also told him that i am sup-

posed to come in the year 2011 but would not make it that year and i will definitely come inthe year 2013 instead. which had Swami’  s half body framed photo and signature below, abig container of vibuthi, a locket with Swami’  s and Shirdi’  s images and draft of a book

signed by him which wasn’ t published yet entitled ,

“ Why did you disappointed me, Swami??”

Sai Ram dear all. Ramayana can be said to be a book, or a guide to theway how man should live his life. It comprises all the human values andcodes of conduct that our Balvikas teachers instilled in us. Therefore, sinceour Sai Hrudaya Vasine is on Satya, let's just dwell on some points onTruth portrayed in this Divine Epic.

    The Subtle Truth of Ramayana

The Ramayana has very subtle Truth embedded in it. The Epic rst of all

expounds the dues of the individual. In the everyday world, any person's

form is termed as an individual. The dues of individual taught in the Ra-

mayana is not relang to the external form of this individual. The Unmani-

fest, immanent and hidden human values are the essence of Ramayana.

The inner reality and the Divine resident in the heart constute the true

individuality. Individual does not mean the form; the individual in acon is

    the true individual. ( SSS Vol.34 p. 71-72 )

Profound Secrets and Truth - Rama displayed equanimity

The basic elements are common to all mankind. The world itself in one

family. All men are brothers. Rama preached to the world this basic Truth.

He taught the world the dues of everyday life, social dues and family

obligaons. This triple stream of Dues are the Messages of Ramayana.

Whoever bathes in this triple stream is absolved of his sins and is re-

deemed. Such great work that Ramayana has to be read, reread and lived

    up to by everyone. ( SSS Vol.30 p.92 )

Swami says, " Put teachings of Ramayana into practice ".

The Ramayana demonstrates that anything can be achieved through sin-cerity and devotion. The story of Ramayana is so enchanting and captivat-ing that one feels like listening to it again and again. Bharathiyas havebeen singing the story of Ramayana since the ancient times. Everyone

should try to understand the essence of Ramayana. The Ramayana teachesthat one should have good character, one should obey the command of the

father and respect their parents, and there should be unity among brothers. If you follow this teachings in letter and spirit, YOUR LIFE ITSELF WILL BECOME A LIVING RAMAYANA! ( SSS Vol.32 Part1 p.110 )

    As close as

    you are to

    GOD, so closeis GOD to

    you.

Bobattulu or Poli is a very popular sweet in Maharasthra. Bob-batlu is one of the traditional sweets of Andhra which are pre-

pared for festivals or occasions. Usually for Poli or Bobattulu

the filling is prepared with ‘ chana dal ’ or lenthil and sugar andthe outer layer (dough) is prepared with wheat flour.

Did you know: Bobattulu is one of Swami’  s favourite snack!

    1.  Cook the lentil in a cup of water in a pressure cooker till it becomes soft and mushy. Once cool, grind to a fine

paste.Heat a pan and add the lentil paste and sugar. Cook until they blend and form a lump so that you can pre-

     pare small balls for stuffing.

    2.   Add cardamom powder and pinch of salt and mix well. Turn off heat and cool. Prepare small lemon sized balls

with this lentil mixture and keep aside.

    3.   Mix refined flour, pinch of salt, 2 tablespoon of oil and enough water to make very soft and sticky dough. Knead

    well.

    4.  Grease your hands with oil to knead the dough and take a small portion of the dough and flatten it into a disc of

the size of your palm. Place a “ sweet lentil ball ” in the centre and draw the edges of the dough from all sides to

cover the ‘  sweet lentil ball ’ completely.

    5.  Take a sheet of transparent plastic wrap and gently flatten each ball carefully with your fingers to form a 6″ to

    8″ diameter flat circular bobattulu.

    6.   Fry it on low flame on a hot griddle. Roast both sides till brown spots appear.

    7.  Smear with ghee on both sides when done. Serve warm with clarified butter/ghee.

    INGREDIENTS

    * 1 cup of split lenl (soaked in wa-

ter for 2 hours and drained)

    * 1 cup of sugar (adjustable)

    * 1 1/4 cups of rened wheat our

    * enough water to prepare dough

    * 3-4 tablespoons of oil

    * 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom pow-

Loving Sai Ram SHV Readers, this time, SHV presents you a fewcelebrations that are widely celebrated …

Ratri means “night ” and Nava means “nine”. At Navaratri(“nine nights”), the Lord in the form of the Mother Goddess is wor-

shipped in Her various forms as Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. Thoughthe Goddess is one, She is represented and worshipped in three differentaspects. On the first three nights of the festival, Durga is worshipped.

On the following three, Lakshmi and then Saraswati Devi on the lastthree nights. The following tenth day is called Vijayadasami. Vijayameans “victory”, the victory over our own minds that can come onlywhen we have worshipped these three: Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati.

Durga To gain noble virtues, all evil tendencies in the mind must be de-

stroyed. This destruction is represented by the Goddess Durga. Durga isdurgati harini: “She who removes our evil tendencies.” This is why sheis called Mahishasura Mardini, the destroyer of Mahishaasura (demon),

    mahisha meaning “buffalo

The buffalo stands for tamoguna, the quality of laziness, darkness, ignorance and inertia. We have these qualities too. We love to sleep. Alt-hough we may have a lot of energy and potential inside us, we prefer todo nothing - just like the buffalo that likes to lie in pools of water. In the

Puraanic story, Durga Devi’  s killing of the Mahisha demon is, symboli-cally, the destruction of the tamoguna within us that is very difficult todestroy. In the Durga Devi Havana (sacrifice), we invoke that Divine

Power within us to destroy our animalistic tendencies.

Lakshmi   For knowledge to dawn within us, we have to prepare our minds.

The mind must be pure, concentrated, and single- pointed; this purifica-tion of the mind is obtained through the worship of Lakshmi Devi.

     We should realize

    that man has not

    only a mind which

    conceives thoughts,

    but also a heart

    which can put them

    into practice.

    P a g e 2 9  V o l u m e 1 , I s s u e 4

In our society today, however, when we think of Lakshmi, we think only of money - countinggold and dollar bills! This is why if one goes to a Lakshmi temple, one will find a crowd. Every-

body likes Lakshmi Puja (Lakshmi worship) because they think she represents material wealth. But what is real wealth? Even if we have material wealth but no self -discipline or self -control, northe values of love, kindness, respect and sincerity, all our material wealth will be lost or destroyed. The real wealth is the inner wealth of spiritual values that we practice in our lives, by which ourminds become purified. Only when we have these noble values will we be able to preserve our ma-terial wealth and make good use of it. Otherwise money itself becomes a problem.

In the Upanishads, the Rishis never asked for material wealth only. The Rishis also expressthat in the absence of right values and good qualities, all our money will be wasted, and there arecountless examples of this in the world around us.

Our wealth of virtues is our true Lakshmi. Its importance is shown by the fact that Adi

Shankaracharya himself, in Vivekachudamani, describes that sat sampati, or six forms of wealth(calmness of mind, self -control, self withdrawal, forbearance, faith and single- pointed ness) thatare to be cultivated to attain wisdom. These virtues are important because our goal is victory overthe mind - a victory such that we do not get disturbed by every change that takes place in ourlives. This victory comes only when the mind is prepared, and this mental preparation is the sym-bolism of the Lakshmi Puja.

Saraswati  Victory over the mind can

be gained only throughknowledge, through under-standing; and it is Goddess Sar-aswati who represents thishighest knowledge of the Self.

Although there are manykinds of knowledge in the Vedas- phonetics astronomy, archery, architecture, economics and soon - the real knowledge is in the

spiritual knowledge. LordKrishna himself says in theBhagavad Gita: “Theknowledge of the Self is theknowledge”; and He adds, “ Itis my vibhuti, my glory.” In oth-er words, we may have knowledge of many other subjects and sciences but if we do not know ourown Self, then that is the greatest loss. Therefore the supreme knowledge is the knowledge of theSelf that is represented by Goddess Saraswati.

It is said in the scriptures that one can realize the Self through sadhana, seva, satsang and

the Guru’  s grace. These nine days are an opportunity to be completely in sadhana, seva, satsangand of course, the grace of the Master is already with us.

To dispel the dark-ness of disease, you have to install the light of health. To get over thedarkness of losses and failures, you have to usher in the light of pros-

perity. There are many legends behind the celebration of Deepavali. For ex-ample, the returning of rama, lakshmana and sita to ayodha or thevictory of Krishna destroying naragasurar. In some parts of india, deepavali means harvest festival.

     Rama Return to Ayodhya

Rama, the ancient idol of the heroicages, the embodiment of truth, of mo-rality, the ideal son, the ideal hus-band, and above all, the ideal king.

After ten days of fierce war with Ravana, the victorious Rama, Lax-mana and Sita preapared to return to

Ayodhya. There was joyous shouts ofVictory to Rama, Gods from the Heaven poured flowers and garlandsto celebrate and show their pleasure.

Here in Ayodhya, Bharata, Ram's beloved brother, eagerly waited forthe arrival of Rama, Laxmana and Sita. He had counted every day ofthose fourteen years that Rama had to suffer in forest as a result ofhis mother's folly. He had ruled as the representative Rama, livinglike a monk - sanyasi.

Bharata encouraged people of Ayodhya to celebrate the return of Ra-ma with pomp and show. Actually there was no need to pass any or-

der. The whole Ayodhya was eager to welcome her heroes. The wholecity was decorated with flowers and garlands. Every house adoredbeautiful look of cleanliness and was lighted with candles and lamps.

There was mad rush to see Rama first. Bharata and Rama hugged each other, tears flowing downheir eyes. Rama inquired about the well - being of Kaikeyi first, then about his mother Kaushalyaand Sumitra. Soon, Rama was given his due honour as King of Ayodhya. Formal sacrificial ceremo-ny was performed with gaiety and pomp and Rama ruled Ayodhya wisely. Everyone including ani-mals and trees were happy and contented.

Killing of Narakasura Narakasura ruled the kingdom of Pradyoshapuram. Puranas have it that Naraka, son of Bhudevi, acquired immense power from a blessing given by Lord Brahma after a severe penance. Under hisule, the villagers suffered a lot of hardship as the demon tortured the people and kidnapped the

women to be imprisoned in his palace with his invincible might.Unable to bear the tyranny of the demon, the celestial beings pleadedwith Lord Krishna to save them from his torture. But Naraka had a boonhat he would face death only at the hands of his mother Bhudevi. So,

Krishna asks his wife Sathyabhama, the reincarnation of Bhudevi, to behis charioteer in the battle with Naraka. When Krishna fell unconscious after being hit by an arrow of Naraka,Sathyabhama takes the bow and aims the arrow at Naraka, killing himnstantly. Later Lord Krishna reminds her of the boon she had sought as

Bhudevi. The Narakasura Vadh by Sathyabhama could also be taken to

nterpret that parents should not hesitate to punish their children whenhey step in to the wrong path. The message of Naraka Chaturdashi Parva is that the good of the societyhould always prevail over one's own personal bonds. It is interesting to

note that Bhudevi, mother of the slain demon Naraka, declared that hisdeath should not be a day of mourning but an occasion to celebrate and rejoice. It is said LordKrishna had an oil bath to rid himself off the blood spattered on his body when Naraka was killed. The tradition is followed and people offer prayers on the previous day of the Naraka Chaturdashi tohe vessel in which water is being heated for having bath. Hindus light fireworks, which are regard-

ed as the effigies of Narakasura who was killed on this day…

     Divine Discourse: 23 November 1997

Today, thousands of people have gathered here. What has broughtthem together here? Love is the main cause. Without love, few of youwould have come from such distant places (cheers). How does thislove express itself? It is a process of give and take. You have to re-ceive God's love, and you have to offer your love. But both are oneand the same love. God's love is reflected in your bodies. That is themeaning of the Gita declaration: "A fragment of Mine is present ineveryone in the cosmos." Today, this body enters on its seventy- first year. This body is made up

of the five elements and is essentially impermanent. Do not attachmuch importance to the body. Take to heart the Love principle that isbeing conveyed to you. My entire life is filled with love (cheers). Ihave never put anyone at any time to any kind of suffering. I havenever done any harm to anyone. I have hated no one. I have no aver-sion to anybody. What is the reason? It is my love that is transform-ing others. I am now seventy-one. But no one can know what ac-counts for my condition. I may act as if I am angry on some occa-sions; however, the anger does not stem from the heart but is con-

fined to the tongue. From head to foot, I am filled only with love. It

is this love that has attracted the whole world.  I do not desire anything. I have three P's: Purity, Patience, and Per-

severance. It is these three that have secured the world's regard. Noinvitations were issued to those who have gathered here. Swami'slove alone attracted them all like a magnet. Some may ask why theyare not attracted to Swami if that magnet is so powerful. The reasonis that these people are like rusted iron, which no magnet can attract.

Let them remove the rust and dust ,and they will be drawn to themagnet. Their hatred and desires, their envy and greed are the rustand dust that cover them. If you cleanse yourselves of these, wherev-

er you are, you will be mine and I will be yours. The hapless and the forlorn, wherever they may be, are the concern of Sai. Promote sa-cred love in your hearts. That love will not only redeem your lives butwill promote the well being of all around you. You need not offer anything except your love. In Prashanthi Nilayamno offerings are permitted. Only love is allowed entry.

     Divine Discourse: 23 November 1996

We celebrate birthday. What is this birthday? Whose birthday? Wesay my birthday. Who am I? You don't ask that question. You say mybirthday because you identify yourself with the body. But later yousay it is my stomach. If you say my stomach, then who are you? Yousay my senses, my mind, my intellect, then who am I? You are sepa-rate. This is my kerchief. kerchief. When you say my body, you and the body are different. Therefore, the body, mind, senses, intellect --all are instruments. But you are the master of all these. That is I. Make an ef-

    fort to recognize that I.

It is the 70th birthday of this body. You have to know one important thing. Swami does not needanything. He does not expect any dress. Swami belongs to you. Swami is not separate from you.You are not separate from Swami. That is the intimate relation between Swami and you. Right from this day our organization should expand and spread all over the world. We shouldforget individual differences and keep in view the welfare of society. The welfare of society isour welfare. Let it be in any village, region, or country, we should participate in all activities. Embodiments of love! Participants from 175 countries have assembled here today. So many have congregated. Whatwork are we doing now? We have to inquire clearly. Our quality lies in our work. There are

bound to be poor people in your respective countries. They are God in the form of poor people(the daridra Narayanas). You serve that God (Narayana). What is the use of serving God, whohas everything (Sriman Narayan)? God has so many servants to serve Him. You don't need toserve Him. There are the poor and the needy, who are the embodiments of God. Serve them. We should not hate any religion. The followers of all religions should behave like brothers andsisters. You practice such an ideal and give happiness to Swami. Many foreigners said, '"HappyBirthday, Happy Birthday" in the morning. Swami is always happy. Swami does not need yourhappiness. You be happy. Happiness is union with God. If you want to be happy, join God. Thenyou can be happy. You should follow a new path right from this day. You should spend a happy time in unity, coor-

dination, and integration. You should experience divinity in all. That is true bliss. It is not hap-piness if it is from comforts and conveniences. They are just passing clouds, coming and going. You should achieve the bliss that neither comes nor goes. Love is the only path to reach thatgoal of bliss.

KARTIGHAIKarthigai Deepam happens to be an important and auspicious occasion in Tamil calendar. MostTamils respect this occasion when Lord Muruga was born. The household matters are takencare of and lamps are lit almost every part of the house to bring peace and prosperity. The wom-

an worship to bring happiness in the lives of their children and ward off all the troubles in life.

Spiritual Significance of Karthigai Deepam The functioning of lamp implies a great spiritual notion. The wick in the lamp symbolizes ourego and the oil that is used to light the lamp denotes ourinnate nature that is responsible for the ego to thrive. Theflame, the spiritual knowledge has the capacity to blazeour ego, the wick by emptying our innate tendencies. Thisis the significance of Karthigai Deepam.

Lights symbolize the victory of the good over the evil. Peo-ple try to make their homes protected from evil eyes andevil forces. They want to bring in peace and prosperity inthe families for life. They pray honestly to God to give

them good feelings for other human beings. Lamps CAN give the power to shed of fear and bring in victory in the lives of people.

Legends associated with Karthigai Deepam  Lord Shiva was very depressed after Parvati's death and secludedhim in deep meditation. During this time, six babies including Lord

Muruga, Kartik and Subrahmaniya were born as children of Lord Shiva. Parvati became Sati so Krittika stars looked after the six ba-bies. Later on the force of Sati joined the six babies into one being or

great force. The krittika star cluster becomes seven when the Muru- ga God joins them.

Muruga later on acted as a teaching guide to Shiva, according to an-other famous legend. He taught Shiva the actual meaning of theword "Om" which is very important in Hindu culture. The lamps al-so represent that Lord Shiva understood the actual meaning of theultimate word "Om". He was enlightened by knowing the value ofthe word. Tamils want to live in peace and enjoy the best of life. Theywant to stay away from all sorts of worries and quarrels. Lamps arelighted everywhere to give them the power to say no to all bad temp-tations in life.

Parvati fought with Mahisasura as he was disturbing her and theother Gods in heaven. Her victory was also celebrated by lightinglamps. This festival represents the victory of the good over the evil

forces. People always want to stay away from bad things and thelights lamps to bring in wealth and well being in the family.

Nowadays, The people use a range of lamps of various shapes, sizesand colors . The lamps are easily available in the market. The wom-en prepare the oil and the wick to make the lamps glow for a longtime. The main idea is to enjoy to the fullest and forget all the suffer-

ings of life. Women take the lamps in their alms and move aroundthe house to spread the feeling of joy. Hanging lamps and importedvarieties are also available in this age of globalization.

Life is short and must be spent in a happy way. People worship to Lord Shiva to give them power to fulfill all the activities in life in anhonest manner. The lamp actually represents linga of Shiva that re-minds people over and over again about the fact of staying on theright path. People keep lamps in the places of the home where the

pictures of God are kept. Temples of South India look amazing withwonderfully lit lamps almost everywhere.

Science and technology have progressed a lot but the Hindu ritualsand belief will keep mankind involved in every way. Even the best

    Light has to be

    switched on in the

    heart of man, rather

    than in the house

    where images of lord

    is installed and wor-

    shipped.

scientists and doctors know the significance of such great festivals. They come back home dur-ing this time to be with the family and share their joys and sorrows. People shed of all the mis-understandings and quarrels and unite during this wonderful festival of lights. This festival rep-

resents giving and sharing among humans. Wearing new clothes, shoes and praying in front ofGod gives people the power to start life in a new way during the coming year.

    CHRISTMAS

The Significance of Christmas is known to men, all over the world. Though it is true that

Christmas is celebrated as the day of the Birth of Christ into this world, yet it also symbolizes avery deeply significant truth of the spiritual life. Jesus Christ is the very personification of Di-vinity. He was born at a time when ignorance, superstition, greed, hatred and hypocrisy pre-vailed upon the land. Purity was forgotten and morality was neglected.

In the midst of these conditions, Christ was born and He worked a transformation in the lives ofpeople. He gave a new and a spiritual turn to the lives of man. There came a change upon theland. People started upon a new way of life. Thus a new era dawned for the world.

In that period the seeker has no thought of God or higher spiritual life. He lives a life of lust,

anger, greed, deluded attachment, pride and jealousy. If the seeker must enter into a new life ofspiritual aspiration, purity and devotion, then the Christ -spirit must take its birth within hisheart. That is the real Christmas when the Divine element begins to express itself in the heart ofthe man. From then onward, light begins to shine where darkness was before.A very small, but very beautiful, point of deep significance is attached to Christmas. It is thetime and the manner of the birth of the Lord upon the holy Christmas day. Jesus Christ was notborn in a grand palace. He was not born to very wealthy or learned parents. Jesus Christ wasborn in a simple lowly place, a corner of a stable. He was born to humble and poor parents, whohad nothing to boast about, except their own spotless character and holiness.

The above point of deep significance tells that the spiritual awakening comes to the seeker, whois perfectly humble and "meek" and "poor in spirit." The quality of true humility is one of theindispensable fundamentals. Then we find simplicity, holiness and the renunciation of all desirefor worldly wealth and pride of learning. Thirdly, even as Christ was born unknown to theworld and in the obscurity of darkness, even so, the advent of the Christ -spirit takes place in theinwardness of man when there is total self -effacement self -abnegation.

How Sathya Sai Baba Saved Dr. Hislop From Calamity

Dr. John Hislop shares this stunning personal experience, where

     Sathya Sai Baba

out of His grace intervened to save his life, in his book  “  My Baba and I ”:

One evening in 1973, we left Brindavan about 8 p.m. to return to Bangalore. There were five of us in the taxi, plus the driver. The Bangalore road has only two lanes. Some miles from Brindavan we overtook a bus. Although the driver of our taxi saw some lightsahead. He estimated there was plenty of time to pass the bus. He could not have beenmore mistaken –  the lights ahead were of a car moving at a very high speed towards us.

At this point in time and space, the simple action of passing a bus had escalated into asituation of terrifying potential, that of a fatal head -on collision. In this particular area, the layout of the road was also deadly. The road was under repair, and there was a highbank of dirt and rocks covering the side of the road. Thus, there was no possibility of theoncoming car being able to swerve off the road. We, too, could not take evasive action,

for the bus was on our left and the road -repair material on our right, and by this timethe oncoming car was directly in front of us. A foolish driver in that car and an equally

     foolish driver in our taxi!

Of course, at the time of the impending crash, there was no time for his analysis; the in-cident sort of exploded upon us without warning. The lights of the oncoming car nowstruck directly into the windscreen of our taxi. The cars could not have been more than

a second or so apart. We were stunned. Not one of us recollected Baba or called him. We felt we were as good as dead, and we instinctively tensed for the crash. But at that verymoment something happened that was without rational explanation.

At one moment the two cars were upon each other, about to be smashed in a fatal head -on collision. The very next moment, the oncoming car was behind us, and we were con-tinuing to pass the bus with a clear road ahead. Looking backward, we could see the re-ceding red tail lamp of the other car. There was no crash. There was no lapse of time;there had been no possibility of a last -moment manoeuver. The next day we drove out to

Brindavan as usual about 8 a.m. so as to be waiting on the veranda for Baba to appear

for morning Darshan. As soon as He came into the room, I touched the Lotus Feet andsaid, “ We want to thank Baba for saving our lives last night.”

Baba smiled and said, “ Yes, that was a close one. You were so shocked that not even oneof you called for Swami! But, Swami saved you anyway.”  Then He turned to a group ofmen and in Telugu told them the entire story of the incident.I then said, “  Swami, youmust have altered time and space in order to save us.”   Baba just smiled and did not an-swer.

In 1978, I happened to meet Joe King, one of our fellow taxi passengers. It was in New

York, where he lives. He asked, “

Were you ever able to figure out what happened thattime in the taxi?”

I smiled, shook my head, and said, “  No.”
