1
Siddhartha’s Journeys There are two parts in this assignment. The Map (40 points) Mapping the Journey (Part I) The aspects of Siddhartha’s journey includes the places he goes, his health and lifestyle at the time, his physical surroundings, and the basic actions that he performs. It also includes the changes in what he believed to be true and false, as well as other philosophical beliefs. He learns from the journey; through the people and the experience. Create a map indicating the places Siddhartha has visited and the topography of those places. Label each location and use a key to identify topography features. In addition to labeling the places, include a short (50-75 words) description of Siddhartha’s mental and spiritual state at each location on the map. Be sure to include what he has learned and how is he changed on his journey. This portion of the project will be graded on the following components: 1) All locations are accurately labeled and placed 2) All topography is accurately illustrated and explained in a key 3) Written text accurately describes Siddhartha’s mental and spiritual state 4) Overall aesthetic appeal The Process Analysis Essay (Part 2) The Spiritual Aspect (60 points) The spiritual journey of Siddhartha describes his peace, happiness, and enlightenment. This encompasses his emotional and spiritual state, and his satisfaction with life, and how close he is to attaining Nirvana. Write a process analysis essay that shows a novice how to attain Nirvana. Use exemplification to add detail to each step. Remember that “nirvana” is based on your own creation and definition. Do not simply copy the Eightfold Path and Four Truths. Define Nirvana first, then instruct using steps. (~ 750 words) For this part, feel free to be creative in how you present this essay. Some students in the past have created a “how to” manual and others have written this essay as an informational pamphlet.
