SIESTA KEY BEACH ACCESS #3 AND #12 TRUCK ACCESS, PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS, DRAINAGE RETROFIT AND DERELICT STRUCTURES REMOVAL Sarasota, Florida Summary: Erickson Consulting Engineers, Inc., (ECE) was commissioned by Sarasota County to provide civil and coastal engineering services for the design, engineering, permitting and preparation of construction documents for the construction of a truck access route and existing parking lot improvements. The design included a soil-reinforced truck access route through the existing site drainage, to be utilized for beach seaweed removal, as well as addressing site stormwater conveyance issues and pavement section improvements to the existing parking area. Additional improvements were managed by ECE for a second beach access point on Siesta Key to remove concrete rubble and rebar debris along the beach, which was the product of an old seawall removal. This site is a public beach access which had to be closed due to the hazardous nature of the debris. These projects were located within the Coastal Construction Control Line as well as within the Gulf Beach Setback Line, prompting both Coastal Construction Control Line permitting with the State and a Gulf Beach Setback Variance for the truck access soil reinforcement system with the County. Key Project Elements: Core Borings & Geotechnical Analysis Coastal Vegetation Conservation Plans (Removal and Replacement) Sediment QA/QC Plan Drainage System Design Grading & Site Drainage Plans Design of a Geotextile Reinforcement of the Dune Area for Truck Access Estimation of Quantities, Costs, & Construction Schedules Coastal Construction Control Line Permitting Environmental Resource Permitting Sarasota County Coastal Setback Variance Preparation of Construction Plans & Specifications
