Changing the world, one life at a time.
Project BODY, which aims to improve and increase physical
activity in children between the ages of 8 and 11. This will be
done through an extra-curricular activities club and structured
playtime which include games and activities.
These programmes are designed to show children that
exercise can be enjoyable as well as social. Also, we aim to
improve the nutritional lifestyle of children, by leading
smoothie workshops to engage children whilst changing their
perspectives about fruits and vegetables. With the help of an
external advisor, we plan to introduce bicycle powered
smoothie makers; enabling children to produce healthy drinks
in a fun and productive way.
As well as encouraging children to adopt an active lifestyle;
we aim to educate parents of the current health problems
existing within their local community, by liaising with a local
dietician.
Won £200 Enterprise Rent-A-Car Diversity Grant
Structured playtime sessions
We chose to work with Eva Organisation for Women (EOW), set up by
Sadiyo Siad, a Phd student. EOW empower and support women to positively
impact the world in which they live.
We made an initial assessment and mutually agreed to consult in:
fundraising, marketing, recruitment, financing, and sponsorship. We are
giving the tools needed to fulfil their goal of empowerment and to become
a registered charity.
In the short term, we have implemented a fast-turnover fundraising
strategy selling Krispy Kreme donuts, with a profit of over £305. These funds
were then used to provide resources for their International Women’s Day
Conference.
We are creating a long lasting partnership with Wigston Queen Elizabeth I
College to provide EVA with a steady stream of volunteers and fundraising
opportunities, to allow Sadiyo to continue her work even after she
graduates from University.

PROJECT BODY
CONSULTANCY
Our initial ChocoNet needs assessment found that the
Midlands being home to approximately 9,000 refugees.
This year, we have built on these statistics by spending time
talking to the leaders of St Martin's House refugee projects,
to discover that many refugees in Leicester have very low
personal confidence.
SIFE Leicester is working together with 12 refugees to create a
successful chocolate business, which acts as an interactive
training platform for the refugees to gain new skills and apply
them in a safe environment and a practical manner.
To develop personal confidence we are focussing on team
building exercises to build lasting relationships with our
refugees as well running a mentorship programme to impart
financial planning, project management and health & safety
training.

2011/12 PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
INSPIRE ETHIOPIA
Commencing with Gondar in Ethiopia, SIFE Leicester, in partnership with
Alchemy World will begin by delivering essential entrepreneurship workshops in
June 2012. We will assist in initiating Gondar’s first enterprise society uniting
students in their first ever student led enterprise initiative. SIFE Leicester has
begun to create a sustainable link between SIFE Leicester and Gondar University to allow further developments of SIFE
projects which seek to provide solutions for vast problems which communities in Ethiopia face on a daily basis. Both
teams will spend time developing existing links with local charities and researching agriculture, natural resources and
investigating the various needs and struggles in the local area. We have set up a pen-pal system, regular Skype
meetings and resources through the Gondar Link, to provide support for the new society in its early development
stages.
FARMERS’ MARKET
Our Farmer’s Market has sustained its success from last year as well as forming
relationships with the Saffron Acres Project; a project that has transformed an
area of wasteland into a thriving community resource. We hope to invite their
young project members – many of whom have disabilities - on to campus, giving
them a chance to sell the vegetables they have grown, and to give them an insight
into student life, showing that education is accessible to everybody.
Our last market saw 550 unique visitors pass through our doors, and a survey
conducted showed that 76% of attendees were excited for our next market.
