INTRODUCTION

7-Eleven is the largest convenience store chain in the world. Maintenance of our brand is of

utmost importance to the corporation. The consistent application of these standards in all new

construction and remodeled 7-Eleven locations will ensure that our current and potential

guests can expect the same exceptional retail experience that we are known for.

Consistency in the use of the colors and design component standards has the advantage of

assisting in the legal protection of our trademark against accidental or deliberate infringement

by competitors. A great amount of detail has been put into establishing the Image Standards

as unique, recognizable, and long lived. Alterations to the Trademark are not permitted.

Adherence to these standards has the added benefit of allowing operators to focus on guest

service and other business building activities. The wise use of the available components of the

Standards promotes an adequate and economical use of signage expense.

Major Changes

7-Eleven is currently making a number of changes to the proportions and color specifications

associated with the tri-stripe signage. The two major changes in the signage standards are as

described below:

1. Change in the shape of the logo panel in the store front signage. The shape of the logo

panel in the fascia signage has been changed from square to rectangle. This provides more

white area to the panel and highlights the '7' better. The logo panel also appear brighter while

using the same amount of lighting.

1.3 TRI-STRIPE LOGO

Application

The above logo is currently used globally except in Canada as the sign cabinet still doesn’t

have the CUL certification. So Canada still uses the old tri-stripe design. This sign is

currently manufactured by a Japanese company called Tateyama and they manufacture

only a 2’ tall version. They will start producing the 3’ version sometime in 2013.

2.1 BUILDING IDENTITY SIGNS The preferred identity sign for the building is the tri-stripe sign. However, some jurisdictions

may not allow that and in those cases we may need to use the keystone logo or channel

letters.

2.1.1 TRI-STRIPE LOGO PANEL INSTALLATION GUIDELINES SPECIFICATIONS SIGNAGE: 2012 TRI-STRIPE DESIGN IN US & OLD TRI-STRIPE DESIGN IN CANADA BRONZE COLORED ACM (ALUMINUM COMPOSITE MATERIAL) PANEL

GUIDELINES General Requirement For all stores

1. We will try to put as much signage as allowed by the local jurisdiction. However, we

should not extend the signage to the very end of each side but should leave a decent

amount of break at the ends.

Confidential

36

2. The 7-Eleven logo should always be centered between the stripes. In other words, the

striped cabinets on either side of the logo will be of equal length.

3. If there is an awning that is required by Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) or one that

we do not want to remove, that would block the placement of signage, two sets of signs

can be placed on either side (each must contain a logo panel).

4. The sign should be centered on the ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) when an

ACM is used.

5. Signage can be installed on a mansard roof but will have to install steel backer frames

first.

6. The smallest size of fascia signage we can have with the Tateyama signs will be the

logo panel/cabinet at the center, one stripe panel/cabinet on each side, and two end

sections (in the illuminated version).

7. The tri-stripe signs always use the “7-Eleven logo without the green border”.

8. The sign panels should be butted against each other. If they are separated by any kind

of dividers, they lose the UL rating and therefore cannot be installed. Also a zig zag

arrangement of the panels is not allowed.

9. In jurisdictions where a permit for the illuminated sign cannot be obtained, use unlit tri-

stripe logo sign using 3M vinyl stripes on ACM.

10. If no stripe can be permitted, use approved channel letters, keystones, blade signs, or

cube signs.

11. Do not mix Channel Letters and Stripe signs. Use one or the other.

New Store, Group Acquisition & Single Store Acquisition

1. Will receive 2012 tri-stripe sign (2’ high) in the US. Canadian stores will get the old tri-

stripe sign because the current tri-stripe signs manufactured by Tateyama do not have

Canadian UL approval yet.

2. For stores purchased from Licensees that already have 7-Eleven signage, the existing

signs will be kept. In the event the fascia is broken or damaged, it may be replaced with

a like fascia or a 2012 tri-stripe fascia.

Confidential

37

CMR

1. If the existing lit sign is not a 2012 tri-stripe sign, the sign face will be replaced with a

2012 tri-stripe sign face (both US and Canada). If the sign lighting is not LED already, it

will be replaced with the LED (currently GE kit).

2. If the existing sign is an unlit old tri-stripe design, the following options should be

pursued:

a. If we can get permit for a lit sign, install a brand new 2012 tri-stripe sign (US) or

old tri-stripe sign (Canada).

b. If we cannot get permit for a lit sign, the existing stripes will be removed and new

2012 tri-stripe design will be installed (both US & Canada).

2.1.2 OLD STYLE FASCIA SIGNS

A vast majority of our stores have the old style fascia signs as shown below. It has one logo

section, a number of stripe sections, and two end sections.

The 2012 tri-stripe design sign manufactured by Tateyama does not yet have Canadian UL

(CUL) certification and therefore cannot be used in Canada. So Canada continues to use the

old style fascia signs.

2.2.8 POLE & MONUMENT SIGN INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

New Stores

1. The sign must be attached between two bronze colored (pantone #19-1116) poles so

that the interval between the pole tops and the sign top retains the original 7-Eleven

“saddle” configuration.

2. In the first tier, use keystone logo whenever possible.

3. In the second tier, use food product (Fresh Food) shot whenever possible. Use “Oh

Thank Heaven” (Text Version) if food product shot can’t be used.

4. In the third tier, use the gas/diesel signs if it is a gas store.

5. In the fourth tier, use ancillary signs if desired for a gas store. For a non-gas store

ancillary signs are used on the third tier.

6. For 7-Eleven branded fuel in the US, the electronic price signs are integrated with the

RIS and will automatically change when Store Managers accept the prices set by the

gasoline team in Dallas on the RIS.

7. For 7-Eleven branded fuel in Canada, the electronic gas price signs are not integrated

with the RIS. So the price has to be changed using a separate control box. Also in

Canada, the pole signs have no place for diesel prices.

CMR

1. Pole signs and monument signs are not replaced for CMR stores.

Group Acquisition & Single Store Acquisition

1. New 7-Eleven pole and monument signs are to be installed as permitted. All new

signage should have LED lighting in them.

2. For branded gas locations, the 7-Eleven sign should be of the same size as the branded

sign whether it be a pole sign or a monument sign.

3. The LED sign is a utility rebate eligible item. Please work with the following vendors to

obtain rebates:

General Requirement For All Stores

1. If the store has 2012 tri-stripe building sign, use 2’ wide ACM with 2012 tri-stripe design

for gas canopy as well. The keystone will be 2’x2’. The white portions before and after

the keystone will be 2’ long each. At the end of the side leave a 2’ long white space as

well. If the existing ACM is wider, a 3’ or 4’ wide stripes and keystones may be used.

2. If the store has old design tri-stripe sign, the gas canopy sign will use the old standard

(i.e. old style stripes and 3’x3’ keystone).

3. The keystone and stripes should be on 3 sides. On the 4th side (facing the store), there

should be stripes but no keystone. The stripe on the 4th side should leave a 2’ white

space at both ends. There is an exception to this. If the side facing the store is off-

center and is highly visible to the street, that side will also have the standard signage.

2.4.4 CAR WASH SIGN GUIDELINES

Charnann Cox, US Car Wash Manager (Phone: 972-828-7854, E-mail: [email protected])will be an alternate contact if further information is needed for car wash signage.

New Stores

1. Currently the price kit is sent to the store managers and it is generally lost. In the future,

it should be sent to the Store Readiness team for the store.

CMR

1. The existing car wash building sign is not replaced for CMR stores. However, if the

vinyl stripes have faded, remove and install new vinyl stripes.

Group Acquisition & Single Store Acquisition

1. Keep as much non-branded signage as possible. When a sign is to be replaced,

consider a like-sized sign to keep the cost down.

2. New car wash menu board needs to be installed.

3. Currently the price kit is sent to the store managers and it is generally lost. In the future,

it should be sent to the Store Readiness team for the store.

4. New 7-Eleven pole and monument signs are to be installed as permitted. All new

signage should have LED lighting in them. The LED sign is a utility rebate eligible item.

2.5 WINDOW SIGNS

2.5.1 CURRENT WINDOW SIGS (US/CANADA) SPECIFICATION WINDOW STRIPE: LSI 7.25” W x 60” L STRIPE WITH LOGO; LSI 7.25” W x 84” L STRIPE WITHOUT LOGO WINDOW FROSTING: LSI 40.75” W x 72” L; LSI 59.5” W x 72” L

GUIDELINES All Stores

1. There will be no stripes or silver frosting on the doors.

2. The window stripes comes in two sizes: one with 7-Eleven logo (7.25”Wx60”L) and the

other without the logo (7.25”Wx84”L). The very first windows on either side of the door

will get the stripe with the logo. All of the remaining windows will get stripes without the

logo. This means that each store will get 2 stripes with logo and all the rest without the

logo.

3. If a storefront does not have a mullion (glass floor to ceiling with no break) the bottom of

the window stripe will be at 38" from the finished floor. If there is a mullion, generally

the top of the mullion is at 38” as well. So the window stripes will be applied right above

the mullion.

4. The window stripe will be on all windows whether they are on the front or side of the

store. It is especially important for side windows where there is no 7-Eleven building

Confidential

70

sign. The window stripes will not be applied on opaque glass. There will be no silver

frosting under the stripes except to hide equipment at the sales counter area

when desired.

5. If the sales counter area is raised compared to the sales floor, then the window stripe

will be at the same horizontal level as the window stripe for the sales area unless you

are trying to cover up an equipment against the window.

6. Generally, the stripe and frosting are applied at the interior of the glass. In areas where

the stripe cannot be applied to the interior, a special stripe has to be ordered that can be

applied to the exterior. This placement of the stripe will result in a shorter operational

life of the material as it will be subject to the elements.

7. The window stripe shown above will no longer be manufactured. Its use will end

when the current inventory runs out.

2.6.2 NEW ACCENT BAND TO REPLACE OLD RED STRIPE

Many old stores have red accent band as shown below. It is no longer our standard but we will

leave those in until the stores are re-modeled.

When stores are remodeled under a CMR program, new wall panels will be installed and the red stripe above will go away. However, when we are remodeling an acquired licensee store such as a Prima or Handee Mart, there is no money to install new wall panels. It is not practical to remove the red stripe and paint because of the residual glue. So in such limited circumstances, we would remove the red stripe and replace it with a 10” tall Tateyama stripe designed for this purpose (see the picture below).

3.4.2 Hurricane Sign Fixture

It is a variation of the Windmaster sign shown above that has longer spread out legs to

provide stability during hurricane conditions in many places in Canada. These are also taller

and as a result has a higher visibility from the street (28”L. It is acceptable to use when

needed.

It is also used for displaying diesel prices and is placed in the parking lot. The reason for

displaying diesel prices on these is because the Canadian gas price changers do not have
