    1 Introduction

    1.1 Purpose and Scope This document provides installation and operation instructions for a user of the application developed in WP8000 of the SIGNATURE project. The purpose of this work package is to investigate the potential for using EGNOS products on GPS-enabled mobile phones. This is achieved through the design and development of a novel application which integrates the products with data provided by a phone GPS chipset, and a test campaign in order to evaluate the associated positioning performance benefits. Details of the application and testing results are provided in

    3 User Manual

    3.1 Settings Clicking the Setting button allows the user to specify what configuration they would like. This configuration is saved after the clicking of the submit button.

    The IP address is the IP address of the SISNeT server or a service that has the same protocol.

    The port is the port number that is used alongside the IP address.

    The SISNeT username is the username required to log into the SISNeT Service.

    The password goes along with the username to log into the SISNeT Service.

    The checkbox allows/disallows the logging of NMEA Data. The checkbox allows/disallows the GPS positions displaying on

    the map

    3.2 Creating a new position If the start button is pressed a box containing a loading message will appear. The Start button is only able to be pressed if it is green. If the button is Red the program is yet to get a GPS fix or doesnt have an internet connection. Visual messages will tell you which of the services it is currently searching for. Behind the scenes the phone is using the received NMEA strings and EGNOS messages to modify the position that has been sent to it. Once this process is completed the Service will return a new set of NMEA data. A screen asking for details to be saved with the position is displayed. Once the submit button is pressed the position is saved to a file on the SD card along with the modified NMEA data. If the submit button is pressed without filling in all the data fields, default data is chosen for those fields.

    3.3 Swapping Map modes Clicking on the Map View button will swap the way in which the map is viewed. This can help with download speeds if the Satellite view is not selected. Be aware that the non satellite view cant zoom in as far as the satellite view.

    3.4 Viewing all positions in current file Until the savedPostion.txt file is renamed or moved, the application continues recording positions to this file. It is possible to see all the positions in the file by clicking the View All button. This will show all positions in the file. The last position created will be the focus of the map view.

    3.5 Stored files The files on the SD Card are stored in the EGNOSApp directory. This directory should contain a config.txt file, a savedPosition.txt and a folder called NMEA. This folder contains the recorded NMEA from the phone and the newly created egnosNMEA.

    Changing the name of the savedPosition.txt, moving or deleting it will mean the View All button will not show these positions. Changing the file name allows for a speed up of the view all option because displaying a lot of points can be a strain on the phone. The layout of the file is:

    ID,EPODOMIC lat, EPODOMIC long, GPS Lat, GPS Long, comment, type

    Example:

    CarPark1,52.934790,-1.164817,52.934795,-1.164819,3rd bay - deep,pothole

    If the config.txt is corrupt, deleting the file completely will allow you to change the configuration in the program. If you wish to edit the options via the .txt file the file must be set out exactly as follows: Ip:{ip}

    Port:{port}

    SisnetId:{SISNeT Username}

    Sisnetpass:{SISNeT password}

    Nmea:{If the NMEA is to be recorded}

    Example:

    Ip:131.176.49.142

    Port:7777

    3.6 Other controls

    The home button, denoted by a small house, allows the user to use other functions on the phone while the application continues to record GPS NMEA data. Leaving the NMEA recording like this will use a lot of battery life. The back button, denoted by a back arrow, allows the user to exit the application. Only the back button or the terminating of the program via the applications manager will disable the GPS. The Menu button is not used in this application.
