A piano technician trained by Yamaha, can install the Yamaha Silent Piano system into compatible acoustic Yamaha pianos.

With the Silent Piano system, the sound through the headphones is incredible. A sampling technology using state of the art binaural sampling, delivers a three-dimensional sound like nothing you have heard through headphones before - the illusion of sitting in front of a concert grand piano. The sound through headphones is so realistic, you may even have to remove your headphones to check that you really are practicing silently.

The Silent Piano™ system features a range of unique technologies you can take advantage of, including recording your playing on a USB, playing with different instrumental sounds and even MIDI capable to interact with apps.

First, a trained technician carefully installs a shank stopper to prevent the hammers from hitting the strings when Silent mode is engaged. Non-contact sensors are installed on each piano key, which detect the movement of your playing and translates that into sounds you can hear through your headphones.

Finally, sensors are also attached to the pedals to transmit their movement to the unit. The installation is now complete and you can enjoy all the features of a Yamaha Silent Piano while still maintaining the pure acoustic properties of your piano.

Once the Yamaha Silent Piano Retrofit is in place, you simply shift the middle pedal to the left, plug in your headphones and you’re ready to play silently!
