We are also excited to let you know that we are in the process of building the club Website and hope to have it on-line soon. Keep an eye on our Silver Blades Figure Skating Club Facebook page too, as we'll try to keep people informed on what's happing through that medium as well. This was my second Hollins Trophy, the division I skated was Primary Men. There were 4 in my division I was up against Sam Gillard (NSW) Adam Peterken (QLD) and John Sparksman (QLD).I have been training really hard all year for that competition , finding good music, getting a new costume to go with the music and getting a new program put together with the appropriate elements as well as having a step sequence and being able to tell a story with the music and program. The week before Hollins was a tapering week which means you don’t do any off ice, and don’t train your program as hard.

The day I skated I must say that I was very nervous as I was skating first and I had to try and calm myself down with slow breathing and just saying to myself Giuseppe at the end of the day it’s just you and the ice .

That is what I had to picture in my mind and I did just that.

I went out onto the ice and skated the best program I could do and it payed off I came first in my division .

My total segment score was 38.18 and I won by about 8 points ..

Every time I compete in any competition the experience is always different and I must say the adrenalin and rush you feel just before you skate is awesome .. I have to thank Richard Laidlaw my coach for being there for me and believing in me ...

Rundle Mall Ice Show

For the third year in a row SA Skating

Coach Richard Laidlaw brought his

portable ice skating rink back to

Australia and produced a show

featuring many SA Figure skaters. The

show was a great opportunity for SA

skaters to gain performance

experience in a professional

production alongside seasoned

professionals.

Grace Mullins & Richard Laidlaw in spectacular costumes.

Coffs Harbor Ice Show

Fantastique on Ice toured to

the Big Banana Ice rink in Coffs

Harbour for the July school

holidays. Show producer

Richard Laidlaw used many SA

Figure Skaters in this production

of the show which has toured

to Singapore, Hong Kong and

Australia. Richard a former

show skater loves giving

competitive skaters the

opportunity to tour with shows

to foreign countries whilst still

competing, something he

couldn’t do back when he

competed.

Oceania Camp Boondall Rink

Brisbane QLD July 2012

by James Min

On the 9th-13th of July, 2012 I attended the 4th Oceania Camp. It was held in Brisbane at Boondall ice

skating rink with Olympic Skating coach Manon Perron who took Joannie Rochette to Bronze at

It was a privilege to be selected to attend the camp along with four other South Australians. Countries

that participated in the camp this year were from Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.

The first day of the camp was very interesting and challenging. We did a lot of drills and exercises to test

our core strength and flexibility. The next few days my muscles were aching. I could hardly move in the

morning.

By attending the camp I have gained a lot of knowledge about how to be a better skater. I also learnt a lot

of edge patterns to improve my skating skills. The camp has motivated me to train harder. I as well made

a lot of new friends with other skaters. I really enjoyed the camp and hope to do it again next year.
