Fall has almost arrived in Western NY and with it comes change and lots of color. Your senior center is always colorful and full of new looks. Check out the new programs and try something that you haven't tried before, or sign up for something you haven't done for years, but you have always loved. Between now and the end of the year new Directors for the Center’s Board will be recommended to the Town for appointment. If you are interested in serving on the Center’s Board, pick up an application from the office, fill it out and turn it back in. The Nominating Committee of the Center’s Board will review all applications and recommend to the Center’s Board candidates that the Committee feels will best serve the Center's mission. The Center’s Board will then approve or modify the recommendation and submit the candidates to the Town for appointment. Bill Westley Board Chair

Dear Friends, Recently, I received notice from Hazel Ellis that she and Dick would be “retiring” as volunteer trip leaders for the CSC Travelers. I want to take this opportunity to thank them for all of the work they have done over the years in facilitating our trips. They were helpful, enthusiastic travelers who did so much to make our trips successful. However, I don’t want you to think that CSC traveling will stop. We’re going to build on what we have and offer some exciting new adventures in 2016! More information will follow in future newsletters. Do be sure to look at the pink insert in this newsletter. There are so many opportunities to try something new at the Center….for FREE. There is no better time than now! Speaking of something new...there is a dart board in the pool room that was installed not long ago. If you’d be interested in starting up competitions, let us know in the office. Have a great month,

Karla

“Twelve Years A Slave” The program is based on the book by Solomon Northup

Monday, September 14th

1:30 p.m.

Solomon Northup was a free Black man from New York

State who was drugged, beaten and sold into slavery in

1841. He spent the next 12 years of his life in captivity on

deep South Louisiana plantations. He was 30 years old,

and he did not see his wife and three children until he was

rescued 12 years later. He wrote a vivid account of his

abduction and life as a slave, which was published in

1853. After the Civil War, “Twelve Years a Slave” fell

into obscurity and Solomon Northup was forgotten.

The story became known again when it was made into

a powerful film that won the Academy Award as Best

Picture. This program will share and comment on

Solomon Northup’s powerful and affecting story.

Please sign up in the office.

AARP FOUNDATION TAX-AIDE PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR UPCOMING TAX SEASON

The AARP Foundation Tax Aide Program, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking

volunteers for its Clarence program which helps taxpayers who need assistance preparing and filing their 2015 tax returns. The

Clarence Tax Aide program operates out of the Clarence Senior Center and the Clarence Public Library and last year assisted over

1500 taxpayers. Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to participate. All ages are welcome to serve as tax

preparers or to have their Federal and New York state taxes done free of charge.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related

expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around Western New York, learning new skills while giving back to their communities.

Last year, more than one-hundred Tax-Aide volunteers helped thousands of filers in Western New York. They join the more than 35,000 volunteers across the country, helping millions of taxpayers each year.

For more information (and to register as a potential Tax Aide) call Sandy at 716-759-6345

or Tom at 716-689-6118 by October 23. Training begins in November.
