Tonight the Silver Economy takes its show to the GRAND REX!

All the French actors and the numerous international representatives of the Silver Economy are gathered here tonight in the biggest cinema in Europe for a gala evening dedicated to Ageing Well.

2018 is the year of the 10th edition of the SilverEco Awards and SilverNight. In 10 years we have all participated considerably to the perception of the ageing population. To change one’s own views on ageing as an individual, is not the least of the challenges involved.

This event spotlights the best solutions dedicated to Ageing Well. I am particularly happy to welcome the International Awards. These awards will be given each year in a new country in order to better discover and share new approaches worldwide.

I would like to warmly thank the numerous members of the jury, each and every one of them is an international expert in the Silver Economy. They had the heavy responsibility of studying and voting for each of the nominees and electing tonight’s prize-winners of the SilverEco and Ageing Well International Awards 2018. The votes from the Internet were added to those of the jury.

My sincere thanks also goes to all the partners of SilverNight without whom such an event could not exist, to the entire team of ON-MEDIO and to the numerous people who contributed to the realization of these awards.

Alexei SIDNEV runs Senior Group, the leading provider for geriatric rehabilitation, long term care home care in Russia since 2007. The newest LTC and Rehabilitation facility Malakhovka opened in 2017 in Moscow. Another facility, Zhukovka, is scheduled to open this summer. Senior Group is a part of European Medical Centre Group of Companies, one of the top healthcare providers in Russia. Alexei also runs Senior Generation’s World, Russian senior care industry association and is considered the leading expert in the field of LTC in Russia. Prior to establishing Senior Group Alexei worked at Booz

& Co (now Strategy& at PwC), a global strategy consultancy in their London office.

DALIUS BITAITIS

Dalius BITAITIS has been working in the social services policy for over 20 years. From 2010 to 2012, he was the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Social Security and Labor of the Republic of Lithuania. During this time he was writing a dissertation at the University of Mykolas Romeris in Vilnius. His main job is the director of a long-term social services office. Since 2005 he is the Vice President of “Rūpestinga globa” the association of senior executives of the elderly and disabled people of Lithuania.

ALFONSO CRUZ LENDINEZ

Alfonso CRUZ LENDINEZ is Professor of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Jaén in the Degree of Nursing and in three Official Masters. He was visiting Professor at the University of Extremadura, University of Sassari (Italy), IPG de Guarda (Portugal), University of Pardubice (Czech Republic), University of Lublin (Poland) and University of Tifariti (Saharawi Republic). He was Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (2012-2015) and is currently Vice-Chancellor of Teaching and Academic Planning of the University of Jaén. Vice-president

of the Welfare and Social Policies Committee of the Economic and Social Council of the province of Jaén. Research member of the Sociopolitical Studies Section of the Institute of Jienneses Studies. He is a member of scientific and organising committees, and president of more than 20 congress’ and conferences, 11 times moderator of round tables, and communications, director of a symposium and 10 times jury member of research competitions.

MARZENA RUDNICKA

Marzena RUDNICKA is the founder and president of the National Institute of Silver Economy, which integrates commercial entities, non-governmental organizations operating in the area of services for the elderly and representatives of local governments and government in the area of the silver economy. She is the author of innovative solutions in Silver economy, including the certification system for goods and services for the elderly – “OK SENIOR. Member of the Council of the Civic Senior Citizens’ Parliament and Expert cooperating with the Committee of Demographic Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2017, member of the program board of the Polish

Nestor and Successor Club. Marzena Rudnicka is also an entrepreneur, the owner of Rudnicka & Consulting and the vice-president of URBI of the Construction and Investment Market Union, as well as an Expert at Adam Smith Center in the field of construction and investment.

JORGE FELIX

Jorge FELIX has a Ph.D in Social Sciencies and MSc in Political Economy, he is a population ageing reseacher and visiting professor of Gerontechnology at Sao Paulo University. He was the first Brazilian to publish academic articles on silver economy (2007). On the subject he wrote the book “Viver Muito” (2010, Ed Leya) and created, in 2011, the think tank Longevity Economy with the aim of stimulating this industrial sector. He writes about this in several Brazilian newspapers and magazines.

ALAIN LEGROS

Alain LEGROS, founded in 2010, Balder SPRL which relies on its general manager’s solid experience Mr. Alain Legros, who has been the general manager of Lennox Residence (home for residents with severe disabilities) for 20 years and has been leading two foundations for disabled people. In 2017, a solution of light therapy for seniors was designed with the collaboration of Liege University and GDtech. At the same time, the company became the exclusive distributor for DomoSafety SA in Benelux and focused on its international development. Balder is currently advising the French group

Aegide/Domitys in Belgium and Switzerland. He is also actively working on the profit/nonprofit articulation in the Benelux and French-speaking countries for healthcare protocols as well as on the project of home care /seniors at home. Balder is building a network of silver economy companies in Benelux and sustains special relationships with French-speaking Switzerland.

BRADLEY SCHURMAN

Bradley SCHURMAN is Director for Global Partnerships and Strategic Engagements at AARP. Among other major accomplishments and roles, Schurman was instrumental in securing the topics of population ageing and demographic change as central focus areas at both the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and World Economic Forum (WEF). He has developed original research with the OECD and Foreign Policy Group, led AARP’s global efforts on workplace design and age management, and directed AARP Best Employers International. He is a vocal champion

for extending working lives to help drive national economic success and social inclusion, and as a way to extend healthy living and healthy years.

MARIA LAVONEN

CEO, Maria LAVONEN, holds an M.Sc. in Technical Physics and an M.Sc. in International Business Management from Helsinki University of Technology (1997). Ms Lavonen is an experienced leader in the global healthcare business with a proven track record introducing new innovative solutions helping better care. In her career Ms Maria Lavonen has been working for international healthcare companies like GE Healthcare and PaloDEX Group Ltd which is part of Danaher Group.

CHRISTINA DOS SANTOS

Christina DOS SANTOS is the founder and CEO of Kapvision. Its mission is to take care of the elderly, providing ageing well at home and also for people with sensitive pathologies, children or adults. The priority of KapVision Portugal is to allow the elderly to live independently at home with the possibility of continuing to participate in activities while having multiple services at their disposal. These services are provided on a temporary or permanent basis, according to the needs of each. KapVision also operates in France, in order to contribute to ageing well and living well at home.

HIRO MURATA

Hiro Murata is the pioneer of active ageing business in Japan and an internationally recognized leader on ageing societies. He has worked with over 900 companies and contributed to develop various innovative products and services such as Curves Japan, the world’s largest fitness chain for women in Japan and various leading-edge retirement housings. He serves as Professor at Smart Ageing Research Center (SARC) at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. He is an entrepreneur, business producer, gerontologist and best-selling author of several books, including The Business of Ageing: 10 Successful

Strategies for a Diverse Market and Seven Paradigm Shifts in Thinking about the Business of Ageing, Retirement Moratorium: What Will the Not-Retired Boomers Change? They have been described as «must read books» by more than 30 leading publications including Nikkei, Nikkei Business, Yomiuri, and Japan Industry News.

ALAIN FRANCO

Alain FRANCO worked as professor emeritus of Internal medicine and Geriatrics, a teacher of geriatrics, gerontology and gerontechnology at Nice-Sophia Antipolis University Hospital, France from 2009 to 2014. He served as the President of the new French National Agency for Health, Autonomy and Technology in the Community based in Nice, which later became France Silvereco. He chaired the International Society for Gerontechnology, ISG, based in the Netherlands, and organized and chaired the Xth World Conference for Gerontechnology, Nice. He is the former Secretary General and

Vice-President of the IAGG, International Association for Gerontology and Geriatrics, and is in charge of its representation as Head of Delegation at the United Nations (Geneva), since 2009. At the European level Alain FRANCO is member since 2008 of the AAL Association’s Advisory Board. He received the French National Order of the Legion of Honor in 2007.

PIRET HIRV

Piet HIRV is currently working as a Health Technology Division Manager at the Science Park Tehnopol. Tehnopol works with various international health technology networks, which allows companies to find suitable development partners and customers, by developing healthcare services through the implementation of connected health solutions. Until 2017 she has worked as an advisor for E-services and Innovation at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia supporting the digital transformation and innovation of social security area, including health, labor and social matters. Piet HIRV has also

developed and implemented Estonian EU Presidency eHealth policy program and has acted as liaison officer for international organizations and networks coordinating cross-border healthcare-service activities.

JURY 2018MARCO CARULLI

He is Program Operations Manager at the Central Management Unit of the AAL (Active and Assisted Living) Program, where he is responsible for the call management (preparation, publication and evaluation) as well as projects monitoring. Marco CARULLI is also responsible for the implementation of the main Support Actions implemented by programs such as AAL2Business, the Market Observatory and the AAL Challenge Prize. Before joining the AAL Program, he worked in the field of Research and Innovation-related project coordination and platform management.

In the past Marco CARULLI has been supporting the coordination of the Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform, the European Sustainable Nuclear Industry Initiative and the EERA, European Energy Technology Alliance. He has a Master of Arts in Advanced European Studies obtained at the College of Europe and a degree in Diplomatic and International Studies.

PETER VARNAI

Having a wide-ranging interest in linking innovative science and technology to policy and business applications, Peter VARNAI has led evaluations and strategic studies of national and EU policies and programs focusing on the scientific, economic, and societal impacts arising as a result of these interventions. He trained originally as a chemical engineer and obtained MSc(Eng) degree from Budapest University of Technology and Economics as well as a DPhil degree from the University of Oxford and an MBA from Imperial College Business School. Prior to joining Technopolis Group, Peter VARNAI

was an academic researcher at the University of Cambridge, University of Sussex and at the CNRS in France. He is currently pursuing studies into the silver economy and healthy ageing, as he believes that there are many opportunities across public and private sectors where new technologies and services can transform older people’s lives.

ENRICO OGGIONI

Enrico OGGIONI is co-founder and President of Osservatorio Senior, a non-profit organization that is devoted to study of seniors worldwide and to propose articles of interest for the over-60 population, using a strong network of experts from universities, media, associations and consulting companies. Over the last ten years, Enrico OGGIONI has studied and developed the themes of seniors, baby boomers and ageing, conducting research in cooperation with important Italian universities (Università Cattolica, Università Bocconi) and through many publications and conferences. In 2012

he wrote the book I ragazzi di sessant’anni (Les garçons de 60 ans), published by Mondadori. In 1995 he created his own consulting company as president with 40 consultants until 2008 when he decided to explore a “new life” and different activities.

JAMES WANG

James WANG is Senior Vice President of Beijing Ehualu Information Technology Co. Ltd. and CEO of Hualu Senior Care and Health Co. Ltd. His strong management team composed of talents from global senior care institutions, central government, global leading consulting firm and leading financial services institutions. Hualu Senior Care and Health has launched more than 20 projects/communities in more than 15 cities in China. A PPP project in Shandong province has been selected as role model by the Ministry of Finance in 2016. Hualu Senior Care and Health is also Member of PFCGA

(French-Chinese partnership in the service of Advanced Age). In addition to the senior care industry, he has led or participated in dozens of business strategy and transformation consulting projects for large Chinese state-owned groups, listed companies, Financial Groups, banks, insurance companies, PEs, and has deep understanding of business transformation.

ACTIV84HEALTHMemoride allows users to freely explore the outside world from within the safety and comfort of an indoor environment. Our users are free to bike through known locations or explore new and exciting ones in full autonomy. Because the user can create his/her own personalized experience, they can go and look for those unique places that have an emotional value for them. Memoride is about much more than physical activity, it is also about reminiscence, sharing stories and emotions and stimulating social interaction.

ACTIVE INITATIVE GO SILVERHousing for the elderly in Middle-East Europe is a pioneer subject. Poland is now the quickest ageing country in the world. Our Foundation has investigated the housing realities of 150 senior citizens. What do their lives look like in the post-communist blocks of flats, what are the biggest challenges? We have verified that.

BOCHACZ.COMAn unconscious senior will not press the SOS button and therefore will not call for help. An artificial intelligence module based on discretely collected data, constructs a model of the behavior of patients. SilverCRS detects dangerous behaviors and automatically notifies caregivers. SilverCRS includes the following behavioral profiles for: over-active patients, recumbent patients, and patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia, etc.

BOLTON CLARKEThis application describes a Co-design Model titled, ‘Partnering with Consumers for Diversity’ developed by Bolton Clarke, an international not-for-profit aged care service provider. The Co-design Model is a recipient of a 2017 Australian Government Better Practice Award which recognizes innovation across aged care services. A Digital Talking Book concept is presented in this application as a case study to illustrate how the Co-design Model is used in practice to inform product development. The Model has been used repeatedly and consistently to inform the development of a suite of Digital Talking Books on diabetes, dementia and medicines in English and a range of other languages. The Digital Talking Books are available, free of charge on the Bolton Clarke website. The Co-design Model presents business processes for the development of all types of culturally and linguistically appropriate aged care policies and products.

CITY OF PORIThe rehabilitation hospital of the city of Pori renewed their care processes with the help of health information. With Care watch, both the discharged patients in home care and the patients in the ward are now under continuous monitoring for 24/7. Real-time wellbeing information was used to demolish all the thresholds in the care process with aiming to create a “hospital without walls”. As a result, the duration of rehabilitation periods got shortened, the quality of home care is better, and the city has achieved significant cost savings. Care Watches were deployed at the rehabilitation hospital of Pori as the nurse call system. Care watches measure both the awake-sleep pattern as well as the activity and physical functioning of the patient. Smart care solution monitors watch users sleep, activity and circadian rhythm and provides real-time wellbeing information for medical professionals to follow-up rehabilitation and the effectiveness of care.

COGVIS Fearless is the intelligent, contactless fall sensor that not only detects falls, but also helps to prevent them. Our system detects when a person gets up and then automatically switches on the lights or alerts a career. This means that Fearless is far superior to conventional solutions, such as safety mats, in terms of functionality and range as well as early alarming. Fearless has the size of a 1-litre bottle and is as simple to mount as a lamp. No more wristwatch, no mat on the floor.

CURA FAMILY SERVICES The CURA Administrative Support Tool helps the senior & his entourage (pro/personal) follow and be guided in the daily administrative tasks. This paperwork relief gives the entourage more quality care time to focus on the senior.

DESIGN RESEARCH CONSULTINGAt home despite the age (www.mimowieku.pl) is an initiative focused on presenting complete solution for an age friendly dwelling type, feasible under current socio-economic conditions in Poland. Designed with such paradigms in mind as active ageing and ageing in place the apartment enables longer independent living despite handicaps which may arise with the advancing age.

ECUPHARMARecent epidemiological studies seem to show a decline that needs to be confirmed in the future (Larson et al., 2013). The number of cases is expected to approach a million people per year by 2050 (Alzheimer’s Association, 2009). AD and cognitive decline impacts dramatically on everyday life of older adults, being one of the main causes of disability in the old age. Our pharmaceutical company, due to an absence of a cure against dementia and AD, has focused on prevention of the cognitive decline. From this need arises the idea of our product, COGITON, which is a mix of elements that synergistically could counteract oxidative stress. The website is built with the most advanced development technologies as artificial intelligence, to provide the best user experience with a high level of clustering and customization.

PHARMA EXPRESSPharma Express is a service provider for pharmacies who wish to deliver to those who are isolated, who cannot move and / or those who are in need of prompt medication. Our service is available 23/7.

TOWN OF NEW GLASGOWThe Town of New Glasgow began looking at the ageing population needs as part of the Town’s Community Economic Development public planning sessions in 2010. The Town, along with the Municipality of the County of Pictou started a pilot project for an Age Friendly Initiative with the Department of Seniors, Province of Nova Scotia. This would be a model for other communities in Nova Scotia. The vision established for the Age Friendly Community Plan is “that the age friendly community plan be inclusive, supportive and promote accessibility”.
