• Composed of a single converging lens
• Used to see a larger image of an object for the eye to see.
The Human Eye
• Has a variable focal length
• Muscles in the Eye can relax for viewing from a distance or tighten for close-up viewing
• 25 cm – closest distance at which the eye can focus without much strain
Angular Magnification
• “the ratio of the angle subtended by the image when using the magnifier to the angle subtended by the object when viewed from 25 cm by the “unaided eye”
• M=θ/θ0
Example: Magnifying Glass
• Convex lens used to produce a magnified image of an object
