Civil Services Main Examination New Pattern

The written Examination consists of the following papers:

Paper I: One of the Indian Language- 300 marks –Qualifying Nature-Marks not counted- Passing MandatoryPaper II: English -300 marks- Qualifying Nature-Marks not counted- Passing Mandatory Paper III Essay 250 marks – To be written in the language of the candidate’s choicePaper IV -General Studies -250 Marks – Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the world and society Paper V- General Studies -250 Marks – Governance, constitution, polity, social justice and international relations.Paper VI - General Studies -250 Marks –Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, security and Disaster management.Paper VII - General Studies -250 Marks – Ethics, Integrity and AptitudePaper VIII and IX –Optional Subject-250 +250 MarksSub Total-written test - (2350-600)=1750Interview/Personality test = 275 MarksGrand Total = 2025 Marks Note: •Candidate may take Sindhi Literature as one of the optional subjects.•Candidates may write answers of question papers from I- IX in English or • any one language included in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.



Paper-1+2COMPULSORY SUBJECTS: ENGLISH AND INDIAN LANGUAGUESThe aim of the paper is to test the candidate's ability to read and understandserious discursive prose, and to express his ideas clearly and correctly in English/Indian language concerned.The pattern of questions would be broadly as follows :-(i) Comprehension of given passages.(ii) Precise Writing(iii) Usage and Vocabulary(iv) Short Essay

Note 1 : The Papers on Indian Languages and English will be of Matriculation or equivalent standard and will be of qualifying nature only. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for ranking.

Note 2 : The candidates will have to answer the English and Indian Languages papers in English and the respective Indian language (except where translation is involved).



Paper-3 – Essay – 250 Marks To be written in the language of the candidate’s choice

• Candidates will be required to write an essay on a specific topic. The choice of subjects will be given.

Sindhi literature through the ages in context of socio-cultural conditions in the respective periods :

a. Early medieval literature upto 1350 A.D. including folk literature.

b. Late medieval period from 1350 A.D. to 1850 A.D.c. Renaissance period from 1850 A.D. to 1947 A.D.d. Modern period from 1947 and onwards.
