Professionalism & Rehearsal Expectations

A role or a crew position is a privilege NOT a right. This means that any role or crew position is expendable.

Actors and crew that do not respect deadlines, are overly late, do not get along with others, or show a general disrespect for the process will be replaced (see production contract).

Work hard to keep your role and position! Treat it like a job!

Rehearsal Norms

Bring water bottles with your name clearly labled

Bring a pencil to make notes in your script (NO PENS OR HIGHLIGHTERS)

Wear clothes that do not restrict movement.

Do NOT distract the director or actors on stage—actors may be sent home for interrupting rehearsal.

REHEARSALS ARE CLOSED: No friends, parents, or anyone is allowed to be in the rehearsal space without permission from the director.

Keep track of belongings and do not bring valuables—Mr. Gehrlein can lock things up for you, or just use your school locker!

Rehearsal Norms Continued

When you are not on stage you can be working on homework!

At no point are you allowed to leave school or leave the rehearsal space. Restrooms in the boys and girls dressing room are for you! Do not leave the space unless you are dismissed by the director.

At 2:45 we will begin. This means you need to check in with the Stage Manager BEFORE 2:45 and do not leave once you are checked in. Attendance is taken daily. Actors who show a habit of tardiness or absences will be removed from the show.

Mondays-Thursdays: Report to the Vocal Music Room (unless you are not called that day) Review all days in which you are called. If you are unsure, check with Stage Management.

Rehearsal Norms Continued

Prompt rehearsals are EXTREMELY important. Work must be done outside rehearsal to memorize lines, lyrics, and choreography.

During Prompt rehearsals no scripts are allowed on stage. Actors will be given line notes after each rehearsal. Actors who fail to memorize lines on time may be replaced.

You get to decide the quality of our show! The work you put in will be seen. When you don’t work…it shows.

Takes place in 1927 Hollywood, California when film studios were making a transition to movies with sound.

What is the story we are telling? What expectations do our audience already bring to this story?
