His daughter finally insisted he should go to the hospital. He continued to post things on the internet to encourage his brethren. Jack’s last post was simple, but powerful. “To all of my friends, I love you and have spent a lifetime trying to share Christ and his love, his compassion and his message of salvation. I’m possibly going to have to go on a ventilator for Covid. I’m going to come off of it in a few days either physically healed or spiritually healed. In either case I win. Love you all.” Jack died just a few days later. However, his post still lives in my mind. It challenges me to ask myself if I could write something similar. Every Christian should be able to say death results in victory “through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:50-57). Those who have followed the gospel pattern by being buried with the Lord, have been freed from sin and born again to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3-4, 16-18). God’s faithful children have assurance of life eternal (1 John 5:13). That assurance is ever present for those who continually walk in the light because the blood of Jesus continually cleanses them (1 John 1:7). Jesus told the persecuted church at Smyrna, “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death” (Revelation 2:10b-11). Let us all live so that we can join Jack in saying, “In either case I win.” Gary C. Hampton

News and Events

There are not many things worse than a pretty day to go fishing, but catching no fish. With this recent ice storm, 65 degrees and a beamingsun is a blessing! My relatives have a saying that can persuade me to dropwhat I am doing and go see for myself. “I can feeling them tugging now”!Some times it starts slow, but gradually gets better with the warming sun.Other times, I would have rather just stayed sitting on the couch becausenothing is taking the bait.

If I had a penny for every time I heard the phrase, “Patience, son.”I would most likely be somewhere else than my office. Most of the time itwas from my parents replying to me asking whether supper was ready toeat. I was on their time, and could not stand it because I was hungry!Seems like we are on other folks’ time more often than we are on our owntime. “Too much to do, and not enough time to get it done,” is anotherphrase I grew up with. Maybe you did too. We all like to be in control, especially in control of our time.

Scripture gives the idea of waiting too. In Isaiah 40:31 we read“but they that wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shallmount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; theyshall walk and not faint.” The song that uses this verse is very powerful inmy opinion. We are taught where to wait; on our knees. We are taughthow to wait; in prayer. We are taught why to wait; an answer is comingfrom God. I do not like waiting on things, therefore, you can say I amrather impatient, but trials and temptations have brought me down to myknees plenty of times. Being taught to wait strengthens us, gives usboldness, endurance, and furthers our dependance upon God. Therefore, let us hurry up....and wait on God.

As we continue our efforts to reach Just One More there is one word weneed to keep in our minds: contacts. But what exactly are contacts? Contactscan be our friends, family members, coworkers, or classmates. They can beclose friends, acquaintances, and even people we meet just one time. Theycan be waiters or waitresses at restaurants or cashiers at the grocery store.Contacts can be any and everyone we come in contact with. That includespeople we meet face to face and people we interact with only online. Whatreally makes someone a contact is partially defined by our effort to reach outto them. Did we invite them to services, ask them to have a Bible study, givethem a track, serve in some kind of way, or hand them some information onthe local church? Did we use the opportunity we had to represent Christ? Ifwe did any of those things then we have made a contact. Each week in ourBible classes we are trying to keep up with how many contacts and Biblestudies we have made or conducted for that week. As we go throughout theweek let's keep that word "contacts" in our minds, and look for ways tooontinually reach Just One More.
