Over the next 9 weeks we will focus on the person and work of Jesus Christ as revealed to us in the Gospels, asking the question: “Why does the mysterious teacher from Nazareth still call and compel us to follow him after 2,000 years?” In the process, hopefully we will come to know more fully this One whom we follow as Lord, and what that means for our lives. Today we look at Jesus the "Party Person." In the words of Willimon: "Jesus was a wandering rabbi who did some of his best teaching amid the festivity of the dinner table." It didn't matter - religious leader or sinner - Jesus welcomed the opportunity to eat with, to party with, them all, and in so doing gave us an image of the promised party when all of creation will share in the Feast of Victory! HOLY COMMUNION: All the baptized are welcome at God’s table. We will be communing at four stations – the ushers will direct you. As you come to the table, if you want to receive the wine pick up an empty cup. If you prefer grape juice, pick up one of the pre-filled cups. Upon receiving the bread, move to receive the wine… then place your empty cups in the baskets provided. Gluten-free wafers are available—go to one of the pastors, simply raise your index finger to indicate a gluten-free wafer is desired the server will extend the plate to you to take from the dish. Those not communing are encouraged to come forward for a blessing.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

In your time on earth, you made it clear that all are welcome at your table, that all are invited to the party, that all have a place in the embrace of your love. Help us to celebrate your love and grace this day, to live each day of our

lives with the joy that only you can give, and to look forward with anticipation to that promised feast to come when your dream becomes a reality! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Summer Preaching Series “Why Jesus?” is the theme of our summer preaching series. If you’d like to go deeper in the book WHY JESUS? by William H. Willimon, it is available on Kindle and Amazon or you can order through the office for $13. We need assistance with setting up the route, registration, passing out race packets, standing at assigned intersections to direct runner/walkers, distribute water and cheer on participants. If you can help, please contact Jennifer at [email protected].
